Default Unreal Tournament X Quake is what we need :]

I've been thinking about what competitive FPS game I want for PC recently and I got this idea. We need a new FPS E-sport game to fill the gap after Quake, Unreal, Counter-Strike etc and I think alot of FPS gamers feel that way. So I thought, why not take some inspiration from the fighting game community and make a game based on the two most awesome competitive FPS games like they did with Street Fighter X Tekken? Those games would obviously be Unreal Tournament and Quake

I think a game where ID software and EPIC games work together could unite alot of FPS gamers from different games into one E-sport game and hopefully get alot of attention from new players, kind of like Starcraft II has done for the strategy game genre.

Here's just me dreaming about some features such a game could take from previous games in both genres:

    Quakeworld: Bunnyjumping, maps.

Quake 3 Arena: Player models, machinegun, gauntlet, maps, powerups, positional player sound.

    UT99: Sniper Rifle, maps.

Unreal tournament 2004: All weapons except lightning gun, assault rifle, shield gun, rocket jumping added to RL since shield gun is removed, two fire modes on weapons from Quake. Dodge jumping, player models, announcer voices, maps, game modes.

I like UT2004 and Quake 3 the most so I'm obviously biased towards them but I think Unreal Tournament X Quake could be a really awesome game to revitalize the competitive FPS scene with if done right and I'm sure it would get alot of attention aswell, what do you guys think?

id rather have dodging over bunnyjumping. Tho dodging from unreal 1 or UT99, not the floaty stuff ut2003 and ut2004 got.

Well it's hard to choose movement from only one of the series imo since movement is one aspect where both series shine. I was thinking of having both bunnyjumping and dodgejumping, it should work out theoretically but it depends how good it feels. I prefer bunnyjumping for out of combat movement and dodging is great in fights and for sliding up on things, adding both may result in some interesting moves where you mix the two for best performance

A game where you choose your movement style and arsenal depending on whether you're a Quake player or UT player. See who wins out.

I recommend game called Warsow. They took best parts from Quake's, UT's and Painkiller and put in one game. Only thing which isn't there is shock combo

It wouldn't work. Firstly you will have problems creating map highly playable for both games at the same time without favourizing one of them. Secondly quake movement is faster and weapons are a bit overpowered comparing to UT ones.

Yup, the Railgun in Q3A was quite powerful, if you got some aiming skills, you quickly could have landed some impressives and get on top of the scoreboard.

The idea sounds good, but the realization would be very hard.
Other than that I have doubts id Software and Epic Games would sit together and work on something like this, they have been competitors since Unreal.
A huge fan of the entire Unreal franchise and Bulletstorm.

Fartuess: Eh I guess that's why UT often has Quake maps and vice versa. Anyway not every map has to be made the same. Some might slightly favor one side, what matters is an overall balance in the end. Also, Warsow isn't that good I've tried it.

Sly: Even competitors can see business sense in partnerships sometimes.

Not that I think it would ever happen, but, it's an interesting idea and one that would get me back online if done right. Actually the more I think about it, it could even bring together the communities of all the UT games if done right.

Warsow isn't good? Well not every gametype and map is perfect here, but this game is just perfect for duels. Movement is perfect, balance is great, there are some really good duel maps. Warsow was a bit hard to start , but when i get used to this game it is awesome to play. Imo it completely crush Quake live.

But it's not good in massive deathmatches.

I think many of us have thought of this idea at some point. It is awesome and then most of us realize it's never going to happen. I mean I can't expect id and Epic to work together for a FPS, simply because both of them have their own roadmaps, and different ways/philosophies to make games. Technically in game development, 1+1 doesn't always >=2, bad cooperation can easilly ruin everything, even though everyone involved are talents.

As for the idea, I think there are many players of both titles are not competitive players. Like me, I used to play quake with my friends but just for fun, I didn't spend much time to practise aiming or movement. I enjoy this game very much and till today I have it installed on my HDD. Same for UT, so my point is, both titles are, or were, successful, not just because they are competitive games. More importantly, they are fun to play.

Warsow is cool, I just don't like that visual style very much.

Warzow looks rly cool. Looks to me like a Quake game with a slightly different graphics. I mean even the skins and the jump sounds are from Quake. Gonna give it a try..

Actually the main reason it would never happen is they probably each have far too much invested in their own engines. iD wouldnt want to put quake on UE and vice versa. If they were both just random game studios it might have been a different story.

    @Henrik

Well. I think that they could cooperate on that kind of project (considering that it won't be anything huge). They're not competition anymore in my opinion. Choosing engine wouldn't be a big problem for small game. Just that one which suits better.

    _______

About visual style of warsow. It looks like that for two reasons. It is made for hardcore players which very ofter prefer clarity over lot of effects and also they're very small, actually indie, team which doesn't have enough resources to make stunning visuals. They'd choosed style which is easy to create and remains looking quite good. At beggining i felt stange but i get used to it when i drew into the game.
