I'm looking to get my fill of twitch shooters and I'm trying to decide which to play (UT3 / 2k4). I'm obviously wanting to play the more active of the two. Anyone have any insight?

Last time I checked, UT2004 was more actively played. But then you can play both![]()
And if not for multiplayer, get it for singleplayer!Because for UT2004 there are tons and tons of custom content: total conversion mods, lots of extra weapons, skins in abundance, lots of maps, custom gametypes - in short, it's a game that potentially never gets boring!

Thanks for the replies! I actually just picked it up off Steam for $7.49 so I'm happy. Installing atm! :] I can't remember, but is there a working friends list in-game?
you need to check out some of these mods
http://www.moddb.com/games/unreal-tournament-2004/mods
and then after that, open the unreal editor and start mapping![]()
A huge fan of the entire Unreal franchise and Bulletstorm.
UT2004 tips thread; UT3 tips thread; remastered UC weapon textures (UCBP for UT2004, still WIP), CTF-FacingWorlds99 (UT2004; final in the making); AS-Overlord (UT2004, Beta4); DM-Crane (UT2004, Beta1 - currently unavailable); CTF-BattleOnSlysBlockForts (UT2004, RC1, made on request); DM-Morbias (UT2004, new link tba);
S l y .
I spent more time in UT2004 (but less of someone) than UT3.
there are always a friend, or a mate, or people which i know, which are playing ut2004.
For UT 3, it's not the same story.
The multiplayer is the only issu of this game.![]()
I stopped playing it actively, but as it's an amazing game. I play it every now and then (mostly offline) due to modding/mapping.
I love to play online, though it's hard on a 3G connection.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! Is there an active dueling community for 2k4? :]
UT2004 is the best choice, and quite possibly the best game ever made IMHO!

Oh jeez...Been a while I since touched this game (maybe close to a year ever since) since some modding activity slowed down, interest in other games, and/or due to RL. Maybe I have not visited this part of the forums(and RuneStorm's page) very often, but after installing UT2004 (after playing UT a lot again), I sort of went back to playing it. It is nice that this place remains alive. O.o

Not as active I once was, but still gaming (not multiplayer though) ~ 2012-05-12
UT2k4 ftw.
Such a good game, miss it.
I've just noticed a nice UK based DM server recently. It seems to be set up really nicely:
UK's House of Fraggin' - ut2004://173.199.74.191:7777
10 slot,
UTComp,
Good map rotation,
50 frag limit.
It just needs some more regulars. Be sure to join and add to your favourites.
