Question NAT type changing back and forth.

Has anybody else had the problem with their NAT going from open to moderate and back and forth. I have been using a static IP for the past 2 years and it has worked perfect with no problems, but all of a sudden I am seeing the problem I just described. Also I have not made any changes to my Xbox settings nor my router.

This has nothing to do with gears. This is a problem with your router only.

The only reason I asked is because of gears showing the NAT type and I could swear I saw it somewhere on the forums awhile back about a possible glitch in the NAT type. As for for my router unless there is something physically wrong with it, but like I said I have not changed anything so I just wanted to see if anybody else's NAT was changing on gears 3.

Mine has been doing this too, but in all games.I was playing Black Ops yesterday and noticed I was lagging alot, so I went and checked my NAT type and it was moderate instead of open too.

I can't give you much personal advice, not knowing your system, but try opening your router ports, and putting your Xbox IP outside the firewall (DMZ mode).

Google will help you if you're unsure about either of those.

it doesnt cause lag it only affects matchmaking, joining, people joining you, and ability to communicate. i got a router to hopefully fix this and a couple weeks later it fixed itself then my technologically challenged mother unplugged the modem and boom strict NAT type all over again. U need to open a certain port or enable uPnP on your device. you can look it up online or just test your connection in the xbox menu and it will tell you whats up

IDK what is up with mine...

Mine has been open for a long time. Then about a month ago, it switched to saying Moderate.
--my friends have said they've seen now reduction in connection.

About a week and a half ago, it switch back to saying Open.

If you aren't really seeing a reduction of connection, I wouldn't worry about it.

Sometimes your internet provider will send out an update for your router or modem and not say anything about it. Even though your settings were right, they may get screwed up after the update. So you might have to recheck your settings, just to be sure.

Does this only effect finding matches or actual gameplay?

This happens to me once in a while. I just disconnect my router, wait for 30 seconds, turn back my xbox on, and my NAT opens up. It works every time.

Happens to me now and then. Normally when my router has been left on for a long period of time (weeks!) and under heavy use. A quick reset normally solves it.

Quite odd. I've always had open NAT on Gears but for the past few weeks, it's been Moderate. I'm lagging more than usual as well. A couple of my friends are also experiencing the same problem. I thought it was my internet or router. But it seems like the culprit is the game, somehow.

Did you put the Xbox in DMZ mode? (taking it outside the firewall)

No, but I forwarded the ports.

When I first tested connection via the Network Settings on the Xbox, I got the Moderate NAT message but after forwarding the ports, that disappeared. But on Gears 3 my NAT still shows as Moderate. And I'm definitely experiencing more lag because of this.

As I said, the Live test shows the NAT is open. But it's still Moderate in Gears 3.

Not being hostile lol, just saying. I'll try enabling DMZ now, see if that helps.
