    Default (Relatively) cheap 3d art

I am currently starting a UDK project, and I need a character model for the main character as I have no skills whatsoever when it comes to character modelling. Is there anywhere I can purchase one of decent quality for less than $300? I am willing to go custom if necessary, but I am fairly sure that that would cost quite a bit more.
    Thanks.

What sort of project? The quality and cost of the model are going vary greatly depending on the project and platform it's intended to run on... Feel free to send me an email and perhaps we can create something custom for you that's within your budget

I have been investigating art packs from places like dexsoft and 3drt. They arent totally custom per say, but the price is right.

Interesting. Just looking at the Dexsoft stuff atm and I'll check the license later, but I assume they grant rights to fully convert/modify/adapt the mesh? Could be very useful as a base topology to create something new (not to sell, of course).

The license at 3DRT and DexSoft is really permissive as you can modify it, adapt it and do what you want royalty free. The only exception is that you can't sell the animations, models and textures as is (which is their business model after all).

You don't need to purchase anything. There are thousands of free Creative Commons characters out there. Even using ZBrushes basic characters and fiddling around with them, idiots with no modelling knowledge can create the most awesome adaptations.
