Judi Dench is a great actress, but she's confined herself to playing desk roles recently. Dench is older, not in great shape, and was never known for the physical roles. An actress like Sigourney Weaver is far more plausible, as the role of Bernie would require a hell of a lot more energy. For a movie like Gears, you'd want a far more physical actress who wouldn't need a stunt double for every scene where she's behind a desk.

youre right, i hadnt considered the "physical" neccesity of the role, i had only considered the emotional part of it. bernie isnt very active in the books (as compared to the other gears) due to her being a sniper and an older woman, but she still has some active requirements. sigourney might fit well

And while The Rock as Dom is kinda silly, I think some of the others are literally just terrifying. Bruce Willis is a good actor, but he's brought in to play Bruce Willis. Nicholas Cage's only redeeming quality the past decade has been Big Daddy in Kick-Ass, and even in that, it was a somewhat campy role. Sean William Scott is just a downright hilariously bad decision, though.

this film was having buget issues, so it'll more than likely get unknown/lesser known actors, not these A-listers a lot of people are choosing
