Default Having problem using my light material as a light function

Hey guys, a quick major question. I wanted to placed flickering lights in my level to give it some more character. I created the flickering lights in my material editor. Everything is good. After that I selected the usage to be as a light function. BIG PROBLEM NOW. I selected my light which is a Domonant Spot light. I try to add the function and I get nothing. I have attempted to convert the light to toggleable but it yields the same results. I really need this to work. Does anybody have a solution to my problem?

Second question. For the same level I have attached a flashlight to my player to use. At first, the light was not directly in front of the player it was off to the left. Then today I start to work on the level and when i play tested, I have no flashlight anymore, but I can see it when i edit the level in lit mode. Any suggestions for my problem?

Are you using the emissive channel in the material for the light function?

Should I have created the function under material function instead of just materials?

Are you using the May 2012 version of UDK? I just tested it and it looks like light functions are broken in it. They work just fine in any of the other versions I have installed on my machine but they don't work no matter what I try in May. There've been a few big features lately that have become broken in this build.

The only way you can use a light function is to use a version of UDK that is older than May 2012 it seems.

Actually I may have figured something out. Are you using a dominant directional light that was in a template map? For some reason light functions don't work with those. You need to delete them and put a new one in its place. I think it was just some weird glitch I was getting on my end because after a few restarts light functions seemed to be working properly again.

No i am not using a directional light. It is a Dominant spot light I was using. I have not been building in a template map. Everything has been from the ground up with my project. I am working in an older build I believe from around January/Feburary sometime. The strange thing is that when I built another level in the same build, my light function works just fine. I know that light functions can only be used under certain guidlines. And I may have tweeked something that may have effected that in some sort of way. Thank you for addressing my question
