Default Editing landscape even if its in different levels?

I have a landscape broken up into 3 different pieces, each piece in its own level, i can edit them all right now but sometimes i can only edit each map individually, i notice in the landscape option sometimes there is the option to select which level i want to edit but that option isnt there now so i can edit the entire landscape, why do i get that option sometimes and others i dont? i want to be able to edit the entire landscape without having to switch levels in the landscape editor, which is what i can do now but im afraid if i shut off UDK it will only allow me to edit one level at a time instead of the entire map. Am i hitting something or is it a glitch?

Make sure you don't have any of the 3 landscape pieces selected before opening the landscape tool. Although its probably safer to set each map to active and edit them 1 at a time. I'm not sure, not really a great deal of info about it.

Ok well im having a different issue with lighting, i cant build my entire level all at once or it gives me a lighting error so i have to build it all in sections, i have a light in a seperate level because i want to have a dynamic night day cycle not just one light in each map, but when i build lighting for each level there all black but one, how do i solve this lighting issue? keep in mind i cant build everything at once and i want to have a dynamic night/day cycle.

It may be a problem with the amount of RAM you have, or whether you're using the 32bit or 64 bit exe. Dunno if its the same now, but im sure the 64bit exe is a bit touchy when building lighting for large landscapes. Tends to just crash.

I take it your light and day and night cycle are the persistent level and you are streaming in the 3 landscape pieces? If that's the case, it should work fine. Does for me at least.

When you click on build lighting only, you should see options to only build "visible" and "current". Just double check that they aren't ticked.

Hmm, i still get a pitch black level and now weird black lines are showing up all over my map. I have an idea that i can try, i'll have to make lights for every level but its worth a shot. Also is there any way i can have matinee control lights and objects in different levels? Im just going to make a day night cycle for each level, and they'll all be in sync with each other.

Ok what i did was put a lightmass importance volume around each level, then i put a light in the persistant level in the center of the map, and everything is lit up fine and my characters gun isnt all black, BUT, i get the Lighting Needs to Be Rebuilt message in red lettering. Why do i keep getting that.

Is the persistent level the active level when building lighting?
