Hi all,

I am curious about what is the main inspiration behind the game?
Personnaly I like that game because it looks very similar to my favorite pen and paper RPG : Mutant Chronicles. Same character design (big armors, bug guns), same enemy design (mutant creatures), same type of weapons (chainriper), dark universe, etc.. I am wondering if someone at Epic know Mutant Chronicles?

Arcane created a post earlier which kind of lead to this discussion.

I definitely see the similarities, I've not read the book but I know of its importance.

Gears pays homage to a number of great classics, but also adds a whole lot of other $hit to mix.

Chainsaw Bayonet, that’s got to be the first I’ve come across, props to Cliffy.

My mind is trying to tell me that I have seen a Chainsaw Bayonet before... come to think of it the look of GoW COG's remind me of Space Marines from Warhammer.

The armour has that same meatiness about it.

I think this was the Chainsaw I was thinkin of, not a Bayonet after all.

Still looks like fun though.:D

It can't touch the Lancer.

Just in case you missed it.

theres a book i got an extract from called something like : xbox 360 unveiled
(not an exact name i think) by Dean Takahashi and it has some stuff about the early ideas of gears (ha, it rhymes!) but it doesnt really have too much detail to it. but it really is a brilliant read with some interesting stuff like it says somewhere that cliffy b was considering leaving EPIc but they let him be project lead on Unreal Warfare (later named gears of war) obviously i cannot 100% these kind of details as only the man cliffy himself knows the truth (or lack thereof) behind this... but theres some stuff

Am I the only one who thinks space marines from Warhammer 40k when I look at the COG forces. I think that could have been the inspiration for the armor and weaponry atleast. There was a thread somewhere that mentioned a comic that was bought by epic that lead to the game. But my own personal theory behind their inspiration is my man Cliffy B. was visited by jesus and roofus (the 13th apostle) and they bestowed the responsiblity of making the greatest game ever onto him. So he sat down and said "ok any feature that every gamer would love to see in a game plus a chainsaw, and incredible detail plus graphic violence... Ok I got it" And the rest is history.

Or something like that, I could be wrong. It's happened before :)
