    Default Dom and Clayton Carmine

How did you guys feel about Dom dying and Clayton Carmine living in the campaign of Gears 3? Personally, I'm happy with it. The first time I played the Gears 1 & 2 campaigns, I went solo with a Dom AI and I thought he was useless. No matter what was going on in the campaign, he'd always pop a squat in the back while I had to kill all the enemies. I honestly don't recall ever seeing him fire a single shot. Remember the fight against the leviathan in Gears 2? Same scenario. AI Dom pops a squat in the back of the boat without firing a single shot, leaving me to take down the leviathan solo and after it's dead, he has the nerve to say "biggest fish I ever caught." I was actually glad to see him go in Gears 3. Besides, with his family gone, he had nothing left to live for, so it only makes sense.

Carmine in Gears 1 died too early in the campaign for me to care and the Carmine in Gears 2 took so long to die it was annoying. A buddy of mine joked that Carmine reminded him of Kenny from South Park because he died all the time and he thought it was funny. I'm glad the Carmine in Gears 3 lived. He was a badass!

Wow, 47 views and no replies? So nobody has anything to say about Dom dying and Carmine living? Would anybody have done it differently if they were making the game? Before it launched, there were rumors about Baird and/or Cole dying, too. What if one of them actually bit the dust, huh? Anybody?

Dom dying was the sweet release that he desired. The man had to endure losing both of his kids and all of his family on emergence day. Then in gears 2 he had to shot his own wife in the head to end her suffering. All the members of delta have had nothing but crap to deal to with since the locust showed up, but Dom has had the worst of it. He was usually the supportive and optimistic one until he had to shoot Maria and ever since until his death he was the shell of the man he used to be. His death was not only necessary to save the rest of the squad, but necessary for his character because he had nothing left to live his life for. I personally loved Dom's character and the fact that his AI not helping you shouldn't hinder your view on Dom's character and devotion to Marcus and the COG for that matter.

Also, as far as Carmine dying, I voted to Save Carmine. I played as Anthony in Gears 1, Benjamin in Gears 2, and I would play as Clayton in Gears 3, but they brought Benjamin so I play as him. I think it was fitting that the strongest and oldest of the Carmine brothers lived to honor the deaths of his fallen brothers.

I was hoping for Clay to live because he seemed like a complete bad*** but he he wasn't as cool as they made him out to be. As for Dom dying that was a very sad moment.

my brother and i played through gears 1 and 2 campaigns together. he always played as Dom. i was more sad about Tai dying than either of the carmines from gears 1 and 2. although i was rooting for Clayton to live, i thought his appearance at the end was a little on the cheesy side. but i'm glad he lived.
Dom going out the way he did was sad. i played through it for the first time with a XBL friend who wouldn't stop talking during the cinematic...i saw it coming...and had to tell her to shut up. then later when i played through it with my brother and girlfriend (we have 2 xbox consoles and 2 tvs in our living room..lol) i was wishing i could have that experience without the chatter...i had to live vicariously through their reactions. my brother was so attached to dom's character that he teared up. (he also teared up during the maria scene in gears 2)

Dom wanted to die. His brother, kids, and whole family were all dead. Hell, he killed his wife, so it made sense that he died. That being said I didn't like the way he died but oh well. It's over and done with. I absolutely love Clayton and am so glad he lived. Wish he was in the game more, but again not much I can do.

Haha I like how you are happy he died because of how useless his AI was rather than anything related to the story. I hated Dom's death, it felt completely contrived. Carmine I was indifferent to.

Yeah, read it and reread it and I stand by what I said. From a storyteller's perspective, it only makes sense that if somebody had to die in Gears 3, it had to be Dom. Think about it. If Marcus died in the middle of the storyline, it would kill the campaign. Baird can't die because he's too valuable as an engineer. Cole can't die because he's the token black guy (no offense, but you know I'm right). Besides, Baird and Cole double as supporting characters and comic relief. When was the last time you saw a story that killed off the comic relief? On top of all that, the Gears audience has become savvy of Epic's habit of introducing new characters just to kill them off (i.e. Tai Kaliso). I think Epic learned from this and decided that if somebody had to go in Gears 3, it had to be meaningful. AI criticism aside, Dom's story was tragic, to say the least. He lost his brother in the Pendulum Wars (I think, correct me if I'm wrong), his kids on E-Day, and he had to kill his own wife in Gears 2. He was committed to helping Marcus, making the ultimate sacrifice to make sure he could carry out his mission. I'd also like to believe he was at peace making the ultimate sacrifice because it meant he would be reunited with his family. No other character's death could have the impact on the Gears audience like Dom's. It's good storytelling, and it's poetic.

Tai's death came as a bit of a shock to me. It also wasn't revealed in the game what happened to Dizzy (though if you read the comics and novels, it explains what happened to him because he appears in Gears 3). I also hate it when people talk during the cutscenes, especially when you're watching them for the first time.

Agreed but many count the Carmines as comic relief to be fair.

