    Default Problems with online games

    So after a much too long break from UT2004 I decided to install it on my new windows 7 system. The install went fine and any singkeplayer or non online match played flawlessly. When I connect to an online game, right as I get in the match where it would say Click fire to join or click to switch players, it says receiving server state. The problem is that sometimes that while that message is displayed, the game is really funky. When I press Esc the menu does not display but If I moune over where the buttons would be that select sound is made but clicking the buttons does nothing. Also I can move around in spectator mode and go through anything in the map, walls and floors don't stop me. I cannot choose to spec a player but I can see them moving around, they all have the default skin. When it is this bad I cannot exit the game except by ending task in task manager. I have tried running UT in compatibility mode and that did not help at all.

    One side question, in the server list all servers with the name UT2004 Server have N/A ping and I cannot any of them.

    If you need any info from me please ask and any responses are appreciated.

    That seems really strange. I recommend a reinstall, pehaps this fixes it. Also, is the disc old and scratched?

    I tried reinstalling it and nothing changed. I got the disc when the game came out and there are some scratches , but no major ones. I aslo tried the version it is installed with and the newest version but still no change. I did not think of it earlier, but I might as well polish the disc. Any other ideas?

    Looks like a connection problem to me. Check your UT2004.log file, too.

    The game seemed to be running better today But I got the log from one game that had a few problems. I displayed press fire to view a player withouit letting me view a player for a while then it slowly got better. I think I see where the problem is so I will cut out some.

    Huh, GameReplicationInfo not found, that's strange. See if that happens on servers without a custom gametype, and if it does, if the log prints anything different.

    As for those fail to load warnings, you can solve them by finding the packages for "carribean" and "HourstuffX3", that will make the game start a bit faster and the two maps shown in that log will appear. But that's not related to the online issue.

    The problem with noncustom games, the ones that are called UT2004 Server, is that in the server browser it will list that it has players and what map is being played but the ping is N/A and the names of the players are not shown in the bottom right corner. When I join, it tries to connect but never gets past the connect screen.

    Well, that doesn't explain much, as it just seems like it failed to connect. Are you sure you're not behind some kind of a restrictive firewall here?

    I don't think there are any restrictions. I have been reinstalling a couple times and no change. I have noticed that sometimes on online games characters will appear without a skin, just a white model. I doubt it is related though.

    I got it to work now but I'd like to post what I did in case anyone else has the problem.

    First I went in the windows firewall and out UT2004 on both the private and public allowed list. Previously it had been on only the private list. This helped a little bit but it did not run perfectly.

    After that I found something about the 64bit patch. I already tried the patch but this time there were instructions saying that the 32bit 3369 patch must be installed before the 64bit patch and you had to move some files into the system and help folders of UT2004. When you start UT2004, you will have to do it through the .exe that was provided in the 64bit patch download so you might as well create a shortcut for it. I had a few problems with the resolution being that the game crashes when switching to a higher resolution so I ran the new shortcut in compatability mode for Vista. Windows 7 also appears on the list so that might be a better option. After running in compatability mode the graphics worked fine. It seemed that both having the 32bit patch installed before the 64bit patch and transferring the downloaded files are very important because I ran the 64bit patch earlier while not following the instructions and the problems did not go away.

    I hope this helps someone in the future and thanks to everyone who helped.
