Good day fellow forumers, and welcome to a thread of sharing weapon skin designs. I've been making my own for a few months, and I thought it was time to share the templates I have constructed with the rest of the community. I know I sometimes struggle to flesh out some of your fantastic ideas over in my own thread, and the template is relatively straightforward, easy to use and versatile, so now you can create the design that you'd always envisioned.

The templates themselves are PSD files, so unfortunately, you'll need to have PhotoShop (or GIMP I believe) in order to use them, but as long as you can fulfil that requirement, you should be more than good to go.

I'm going to dedicate the second post of the thread to all the community generated content, so don't be shy! Get cracking, see what you can come up with, and I'm sure we'd all love to see the results.

It is worth mentioning that in order to make the skins you create 'available' to post in the thread, you will have to upload it to an image hosting website such as PhotoBucket, TinyPic or ImageShack. Once you have uploaded your PNG image (make sure you save the skin as a PNG to preserve transparency), simply right click on the image and 'Copy Image URL' (or copy the the 'Direct Link' from ImageShack) use the following tags (removing the asterisks) to showcase your work in the thread:

Centring is optional, but I personally find that it looks neater that way.

A word of note regarding the download of the templates:

Sometimes, if you save the file and try to open it, it will open in Adobe Photo Viewer. Simply change the opening preferences (under Properties) or open the file from PhotoShop itself in order to open the fully layered PSD.

So, I'm going to be recording and uploading a couple of tutorials on YouTube regarding the content and use of the templates. The first is a very simple overview of the template itself, and its contents. This is just so that you are familiar with what you will be dealing with before you open up the PSD file, just to make sure there aren't any surprises that you weren't expecting. Like I said earlier, it's fairly straightforward, so it shouldn't be too tedious.

The second video will consist of myself taking you through the creation of an existing weapon skin. This is just to familiarise and observe a few basic PhotoShop techniques that may or may not be useful when you come to creating your own. If you are familiar with the software, this probably won't be of much use, since everything I say will be relatively simple and basic.

These are the first commentaries I've done, so I apologise if I'm not the best commentator. I gave it my all, but I'm aware it doesn't sound as professional, interesting or relaxed as what others could accomplish. For that I do apologise. The music is my own by the way.

Remember, the best way to learn some simple effects or techniques is to have a 'Sandbox Mode'. By that I mean simply opening the file and having a play around with various adjustments/blending options to give yourself a rough idea of what's going on. The more you play, the more you learn. Just remember to have backed up the original document though, since you will more than likely find yourself irreversibly changing certain elements of the template itself!

I am by no means the expert in the field though, so please, explore, create and enjoy! If nothing else, it's fun, and that's the main thing right? So I think that's everything covered (if not, feel free to fire a question my way). Have a scroll below to see what others have come up with, and get downloading, watching, designing and uploading.

I don't know if it's similar enough to Photoshop for my tutorial/run throughs to be of any use.

Here is one I did,

I don't usually do stuff like this but just had the idea and wanted to see what I could do.

I don't think its that bad for my first effort, Tried to make it look like it has been used frequently and seen years of battle and wear.

Obviously a massive thanks NP473L for the template and the dozens of willing people on deviant art who spend time making decent brushes.

Will probably do some more if I get the time, I quite enjoyed it.

There was another post on here, I will try to find again where someone said they had made the templates from the longshot and boomshot, that they had used the source files from GoW PC

I know they cannot be re-skinned in game (Which is very unfortunate) but it would still be awesome to see peoples ideas for all weapons (I understand the time constraint, I am usually very limited on time as well) but maybe Epic will take user driven mods as a game prolonging tool in the future.

Definitely; I can agree with you on that front. I for one would love to see a Golden Torque Bow after all.

If it's something enough people are interested in, I'd be more than happy to play whatever part I can in realising it.
