Everything reset. All I got left if campaign collectibles

So yeah, I was playing earlier, arcade on anvil gate insane with mutators and my 2nd controller sitting idle. I'd been noticing some load issues and glitches in the session (Some parts of chapters were freezing for a little while, finding large sections of scenery missing and on anvil gate, I'd clear a wave of maulers and grinders and the next wouldn't come for two minutes or more). Anyway I finish the chapter and get the ribbons and points screen, then it starts the cutscene and freezes. I leave it be for a while but nothing happens, just a frozen image of Marcus' torso, so I switch off the xbox, figuring it needs to take a break.
Back later and everything is gone now; medals, level, ribbons, character and skin unlocks and mutators all gone. All I have left is my campaign collectibles (fat lot of good that does me).

If you're gonna make ridiculous achievements like seriously 3.0, you should make some allowance for this type of thing. (Skyrim makes multiple auto-saves so you maybe only lose an hour if a file corrupts, you couldn't do something similar to save us losing hundreds of hours). I shouldn't have to back up save files myself, I bought a console over a pc so I wouldn't have to deal with the nuts and bolts of things.

I've been a fan for a while now, played the original, all achievements for gears 2 and I've put from 5 up 30 hours a week into the game every week since launch night, accepted a season pass which turned out as little more than a short campaign extra, a bunch of annoying, ill-conceived achievements and a load of pointless cosmetic stuff that I'm apparently supposed to be grateful for. New characters and a few maps so big, 5v5 multiplayer gets lost in them, spending half your time just wandering around playing hide'n'seek with the enemy.

As great as the games are, it just annoys me the kind of amateur hour mistakes that Epic makes, and I've always been the guy defending the games and their flaws, so much that a couple of days ago I was willing to put up with the fact the next game will feature the two most irritating, one-dimensional (and in Coles case, racial stereotyped and pandering) characters. Now... not sure I will, thinking this time I'll save my money

Anyway rant over, fix it or I may never come back to this francise.

That sucks man. I feel your pain, was reset in December. It really is ridiculous that this just keeps happening to hundreds of people. It's a big joke at this point that I have to check for corrupted player data on my dash, load up the game, and then make back-ups everyday. I'm sorry but that is absurd and no one is going to convince me that this is a problem with other games. Oh wait, it was a problem in another game: Gears 2. I was also reset in Gears 2.

Good luck if you start the grind again, if not enjoy whatever you do pop into that disk tray.

I feel your pain. I was reset at a red 95 after at least 1000 hours of gameplay!!! I haven't touched the game to play online in over three weeks!!! It's kinda of hard to put all that work back into a game that screwed you out of all your work. Maybe I start playing again maybe!!! It's sad everyday that I get on the forums one or more players are being reset!!! I hope EPIC gets the message that they need to fix this ISSUE!!! I understand that there are multiple things that can cause it, but they can start eliminating them one by one if they tried really hard like they say they are!!!! Which I am having a hard time believing since we all know what they have really been working on!!!

I feel your pain man, I had everything reset last month and I haven't played since. Talked to Epic they couldn't do anything, called microsoft they said I was SOL. It is so fustrating.

They won't address it. They'll move on to promoting GoWJ so we can buy that and most likely experience the same reset issues. Resets are an epidemic in Gears 3. What is most insulting is that there is no discourse when you're reset and they just kinda shrug and refuse to take responsibility. It's insulting and awful customer service. Why not stop wasting time on creating hundreds of weapon skins and work on a fundamental issue like preventing dozens of resets daily?

Just as you said they are too bust working on GOWJ!!! Too many issues for them to fix I guess. Customer service sucks and listening to what your customers wants are a joke as well. They can't fix the kill stealing because its a team game. So we the customers who play the game get screwed. Its sad that COD is a team game and they fixed it for there CUSTOMERS whats wrong with EPIC???

Sadly no one would have the plums to ask such a question, and it is a legitimate one. It's funny, everytime I play Gears I check my player data file for corruption and still when I turn it on I expect to be reset. Then I check my medals to make sure that they are at 63/65 and that the last 2 I need are at the same status of what I left them when played last. I'll be happy to get Seriously 3.0 next week and be able to pop in a game and fire it up and not take several precautions beforehand.

