    Default Lag on Windows 7

    Hi! I couldn't find a solution to this anywhere, so I figured I'd ask myself. So I've played a lot of UT3 long ago on XP, but since I'm using Win 7 every Unreal Engine 3 game I've tried lags on high texture settings. It goes away after I've seen all textures, but until then it's just lagging. I used to be able to play on maximum settings even with Ballistic Weapons and the Crucible installed. Is there any solution for this other than setting textures to medium?

    Unreal likes xp; and so do i.

    - feel free to correct me if i am wrong;

    - but you should not experience any increased latency when playing offline
    - it is difficult to trouble shoot a problem, when one does not specify [fully] the situation.

    - Are your problems experienced online or offline?
    - what are your specifications?
    - etc etc etc

    - [without said information] noone can help you - it would be guess work.

    @Mate
    Try to start the UT3 instance with a command line argument. Append " -NOTEXTURESTREAMING" to your (desktop) link file.
    So it will look like this.
    Code:
    "C:\Program Files\Unreal Tournament 3\Binaries\UT3.exe" -NOTEXTURESTREAMING
    @TKBS
    Lag != Latency
    (is not equal)

    It doesn't seem to make any change.

    I start a game, no matter offline or online and it loads, but as I turn and move it stops for a few seconds until I've seen every texture on the map. Then it runs normal. It's the same with Blacklight: Retribution, White and other UE 3 games too. It worked fine on XP.
    I have a Q6600 CPU, Nvidia 8600 GT (256MB) graphics card and 2 GB RAM.

    Those are kind of low specs Mate, what are your ut3 video settings set too? Thanks.

    Everything on max except post processing and motion blur are of, because I hate those. It stops lagging and runs smoothly once it loaded all the textures, but until then it's really bad. If I lover texture quality it has no problem, but again, it used to work on XP.

    Windows XP uses less RAM on idle mode than Windows 7. You cannot compare the performance of a game on such different OS.

    With GameBooster and without superfetching it's somewhat better, but still not normal. Is there any other option, than OS change or HW upgrade?

    gamebooster?

    Try msconfig, disable all start ups and in services put a check in the box the hide all microsoft services, then disable all those, reboot and then try. You should disable aero too, 2GB is low. gamebooster?

    Isn't texture lag because of the graphics card? And Gamebooster is just a software that shots down unnecessary stuffs, so there's more free memory. It can also do some optimization and defrag on the games' folders.

    If you have transparency enabled in Aero, disabling it will allow the game to use more power from the GPU.

    I think I figured out what causes the lag: When I'm going forward I get normal frame rate, but as I'm moving the game unloads the parts of the map I can't see anymore, and when I turn around it stops to load it back. Is there any way to make more of the map stored at a time, or to make it run while loading, even if it means missing textures while it's loading, or to make it load faster?
