Uh, you guys....he's not exactly joking....fire has 3 conponents....wind (or oxygen), heat (fire), and fuel (stuck on that). I believe him

Based on my gem forging, if you were to get a light defense gem through forging, it would need to be three light gems. I'm not even sure that would work, as I'm pretty sure you can't forge a defense gem.

Yes, and without utilizing some kind of logic (rainbow colors, solar fusion, types of defense gems, hints) the number of combinations this vague recipe can take is ginormous, and the only reason I am posting here, is to try to figure out if there's some kind of logic. That's the challenge for me, not trying endless combinations. For instance, what I suggested about using the 3 other continuous damage defense gems to forge the 4th (Light), would have made sense, but sadly, it did not pan out.

I am no expert in statistics, but 8 * 7 * 6 combinations (assuming two slots not same color) = 336
Then you need to try these 336 combinations in each of 3 final slots: 336 * 336 * 336 = 37,933,056

The number is much smaller if one assumes that colors in 2nd and 3rd final slot are all different from those used in earlier slots: 8 * 7 * 6 * 5 * 4 * 3 * 2 * 1 = 40,320

However, the formula does not define the last of the 3 final gems, and if one assumes it can be any of the possible gems in the game, one can replace the '2 * 1' above with <n>, where <n> is # of gems. I have no idea what this number is, but if it's 50, then we are back up to 1,008,000 combinations.
