Thumbs up My thoughts on Ranked. Spoiler alert: they're positive. (Mostly)

I played ranked TDM today for the first time ever. I was always hesitant to go into it because of all the bad things I had heard about it. Tryhards, trolls trolling tryhards, immature people who rage over nothing, slow matchmaking, etc. I went in and I pretty much loved it. It had a much better atmosphere to it. Everyone was focused on winning, even when it was obvious we were losing. Matchmaking was very quick for me as well.

As for the things I didn't like so much, there are few. I noticed people are a lot more disrespectful to downed players. Dry humping, smoke swinging, giving people the "So Close" ribbon, all that. Also on the topic of downed players, most people who got downed wouldn't crawl. They'd just lie there and accept their death. I never give up, so I don't understand why they did.

Then there were the Gnasher duels. It only happened in one match, but it happened enough in that match to spoil the game, for me at least. Someone from the enemy team would melee at one of our guys, then they would have an organized, honor driven duel. I think such things are asinine. That's why if someone challenged me, I would rifle them to death. All match long, all players but me were having organized duels, and I wasn't about to lose a match because people want to stroke their egos. I ruined their duels by shooting them all to death with my Hammerburst! My team didn't take kindly. I left afterwards to find a match with sensible people.

I played Ranked for about two hours and I'll definitely give it another go. Oh, the biggest party I encountered consisted of four people. I suppose it's true when people say that all the stacked teams are in QM.

In a game infested with Rifle-campers and SoS/Retro abusers, a Gnasher duel is the most honorable example of skill being showcased. Don't get me wrong, if its going on constantly and its the only thing happening, sure, fire away. But if two other players wish to challange one another to a battle, leave them to it and clean up afterwards if your guy fails. Its their choice and only they have the blame if they lose.

I run across nothing but full teams in Ranked.

Played six Execution games yesterday and the smallest party I went up against was a team of three.

I would play Stranded, but that thing is a ghost town.

Yeah please don't be that guy that ruins gnasher battles. I know it isn't what you want to do but if the majority does, theres no need to spoil their fun because your not having any. I have never been in a game, quick or ranked, where every single person was doing it so maybe that was just a fluke. Anyways you have every right to "clean up" but please don't ruin a duel.

As for ranked stranded, seriously why is nobody playing this?

Because people won't play until numbers go up.
Numbers are low because people don't play.

Keep playing ranked for awhile you will eventually run in to stacked teams (you think down humping is bad with regular randoms...) also if someone is standing over you dont fight the death just catch that clown on the flip side and body him.

thats my experience in ranked lol my ranked record is somewhere around 8 wins 14 losses and those 8 wins were with good teams, since Gears 1 I never liked ranked and yes I hardly played gears 2 until social came out, casual? maybe but I like the quick drop in and out matches and want to actually have fun with the game and not try my absolute best to get a kill lol

I'll let people have their Gnasher duels if they want to. I respect them just like I respect chainsaw duels. But this...we were on hotel and they were having what seemed like organized duels at the pistol spawn. Whoever wasn't dueling was standing right outside the bench that is around to pistol spawn, to lock in the duelers.

I played a few ranked matches today for the first time in forever!! I think I only played like 5 or 6 matches, but every match was a full team (mine) on a full team. I saw a few people quit though... one time an entire team quit! Anyway ranked is kinda fun, but I couldn't do it all the time. My team definitely took every match super seriously, which is good, but I definitely can't do that for hours on end

Ranked overall does seem harder though. The people we were going against were harder than people you'd find in QM and I'd try to avoid my teammates if they weren't my teammates... kinda scary

Perhaps I should rephrase that. Most people wouldn't make any effort to revive themselves.

Or maybe that is absolutely the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. If people want to Gnasher battle, send an invite and go 1v1. The point of the game is to win, and if I'm playing and see my teammate going against the enemy, I'm going to join in. Period.

I don't think a player recovers at all if he is crawling. That's the trade-off: crawl and hope to get to a teammate that can help, or stay still and revive yourself.

Because it's ranked. People want to win... So they get a team together to play. Seems about right, never understood why people get some mardy about stacked teams. People want to play together, thats the beauty of online gaming. You can play with your friends together in a team.

OP sounds lucky if you ask me. My ranked experieneces are few because i have a horrible experience everytime i join one. My first time everyone was using SO and Retro. I was surprised mainly because that's a 180 from what i thought it would be. Every time other than that I have played stacked teams of the most extreame "tryhards" i've ever seen. There were no gambles taken, no pushes, nothing. It was all calculated and about max survival, guys would'nt even push a player that they 4 pointed because they didn't have advantage or just seemed to worried about what was around the corner. It was a little slow for me. And i know that hows a lot of people play it and that's fine, just not my style. One time i joined a ranked game and the other team was so good it didn't make sense. That was no fun at all. Guess the best way to put it is the monkey pic on this thread.

Allow me to re-phrase:The point of games in general is to have fun, but the objective is to win. If you can have fun while losing, then you are either very laid-back, or the game is absolutely amazing.

Either way, more power to you.

My point was simply that I'm not going to obey some absurd unwritten rule and risk losing simply because some people are concerned about imaginary honor in a make-believe world.

In my experience, crawling revives me just as fast as a stationary revive.

The gnasher is op even though it has some skill to it, an active is a guaranteed.gib from double the normal distance. But it is still honorable compared to the SOS lol.

Every time I play ranked, most of what I see are Hammerbursts and Gnashers. It was different because I rarely saw that loadout in QM, and it's always been my loadout.

Btw, what exactly is a tryhard? It seems to be a term that gets thrown around very liberally, and it's meaning has been skewed. I used to know what it meant, but I'm curious if the definition has changed.

Tryhard : The name you call someone if you can't take a loss.

Nah, it's just people who play competitively to me. But it's ranked, expect to see "tryhards".

Me? I don't play the waiting game, I go in there even if I don't have the advantage.

I was under the impression that tapping A (which I do while crawling) got you up quicker.

I have no time for Gnasher duels. Do them in private. I play to win, more often than not. If that means interrupting one, so be it.

I can have fun while losing! Tis true that I'm very laid back, that's why I never really had a problem when two people would have a duel, Gnasher or chainsaw. People always forget about the chainsaw...In my OP, I said I respected duels. "Respect" is a strong word, I simply didn't mind.
I've always questioned honor in a video game, and you articulated the problem with it perfectly.

I'm going to go ahead and put this quote in my sig now.