I'll admit, I'm pretty happy that Clay Carmine survived. The Carmine brothers had always been my favourite (next to Baird) so when Clay picked up his helmet and shoved it back on at the end of Gears 3, I was so happy. Well, he was hardly in the campaign anyway so I suppose it would have been hard for him to find a opportunity to trot onto the screen and die

Dom's death was...predictable to say the least. All the warning signs were there, even from the Ashes to Ashes to trailer. He quite clearly didn't want to live anymore because he gave up the fight so easily. I was fully expecting him to die in the game so when it happened in the games, I wasn't really bothered one way or another. It didn't jump out on me like when Tai or the Carmine brothers. Before Gears of War 3 was released, me and my brother had pegged Dom to be the next one for chop. It seemed like a very cheap way for the writers to address Dom's trauma from the previous game and deal with it quickly.

But hey, that's just my opinion. You don't have to go spreading it around.

It wouldn't have mattered if Clayton died or not because he was barely even in the Campaign. And I thought that they made Dom's death really good not bad.

Oh, and, Anthony did die WAY too early in GoW1.

I agree don't forget the the fight with Raam where it doesn't matter if you tell the Dom A.I to take cover he usually downed which makes your job harder but overall it was the kind of thing that makes the story great how stranded mmakes you see how much they lost but Dom couldn't take that much loss and Clayton man that guy is great glad he lived.

I think that Anthony was going to survive and Cole was going to die, but Lester Spight wanted to voice Cole, and they saved Cole and killed off Carmine.
Also, Dom's AI in G1/2 was pretty useless as hell.

I always liked Dom but the scene when he died was just incredible great. Never before a video game touched me that much, it was insane. So i think it was ok that Dom died because it was shown in a very good way. I didn't really care about Carmine, if he would have died i might have not even cared at all

I was frankly pissed that Dom died, but in the end for him it was justified. I would've thought maybe Dom and Sam would have gotten together, and also I had this wild hunch that Anya was going to die instead. Anthony was killed awfully early in GOW1, I felt more connected with the character of Benjamin since you got to spend more time with him in the campaign of GOW2. And in the end I voted to save Carmine for GOW3.

I didn't care much for Jace either, to be honest. Clayton taking Dom's place over Jace would've been freaking sweet, especially if Cole and Baird were there for the rest of the campaign and didn't get replaced with Sam and Anya.

It's a valid opinion and I think you're right about the telltale signs being there from the Ashes to Ashes trailer. I remember the first time I watched it and I thought, "well, it looks like they're killing off Dom in this one."

Dom dying was good closure to the extreme pain he was suffering. As for Carmine, he was a really likable character so I'm glad he lived.

I didnt really like doms character as much as i did the others, and seeing how he was acting in GOW3 kinda glad he died brought the whole squad down, sad that he died but he took one for the team....makes up for all the uselessness his AI did in GOW1and2 LOL

Agreed, it just flat out made more sense for Carmine over Jace. I have nothing against Jace but the way he was portrayed in this game plus the number of game only fans playing, Carmine should've been there instead of him. Would've brought more of a sense of a closure too, however minute, to have a Carmine there in the squad towards the end as opposed to a guy many players would've seen as completely random.

To be honest his death probably brought the squad down even more, despite the extra determination.

I was upset that Dom I'm happy about Clayton living. I always loved the Carmines ( especially Benjamin ), but Dom's death just made me think of other ways and things he could have done in that situation so I didn't really care. Now that I think about it why didn't he put his hammerburst on the gas pedal and jumped out at the last second in an awesome slow mo cutscence?

Or why didn't everyone just get into the truck and they drove away happily?

On topic, I was sad that Dom died but it made me gain a lot of respect for his character and he is now one of my mains. As for Clayton, he should of died but I guess it was nice for a change. We should of saw his face though

I believe Dom would have died even if Carmine did too, I kinda knew Dom would die. R.I.P Dom.

I am happy with Dom dying that way he can be with Maria, and I also like that Carmine lives, but his voice just does not go with Clayton. I was expecting a deeper voice.

i was surprised by doms death, simply because i thought he and sam were becoming close.

i think it was hinted that sam had feelings for him, they were just not reciprocated.

    C. Carmine should have died, an EPIC would have sufficed, but death no less.

Perhaps if you wanted him to sound like a big gruff space marine or something. Me personally, I just wanted him to sound like a deeper and more experienced Carmine, which he did, and I fail to see how the voice didn't suit him.

I really hoped that Carmine was going to die..

About Doms death, I first felt a bit upset, but when thinking about, it was kinda pointless. He could have jumped out, but whatever.

In one of the books Dom thinks to himself "All i have left is to keep Marcus alive, Must keep Marcus alive" something along those lines anyway.

He did want to die though, just not in a standard offing himself way. He wanted to die doing something worthy/worth while for the others, which he did. I kinda liked how pointless it was, too much fiction avoids pointless deaths so it was nice to see a bit more realism.
