Default Materials Noob Here! Need Help Please!

    Hi all,

I'm a complete materials noob, I can add texture, specular and normal maps, but that's about it. I really desperately need a very basic glass material for wine bottles, and a glass. Just an opaque, with a maybe a slight reflection will do, it doesn't have to be amazing. Can anyone show me how I might do that?

    Here's what I mean

    Thanks!

The way I understand that is, you plug a reflection vector into a vector transform (which I can't seem to find...) into a texture sample (in my case would be a dark red) into the emissive channel, and this would create a reflective dark red?

The texture sample is a cubemap, find one in the content browser by typing cubemap and that would be the texture sample. you multiply the texture sample by a constant 3 and just make it red.

    Its all explained there :P

Right, I think I have what you have. I presume I'm going to need to make a cubemap for my environment then? It's OK as it is but it needs an a opacity like glass.

Thanks for the help. Really useful, I appreciate it.

You probably don't need a cube map of the level since it's such a small prop. Just use that one. And to get the transparency, you need to change that "1" that's plugged into opacity to a smaller number like TheAgent did (0.8 seemed fine on his.) 1 means no transparency. 0 means complete transparency. You want a value in between there. The lower you go, the more transparent it will be.
