Hey really great content!
Am trying the 3Dmax exporter following the video tutorial steps, I must be doing something wrong, only get the "failed to parse message" window in the editor, the log also mentions.
Error: Call to KFbxImporter::Initialize() failed.
Log: Error returned: Corrupted or invalid file.
Am using UDKInstall-2012-03-BETA, 3DMax 2010 with the FBX plug-in 2012.2, specifying the recommended settings for the export; triangulate, tangents & binormals, smoothing groups doesn't fix the problem.
The object has been converted to a an EditableMesh and I added two UV channels as described, but even though the same error messages are displayed. Someone help me please![]()
Hmm, try the trial of max 2012, it is what this was done on, I'm not sure if UDK supports the old FBX Exporter of Max2010...

Thanks, will try so, but if i understand correctly, the exporter version for the FBX format should be compatible among 3dMax versions, could someone point out this is correct or refer to the documentation specifying it? Otherwise don't understand why there is a bunch of same FBX plug-ins for each different 3DMax. S:
From the UDN
IMPORTANT: As of September 2011 the UE3 FBX import pipeline uses FBX 2012. Using a different version during export may result in incompatibilities.

Am using UDKInstall-2012-03-BETA, 3DMax 2010 with the FBX plug-in 2012.2Yeah, that's why I installed the FBX 2012 version in the first place, but where talking about the 3dMax version compatibility, couldn't find any info about an specific version of 3DMax, as far as i can understand, a 3DMax 2012 vs a 2010 should work good having the FBX 2012 plug-in version, but i got the problems described. It will take me a while to download the trial version of 2012 to test this, it would be easier if a doc or someone can guide us a bit more with this problem...IMPORTANT: As of September 2011 the UE3 FBX import pipeline uses FBX 2012. Using a different version during export may result in incompatibilities.
Try redownloading and reinstalling the FBX Plugin.

notNullGothik...FBX 2012 version supports 3dsmax 2010. Iam using 3dsmax 2010 64-bit with FBX 2012.1 Plugin. Please try the following steps and let us know:
1: Un-install all Max 2010 plugins (if any) including FBX Plugin
2: Un-install Max 2010
3: Remove everything from this folder: C:\Users\<YOUR USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2010 - 64bit\enu
4: Re-Install 3dsmax 2010
5: When installation finishes run Max with admin rights (I've read that Autodesk highly recommends to run 3dsmax before installing any plugins.)
6: Close Max and install FBX 2012.1 plugin

After FBX installation is complete run max and export your mesh into UDK. It should work![]()

Thank you ryanjon2040, I will let you know as soon as i get back to home.
Am suspecting also on the FBX 2012.1 version, I have the 2012.2....
Ok, this is really weird.
I followed all steps ryanjon2040 listed. Also tested exporting from a 3DMax 2012 version, but am getting the same error message. But the good news is that, I don't think this is a problem related to the 3DMax version or FBX version, this is a problem with my computer and the UDK. The exported models either from the 3DMax 2010 or 2012 version, load flawlessly in other computer which has installed exactly the same UDK version, UDKInstall-2012-03-BETA, the FBX is OK!
I tried upgrading to the latest UDK in my PC, the May one, same problem. Should I post all the specs of my PC or maybe open another thread... this is so strange. S:
Thanks for all the help anyway!
If you can post the FBX log then maybe someone here can help you out. You can find the log in: My Documents\3dsMax\FBX\<Max version>\Logs

FBX 2012.1 with 3dMax2010 32 or 64 bits the log located here MyDocuments\3dsMax\FBX\Logs\2012.1\, it only contains the following line, not very helpful.
UDKInstall-2012-05-BETA, when loading the above FBX file an error window pops up failed to parse message", the log displays:Code:2012-05-23 16:00:03: LOG: Export: MyDocuments\test.FBX
This same file imported using same UDK version in other computer works like a charm. And as I said I think the exporter is working fine, it's the import to UDK what failsCode:Error: Call to KFbxImporter::Initialize() failed. Log: Error returned: Corrupted or invalid file.. I removed all UDK versions and reinstalled the latest one, it complaint about redistributables so I run in directly (UE3Redist.exe) and now it works! Amazing.
Thanks for all your time.
