    Default My character and his "chemical suit"



    This is my first character for UDK and his Hazmat suit thing.
    Been modeling this for a while an hour here and there in 3d max and textured with spotlight in zbrush, and finally tweaked an fixed textures and here is the result so far.
    This just has a meshsmooth on for the render. but the wireframe is the low poly, I wanted to keep this down so it can be torn in parts with cloth in UDK. Im guessing cloth in udk doesnt have LOD's?
    I've used CrazyBump for the final textures.
    Have never done anything to do with characters, or animations, or anim tree etc.
    So its going to be quite a test.
    But you cant have a human story without humans in it can you?
    Will post more on this first post when I get the chance.

    Looks great Matey! Always a pleasure to see work by fellow Australians. We have amazing talent but a struggling industry.

    I've been through the UDK character process a few times including FaceFx, and can help you out if you encounter any problems.

    I have to ask, are you a student/developer/indie designer?

    Hey thanks for viewing. Yeah theres not much of an industry of 3d stuff in Australia sadly.
    Thanks for the offer to help with any problems I have added you on youtube. =)
    Ha! I wish I was one of those things.. Im nothing but a fork lift driver in Perth. =(
    I do all this stuff in my spare time. =)
    But I am hoping to get into Vancouver Film school around 2014 and get more into the 3d related field games, movie and whatnot. =)

    Looks very good, keep up the good work, its good for a weekends work, i would love to see this in game, with animations. Besides that, i think that the smoothness of the model looks reall professional, and it is great, well done!

    I'm pretty sure that the map you've got him in and the character would be a serious contender for the "make some something Unreal" competition

    hey all thanks for the comments. heres a quick preview of the guy in his scene. Finished the materials / shaders for his suit last night. Now back to the character and rigging him up. =)

    Just an update of the finished guy and his suit and etc.
    Fixed up that hole you mentioned. It was an unwelded vertex.
    Got a good friend of mine helping to rig it up for me soon. So cant wait..!! =)






    Next upload will hopefully be one of him rigged and animated. =)

    I think you need a higher specular power on the helmet window, there is barely any gloss and you can't really see it.

    Ive decreased the transparency on the helmets visor. I set it low while I was tweaking.
    The face does have normals but the dynamic lighting in the standard udk levels seem to washout most of the texture work.

    Quick Video update of hair shader in action. The hair is one piece for now but I'm curious how to go about making it move slightly depending on the movements of the player and env wind etc.
    Just testing out my hairdo with tessellation in udk. I made this material viewing a few hair shader ideas for udk and just tweaked it here and there and came up with this.
    Its not a translucent texture.
    Also showed my 3dmax character scene with FPS camera setup and ready to be rigged up then animated.

    My character ingame walking and doing other animations, Special thanks to Lexluthor1 lending a hand at rigging him. And posting numerous amount of videos that helped me along the way with custom character content, animations, rigging, skinning, etc etc. This is my first character animation. =)
