    Question adding CSG/ viewing CSG

when i make a box, in a new world, or a sheet and click "add csg" or "crtl + a" it doesn't seem to add csg. i dont know what is going on. i know that if you press "g" then it shows or removes the csg but it isn't showing the csg. i don't know if it has something to do with my version, i recently downloaded this version:
May 2012 UDK Beta (1.7 GB .exe) MD5 77edc7a64e2a1af19ddc031bd226308d . i don't really think it has anything to do with that. can someone please help me?

Try activating the Unlit viewing mode. Do you see your CSG?

And why are you using it? You are better off blocking off your environment in your 3d package and then get that imported to the engine. CSG is a real pain and not worth it.

I don't know if I agree with that. CSG is way easier and intuitive for blocking things out imo, and you'll never get collision issues.

Creating them and manually punching in x, y and z is just too primitive imo. To avoid any collision issues, you can just simply open up the static mesh editor and uncheck "Use Simple Box collision", and that will make the collision be per triangle. Of course, this is not ideal, but for the purposes of just blocking out, it will serve the purpose very well. And since you are basically modelling very simple shapes, you can have your entire blockout as one mesh with its collision being per triangle.

Perhaps you just need to add a light maybe you just not seeing the Csg. Make sure your using the add CSG also..Try and rebuild. Try using a template map.
UEd's geometry tools are the best there is ( for a game engine editor ) and for a level designer blocking out a level it is the best way. There is no need to go in and out importing this and that...it just works very well. The fact that you can turn this geometry into static mesh is another big plus.

ok so i tried to add lighting and i still cant see the csg. i tried different maps but none seemed to change anything. i reloaded lighting but it wasnt any help. the reason im trying to build csg is because i only just started playing around with UDK and i wanted to just build a simple basic easy map that i could walk on. you know start out basic. thanks a ton though for all the information on adding areas. the main point im trying to say is: its not only that i cant view the csg but i cant stand on it without falling forever. i dont think pressing "add csg" changes anything to a box.
