Big Grin Tutorial listings - in need of help for a tutorial series plan

    Hello fellow unreal creationist.
i have recently been given permission from my local college to write a tutorial series for the unreal engine.
and i am not sure how to lay the whole series out.

i know i am planning on covering everything from the basic User interface to full on custom programming, from creating a basic room in editor to fully interactive environment.

however i am not sure how to lay it all out.
i know i plan to release mini series tutorials to cover wider use of things (example: specialist weapon's). but i am not how to structure the layout for it all.

so far i am planning on doing:
Part 1: Getting to know the basics.
    Part 2: Getting personal
    Part 3: Advanced content
Part 4: Unreal programming beginner to pro.
    ext.

it would be greatly appreciated if people could give me suggestions on what tutorials to cover and what section it will fall under.

    thank you

what about making an actual game in your tutorial?
    something that isnt an fps.
then the whole tutorial series will be tied together with a common goal.
    Code:
    We.spazmodicaly.simulate.new.sound.with.technical.equipment.that.is.specificaly.manufactured.for.humans.to.communicate.in.outer.space.Tegleg.manipulates.time.and.space.to.create.new.experiences.to.generate.a.hardcore.database.generation.

I'm assuming you've fixed the problem you were having with scripting workflow then?

i may make a small rpg style game, but i think i might do a simple tutorial series creating a basic fps and then do a more advanced series for a rpg after

there already is a decent fps included with udk called unreal tournament.
i didnt mean anything as complex as an rpg but a simple game that can illustrate various things you are trying to teach.

tbh, when i say fps, i mean as in fully custom, not preset stuff like unreal tournament. plus the tutorials are going to be about work progression, i think adding custom weapons and making your own character and vehicles and stuff will be a good place to start. then again, i could set up the tutorial to show both first and third person shooters.
remeber that the idea for the tutorials is to take away all of the boring un-needed crap that most video tutorials tend to rant on about and just go with the overall creating the content and working with the game engine

You know, as long as you make a game which isn't UT/UT-ish FPS I think it'll be fine. A good idea is to create a clone of something so you have a clear goal. It doesn't have to be anything fancy or have any custom assets but a very basic clone of Orcs must die or something like that. I'm not telling you or asking you to use Orcs must die but it was an example. Clones are usually good (or so I think)

im taking desirable assets from existing games that i know new users are going to want to add.
call of duty sprint and knifing, battlefield 3 weapon customisation and stuff like that.

my plan now is to make a simple wave defence game like killing floor and cross it with battlefield 3 character setup (sniper, support, engineer ext.) and weapon customisation. and i might put character customisation on it aswell if i can get that working.

il update 1s i get the tutorial listings together and stuff so people can see my plans for tutorials by the end of the year and stuff

Be careful with the fair usage laws of your state. Some companies don't take kindly to having their hard worked art assets used for something they don't approve of, especially on an engine that they don't like either.

When you say take, you mean model some same looking models than COD yourself, right ? because you do know you are not allowed to use someone's work for you especially a commercial game, you can get sued for copyright issues,

I think by assets he meant them as features in a game. Like sprinting and knifing how to get one that's like call of duty, not use actual models from the game just the idea. I think that's what he meant but I may be wrong.

Thanks for wanting to take your time to make a tutorial. I am new to UDK, so the more support the better.
