Default [WIP 3] Ocean Shader with Stylized waves

    Update (WIP3):

In this update, I did a bunch of small tweaks and improved the foam and frensel reflection.

I think I will wrap it up for the deep area, now I will see what I can do on the shore without making the shader expensive, I have some ideas to try and I hope they turn out to be as good as I think

And btw, I will make a detailed tutorial on this ocean. When I get some free time. Hope you guys like it so far.

    Update (WIP2):

Here's a new update. Still got some more stuff to do, hope you like it so far!

    Original Post:

    Hey guys!

I've been working on an ocean shader which will be part of my portfolio project. I'm not done with it yet, but I wanted to hear some thoughts from you guys. Any crits are welcomed.

And of course, it is better viewed in HD.

    Yep, looks good.
I still think that the fog in front distracts from ocean shader itself and looks kind of out of place. But the ocean shader itself looks very nice.

    Thanks man.

Yeah I really didn't bother with sky or the fog because this is just a test scene for me to view my progress. In my next update though I'll just push that fog far away.

    Thumbs up

Ocean shader looks good from far away, the fog didn't annoy, but you should make the next one.

@Steve: Thanks man! Glad you liked it.

@McTune: Yeah this ocean will be part of a huge environment, just working on it seperately for now.

The update (WIP 2) looks refreshing with fancy water wave movement and the clean sky. Good one!

Second update looks great! By far one of the nicest ocean shaders I've seen here. I anticipate quite a stunning portfolio env in the works
Do you plan on creating a tutorial once your shader is complete? (had to ask )

@Agent, @Tux: Glad you guys liked it so far!

@MotherJava: Thanks man! I am actually considering making a long video tutorial to break it down. I need to get the project done first. Oh and btw, I'm not creating the environment assets, my responsibilities are programming everything from A - Z, all shaders, game design, co-level design, and possibly lighting/post-processing. I have few friends helping me out to handle other stuff. I will make another WIP thread for my personal project when I have something presentable.

It gets better and better man!
Really waiting for the tutorial, I'm nearing the point where I'll need to create canal/sewer water shader, so the ocean tutorial would be beneficial.

Hey, do you have a tutorial for this shader yet? Or would you be willing to put your files online for us to have a look? I want an ocean shader for my level (it wont be playable just for my environment art showreel) and yours looks really good. It would be great to see your material settings?

    Thanks

There will be a detailed tutorial on my shader with downloads containing it and probably a sample map. I will do that once I finish few stuff and put a website up. Unfortunately, this will not happen soon... Probably around the end of this year.

Thats a shame, I will have to use a tutorial of another one of the ocean shaders.

    Thanks for the reply