You do know EPIC can't stop corrupted data, right? No-one can. All the user can do is take steps to ensure that it happens less frequently (as in not shutting down during a save).

And before you say "this only ever happens in GoW" no, it doesn't. It happens in a multitude of other games, and has been affecting PC users for years.

And before you say "this only ever happens in GoW" no, it doesn't. It happens in a multitude of other games, and has been affecting PC users for years.

This. It's impossible to completely prevent data corruption. Epic can't stop your console from freezing or stop people from going to the dashboard or turning off the console while data is being saved.

As for the comment about kill stealing, you can't fix something that doesn't exist. Last Stand in CoD is different. It only happens if someone has that perk equipped and they'll die after a short time whether someone shoots them or not. That's not the case in Gears unless you're playing Warzone. Downing someone doesn't entitle you to a kill. That's why they're separate stats. Is it annoying when you down an enemy and a teammate kills them when you're right there? Sure it is, but that doesn't make it this huge issue that people have blown out of proportion. If someone kills the guy you downed, take your points and move on.

It's amazing the amount of people that get reset ( including myself back in December) and epic do nothing about fixing this problem.
It is extremely frustrating as a gamer to loose all that you've done.

I back up every couple of days after reading about so many on this forum getting reset. I've NEVER done that for n e console game b4 and I've bn a console demon over the years.

Kill steealing was fixed in modern warfare 2 I believe when I was playing it. You didn't need a perk to get your kill after they were down. Its a simple fix that EPIC Mr. Rod Fergusan has stated that they will not fix!! I understand that its a team game but your customers are paying for a game and would like there kills when they did all the work. To the OP get a thumbdrive and use cloud and save your progress often.

I'm never pissy about kill stealing because I always get 110 points for downing somebody (If I done all the damage.) And the person that steals taht kill only gets 10 points. so.. yeah. And it also counts as an assist.

As for the rank resetting, I had all of my GoW3 data on a memory card, and some of it on my hard drive. My File went corrupt when I tried to transfer the data from the memory card to the hard drive... BLEcc

Issues like this are the exact reason I visit the forums everyday. I learn what issues are affecting other gamers and how to avoid it before it happens to me. So far I have been fortunate enough to not suffer a reset in Gears 3 like I did in Gears 2 (which put me off from Gears 2 for a very long time) even though there have been several incidents that could have caused one (like when we lost power due to a storm just as we hit the end of one horde wave and started to transition into the next). I get nervous every time. I would rather save my backup on a thumb drive than the Cloud, so I still have to buy one. It's one thing to work hard on something, it's another entirely to have to do it all over again. Smh.

Being unable to open the start menu i had no choice other than switching off my xbox. Upon my return to the party & the game, i was devastated to see i had been reset from rank 53 (red prestige) to rank 1 (white prestige), not only that but all unlocks, ribbons & medals have been reset, the only data that has been kept is my campaign progress. Like others, i used to experience glitches during my Gears 2 days, but nothing as extreme as this. i will now be getting rid of Gears 3 and it doesn't matter how good Gears: judgement looks, i will not be purchasing any future releases under the Epic banner. I have never felt so cheated over a game, the investment of any more of my time into such a flawed product would be beyond stupidity!

I was turned off as well when I was reset!!! But i have moade the choice to start all over again. Now I'm a blue 96 with seven onyx medals. Hopefully EPIC gets this figured out before GOWJ comes out. This game has definately turned a lot of gamers away from all of its issues!!!!

