Friend Got Reset...

I warned him to make a backup many times but it seems he never did. He told me in party chat today that he had been reset again at level 89. My question is if he has played on my xbox by recovering his GT about a month ago, can he upload his data from my Xbox? How exactly can i go about doing that... THX in advance, I Hope he doesn't have to suffer this again.

So he had been previously reset, you told him how to make a backup, and he still didn't do it? I try to make one either once a week, or after I do something I don't want to have to do again.

Have you warned him of the main causes of resets? Quitting when the game is loading, uploading stats etc. etc.

Yeah i warned him of those after his first reset back in December. He said he was careful and always went to the dashboard to sign off gears. But he was still to negligent to make a backup on the cloud? Probably thinking it wouldn't happen again to him. First time he was level 77.

Considering i had to be reset a grand total of 4 times in order to search out answers on the Epic Forums i really can't blame him that much.

i've had 5 people on my friends list get a reset one guy had a backup and was saved and as far as i know none of them cheat/boost
but they are on gears 3 most of the time not quite 24/7

i only play private online horde, private versus and the events via live with friends/bots and do campaign online/ mix of public and private beasts

and i have a cloud backup.....

You are aware this exact issue plagues basically every other game company and not just Epic right?
Happens in CoD games, happens in Mass Effect, happens in both Batman Arkham games, happened to me in Monday Night Combat - can keep listing more and more games which have reset issues -- and guess what? They all still happen in them. People are getting resets (by glitches, not for hacking) in MW3 -- many games back; still exists today. Mass Effect 1 had it (especially on PC) - happened to some in 3. Was in Arkham Aslyum - I know TWO who had their stats reset in City.

Data is always sensitive and prone to corruption. All it takes is a single byte to be off and the entire file is corrupted (as they are generally encrypted).

So by your "Hey Epic, ya look like fools....Guess ya should fix it" logic:
I guess basically every gaming company look like fools.
I guess Microsoft look like fools as files get corrupted all the time in Windows
I guess Apple look like fools as data on their operating systems also too get corrupted.
I guess everyone involved in the various Linux variants are looking like fools - they too get corruptions
Nintendo too; had countless data corruptions on their older gen systems (memory cards) and even some on my Wii.
Sony too; had corruptions on various gamesaves on PS1,2,3,PSP

This issue is not caused by corruption, its caused when a "save load code" file or something similar which is being overwritten because of improper registration. That information comes directly from a game designer. Corruption agreed can happen for a number of reasons but this is not why this error is predominantly taking place.

I'm aware that other games have had issues like these, but this issue has been apparent from Gears 2 with no fix's and again no information offered and I wasn't referring to any other game at any other time in any other platform.

There are many posts on this issue and 250,000 hits in Google alone and even if its only 10 percent of said hits its still a large number. A large number that Xbox Live is aware of and has been waiting for Epic to offer a patch on since the release of Gears 3. There are many posts on more than one aspect of the topic referring to "Stat Reset in Gears 2 and 3". So if say 25k machines have file corruption one would think that needs to be properly addressed because something is obviously broken. If its not the game, then it's the gaming platform. Microsoft is giving every impression that its the game and they have stated that they are "still" waiting for a patch from EPIC.

Corruptions like the ones your stating, within one style of platform, at this rate would leave one to think that there was a problem within the platform and lead to recalls of said platform, repairs or refunds. Offering a game which has numerous main line faults and inferior programming which causes problems like this one is just poor workmanship and requires the same type of response as you should expect from any offered product in the marketplace which falls well below acceptable quality standards. There are now more than a handful of reasons for this "Stat Reset" that have been listed in this forum more than once. My first listing on the topic goes back to Gears 2 after release. When I was reset I found out that many others were too and no one was doing anything about it.

For me it happened after I played with friends on Gears 1 multiplayer. Everything was fine until I went into play the multi in Gears 2 that was the only reason for it as some of my stats in "The War Journal" stayed and some did not. If the file was corrupt there would be nothing there. There was nothing wrong with my system, it was reviewed.

No one I know who has this problem has ever received an acceptable answer from Microsoft, Xbox Live, Epic or Microsoft Games Studios as to why this happens or if they intend to resolve it. It would appear that they have chosen not to. I have so far never seen anything posted in these forums or Microsoft's Forums or Xbox Live Forums that have ever offered any form of fair resolution in the past year and a half .

I have been in the computer field for 30 years and yes "You look like a fool" when you choose not to respect and acknowledge your clientele fairly especially when the number becomes so large. Stuffing your head in the sand and hoping that a problem will go away isn't a very good method of dealing with problems nor a good way to respond to loyal customers.

Any one reading this one post should realize that it is a summation of about 60 pages that have evolved in the past 1.5 years involving a massive number of people and owners of Xbox's.

The fact that it's one issue for Epic and Microsoft Game Studios or Xbox Live is very interesting don't you think? If your dealing with a problem this way what does it say about you or your company?

The above notations signifies a serious issue, one that should not go on ignored don't you think?

Also, I have 50 games for Xbox none of which has had an error like this.
I have about 15 for PC as above none has had this type of issue. Perhaps I have been lucky.
I have worked for about 30 years in the field of computers and never had corruption like your describing within the windows operating environment without reason, I have had hard drives fail, I have had viruses damage files, I have had driver failure and such, but I have never left a client wanting for a resolution or a fair and proper explanation. Apple, Great for Music Studio work and Applied Graphics but in business there aren't to many applications that will cover what Microsoft covers. I currenty have 30 business clients and 2 music studios with full windows 7 64 bit servers running specific applied software and they love it with 3 years running and no client has had data corruption. Linux certainly hasn't evolved into the gaming field and I have never had nor do I know of anyone who has had a significant Nintendo issue that hasn't been addressed. As for the Wii, well its interesting that they are repairing a system that is 6months out of warranty for free.

IF YOU HAVE JUST BEEN RESET AND DON'T HAVE A BACKUP:

If you have just discovered that you are reset to level 1 and you don't have a backup, then unfortunately it is most likely that your data will be already gone. However, you can try deleting your "player data" file from your Gears of War 3 save file, and recovering your gamertag to see if your data comes back. This only works for a VERY small amount of people. The only other way you could recover your data is if you have played Gears 3 on another console. If so, then there should be another player data file on there that you could use to replace your corrupted one.

If that is not the case then the entry should be omitted.
No instructions on how to do it that I could find.
