Epic's Commitment to Competitive Gears?

Some background: I'm relatively new to Gears in that I didn't start playing it until the third one was released (I would have but I didn't even have an Xbox). However my level of interest in the franchise was always relatively high and I loved watching the game played competitively. So my perspective is that of a spectator.
That being said after I began playing Gears regularly I threw myself into learning about the competitive community.

Unfortunately for me I was rather disappointed to discover that while Gears has a pretty tight knit albeit small community, it is floundering for attention and support and constantly overshadowed by games like Call of Duty. And while there is a pretty big event occurring in Philly this weekend, it is still unclear as to whether or not Gears of War 3 will ever be picked up by MLG (apparently unlikely) and another Hypefestation event seems to have faded into uncertainty.
I've been hearing a lot of murmurs about this game dying so I just wanted to know what others thought about all this?

Gow 1/2 were on the MLG circuit, but GoW2 got taken off because it was so boring to watch. Since Epic added stopping power it slowed the game down to a gridlock all the time. Also with all the updates and trying to remove concuss smokes, MLG got fed up.

There was talk about GoW3 being on the MLG circuit, but I don't know if that will happen. Anyway, you can watch videos by GoldGloveTV and Artic. They both uploaded comp GB games sometimes.

Competitively, I believe Epic doesn't really care for the MLG scene. It's not to say that they don't support the game still. They've made word on their Season Pass (which is relatively good btw) and might plan more with feedback!

I'm pretty sure they're some competitive circuits around, just not BIG BIG like MLG or something (sorry, I'm unfamiliar with shooter leagues, if I watch gaming I usually watch Fighting game circuits like EVO and etc.)

They do care about the competitive scene.

PeteNub showed up to Hypefestation 2 and helped a great deal when they were having DLC issues on certain 360's. Spectator mode (which was extremely hard to put into the game) was added for casters to make their job a little easier.

Quinn DelHoyo has spoken to MLG_Sundance on a personal level. He was trying to get it on the circuit.

Easy, CoD=Halo and Battlefield fanboys, not so much skill, take like a couple of matches to get used to, GoW really need times to be good, you need to know how to move your character, the Gnasher, how win the power weapons. That's basically why isn't so much people into Gears Of War.

Gears Of War it's gonna die if we don't see something new, mostly DLC.
There is competitive tournaments, recently was the Adam vs Eve. Anyway, if you have a clan, usually you'll play in GB. Thinkin' in Essence for myself uhmm

I'd like to say I don't mean to question Epic's commitment by suggesting that they don't care. That would be a pretty ignorant sweeping assumption about issues I don't 100% understand. I've actually been really impressed with the level of open communication there is between Epic and the community in general.

As someone else said in a previous post, most games on the Pro Circuit are fast paced, in Gears, a game can go on for up to 30 minutes... not exactly "entertaining" to most viewers...

And you'd be surprised how exciting Gears competitive is to watch. If you watched Hypefestation 2, you understand what I'm talking about.

Except, that has nothing to do with competitive...

Execution Mercy and Trenches were the only slow maps in competitive -- they were both removed long time ago.

But still, I think as a whole, Gears is not made for serious competitive scenes. But that's not to say that it can't be, I've watched Gears matches before and what drives me to be hype are the players actions and reactions and all the while knowing what they're doing. It's definitely inspiring. But still, the reasons why it isn't MLG (from what I've read and seen) I guess are the reasons why I like the game more than COD/Halo/etcetc.

It truly can be a competitive game.

I believe it wasn't picked up because it doesn't rack up the views like Starcraft II does. On a daily basis, Gears is lucky to get past 200 viewers on Twitch TV, unless GoldGlove streams, then it gets around 600. SCII on the other hand averages over 10,000 views a normal day. Not now though, it has dropped a ton since Diablo III released.

But, it does get a ton of views when there's a major event going on. I believe it peaked 10k viewers during Hype 2.

I still have high hopes for the next season.

I really enjoyed watching the Hype tournament last time. Iirc there was over 10k viewers at some points, I lol'd when everyone on the chat kept talking "IT'S OVER 9000!!!" Good times, great matches, usually fast paced but there was of course those long execution rounds too. KotH was imo the most fun to watch..

Agree with your first paragraph, second.... not so much. gears is a hard game, the gears "vets" think it is easy now but not really, just because they are good at it they assume anyone can just rifle anyone down. Gears won't "die" lmfao, the players we have now are the real players who are currently choosing gears over the other games that have come out. But if the day come when finding matches with bots and not being to find ranked games for a long time, then i will quit gears 3, i don't like killing bots lol.

It's a really good game now, just it's too hard for the newer players, for instance, i used to say to my friend all the time to buy gears 3 (he's a cod player) but he said maybe later everytime. Then he bought it two weeks ago and played the campaign and the mp, in ranked he got his ass handed to him, i told him to use the retro for some help but he still couldn't handle it.

So guess what? he quit, he said it is too hard for him and.... he misses killstreaks LMFAO!!!

Well I was talkin' like 'Hey, there is nothing new in Gears, let's move to another one' so yes, it's gonna be hard to find matches without too many bots but as you say, the people that stay in the game should be those Veterans and I think it's already competitive to play with these people.
