    Question Simple new level question

    So my UDK level I am working on is a modular set of meshes put together to make a medieval caste scene.

    In all the tut videos I have seen the author is making a set size map with the purple and white sheets. I could be totally wrong here but my scene is just a bunch of repeating meshes and some stand alone meshes ie pillars, walls, doors etc. Do I really need to make a map size or put down those purple and white sheets or no?

    I mean can my scene JUST be my imported mesh pieces and nothing else??

    You do not have to use BSP to 'block out' the level, although I highly recommend it. Even if it's just to get scale down.

    Yeah, Vawx is right, use BSP's. basiclly they are the blue and white checkered material that you see, and it builds up the levels detail by about 20% depending on the ammount of BSP detail you use.     BSP i good for laying out your level design, iterating, prototyping, and gray boxing your level. Once your design is complete, start replacing all your BSP with static meshes and art it up. By the end, you should have little to no BSP in your level and it should be completely populated by static meshes.
