Default Demo - Three UDK Archviz Projects

    Hello,

I've been working lately on some projects (converting some 3ds max scenes to UDK) and I finally reached a "release candidate" for each scene. I wanted to show them here first though to get some feedback.

I intend to start an archviz business specialized on realtime rendering with UDK. I've also built a website (still under construction as well), which you can visit at: www.afterimagestudios.com.br (also available in English).

Anyway, here we go with the videos!

    Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

These look really great! I'm very impressed with the glass, especially the wine glasses. The way you did the refraction is very realistic.

All of them are DX9. I wanted to use DX11 for some Image-based reflections and bokeh DOF but there's still the SceneCaptureCubeMap bug on DX11 (only captures one side of the cubemap). =/

The glass refraction is pretty simple actually: just a Fresnel multiplied by -5, plugged into Distortion.

    Thanks for the feedback.

Do you have an estimation on how many hours went into each of these projects?

Hmm, that's hard to tell because initially I was very concerned about the high poly count on the original meshes, and was reducing them by hand mostly. But when I realized the UDK could handle high poly counts with ease, I started to just apply a ProOptimizer modifier (generally with a high quality setting) and was done with it.

Having the meshes imported (I'd say each takes about 5 minutes to prepare, export, import into UDK, and assign materials), it's fairly quick to build the map. There is a lot of work on finishing and lighting however. Also building the background and kismet stuff (lights turn on/off for example). Hmm maybe some 30 hours on the appartment scene (excluding assets), 30h on the beach house and 40h on the club house. Hard to tell really. Much time is spent in 3ds max, GIMP for the textures (most of them are from cgtextures.com), and creating materials.

I've uploaded a demo of the apartment scene, for anyone that want to try it. Download it from http://www.afterimagestudios.com.br/demo_en.php

My anti-virus is freaking out when I try to install the file. Has anyone else tried it?

Well, it's just the installer made by UDK Frontend, no custom exe's or anything. Try disabling it?

    Ok cool, I ran it.

That was seriously impressive. I really like the color picker, and was surprised at the level of customization. Well done.

I didn't read all of the replies so if this is mentioned already my apologies.

First off they look great. Your materials are especially well made. Lighting is very realistic as well.

I might only suggest that the fireplace in the clubhouse doesn't appear to have any light generation.
Additionally, some of the models seem to be lacking beveled edges. They have that razor sharp cgi look to them. Like the armoires (SP?) and the desk in the second video.

Otherwise I think you've shown what can be done very well.

    Hello

I discovered your work on the architecture is absolutely brilliant, I think a lot of modeling work on 3dsmax.
    Congratulations.