Since discovering horde mode in Gears 2 way back in the day, it fast became my favourite game to play. I loved the teamwork element & camaraderie it provided. The majority of my friends (on my friends list) have mainly been made while playing horde or gears multi-player and sad as it sounds, i am finding it slightly heartbreaking to turn my back on the game, but after all the hours game play that has been erased (earlier that day i had unlocked Chairman Prescott) i really don't see how i can trust to play it again. I can live with a game crashing (Fallout 3, Oblivion's Shivering Isles dlc & Fallout: New Vegas were notoriously bad for that, but still some of my favourite single player games) it's the loss of data i'm struggling to deal with. If anyone out there can offer me a cast iron guaranteed way of preventing it happening again, i maybe persuaded to keep the game. As it stands at the moment though, after playing the game since day 1 of the beta release... i just feel too cheated for it to ever enter my xbox again.

I agree entirely with you on that, my Saturday nights data wiping freeze was not the first game freeze i had experienced whilst playing Gears 3, it had happened a couple of times before but there had been no adverse effects from escaping the only way i could, by turning off the console. Well welcome me to the reset club, played a versus match at 4 am, game frooze, came back minutes later, no reset, turned off game woke up 4 hrs later, reset. Now like the next man or woman i loved this game, was the only game i play, went frm green 68 to 1 in a matter of hours. No methods ive read have fixed. Call epic they blame xbox, called xbox they blame epic. I will not buy judgment. I hav spent over 100 bucks with this one game, ie. game, season pass, need hard drive. So this is it for me with epic. They should put on the package to backup files, they tell you how to play but not how to protect yours files from them. Sry for the length

The same thing happened to me at a red 78, it was double xp and I was ranking up like crazy and then in the next hour or so I got back on to be a ONE. I did nothing wrong, I even dislike the fact of modifications but for some reason I was. And if resetting me wasn't enough I lost my beta items, I worked hard for the items I had and don't deserve the reset, I'm about 90% sure that most of the people don't deserve it either. If you suspect that someone is modding in a game then try to single out that profile and not everyone (I got the idea from an above post saying that when one person in an online lobby mods then everyone is punished) EPIC games should definitely fix this, I'm sure that there are people like me who just started playing the game and noticed that all of your work since SEPTEMBER had been lost, and if your like me and played the beta then that was wasted time as well. EPIC please focus on the issues on gears of war 3 instead of promoting the next new game especially if the current problems still occur.

I boosted to get back to where I was with the recon ribbom, act 2 and act 3 scenes. Now I am a level 400 with the help of the 1v1 on guardian. But like most of us who ahve been reset it sucks. I have played every gears game including the BETA. So I am addicted. As far as GOWJ not to sure if I will be buying that game. Changing control schemes and other things to please a COD crowd NO THANKS. Gears is special in its own right and is difficult to play to some degree with a learning curve. COD is boring and pointless to me after a while. GOW should have been loyal to its fan and kept things the way they were!!!

Is restoring a rank something hard to do. I think ive read that epic has made up to 18 billion on this one series alone. Im to the point i would have paid for the restoring, alto i fell thats gonna be their next gemmick

Personally, i have never boosted or modded any game. I have removed people off my friends list for just sending me invites to boosted games & anyone who i come across in online competitive play who is using a modded control pad (Hammerbursts firing at the rate of lancers indeed!) gets a bad rep from me. I've played all 3 games & i bought Bulletstorm: Epic edition just for the Gears 3 beta. Since the release of Gears 3 i've pretty much played that game exclusively so yeah, i suppose i could be classed as an addict. Trouble is if you were addicted to cocaine & a dealer sold you baking powder, would you go buy more product from that dealer? Somehow i doubt it. The time i put into Gears 3 to get to rank 53 (red) is irreplaceable & even if i play the game 24-7 until Gears: Judgment is released, whose to say the same thing isn't going to happen again? I may play the odd game of horde with my friends just to be sociable but sorry to say this franchise is now dead to me. Real shame, i was a genuine player & fan.

I never boosted anything in this game until I was reset at no fault of my own. You do what you have to do to get your stuff back. Nothing I did was illegal. I'm not going to put in all the months into this game to get my rank back that was for sure. I sought out alternatives and did what I needed to do. Your choice to give up on this series is totally up to you. I was mad as hell when I lost everything and I wanted to turn in the game and start playing something else. I gave it another shot and i'm glad I did so far. Well good luck to you in the next game you play.
