Default Trick to cut time on Gem Forge

I don't know if anyone else has discovered this yet, but I haven't seen it posted, so I'll mention it here.

I started a sorta long gem forge towards the end of a rebirth (4 years game time), and ran out of money to speed things along, so I decided to let it sit. When I started that next rebirth, I noticed that it said it was 3 years later. On a hunch, I checked my gems again and it said only 1 year remained. Looks like the time it says happens between rebirths actually counts toward the gem forge time!

I did this today too just before the Thane battle, started forging a 2.5 year gem and immediately finished after the new RB (3 years).

I tried to do same thing and didn't start it (since it said 1 month, which is 30 minutes?) cuz I didn't understand what it meant. Does it mean how long it takes to merge 3 gems to become 1 new gem?

It's only really worth doing this if you're planning to "die" after fighting a Deathless. If you're just going through to harvest large chests and committing suicide on a previously unlocked ward, then the time passed will only be 6 months, not 2-3 years.

Well if we are planning to stay on the same NG+ we have to die against the deathless anyway. So it's a good way to forge gems faster especially those large ones that take 20 years.

Yeah I'm currently trying to use this on a 17 year, 7 month gem. Down to 8 years, 2 months :P
It does seem like a good way to save loads of money though if you're always accelerating your gem forges, especially in the higher tier gems. Even if you just do it once and get 3 years off, you just saved yourself like $72,000. And then if you're really just interested in forging gems, you can just best your way to a deathless quickly every rebirth, die, and repeat til the gem is finished.

On a slightly related note, does anyone know what happens if you beat GK while having a gem forge in progress? Would you start the next game with the gem finished or just with the additional time from the first rebirth tacked on?

I did do this. I can't remember about the time...I feel like it doesn't increment at all into the next NG+, but the gem you get at the end will be a 1st rebirth level gem, i.e. worthless. I had three pretty good gems cooking, and I got like a Magic +2 gem or something. Although, if you've decided to move to the next NG+, it's not like you would be using that uber-gem anyway.

normally you will get 6 months time frame for beating the small boss. 3 years are for the big boss. I normally start my forging at beginning for the rebirth or near at the end when I am about to get killed or kill the boss. This way, by the time you get killed for putting your hand into that hole, your new gem will be available on your next rebirth.

6 months is standard unless you die to a boss as previously said. As far as I can see, dieing to any version of Thane still only equates to 6 months towards gem forging.

I pay for the smaller ones and wait until the gem forge is around 1year + then I leave them as it starts to get a bit more expensive and eats into my profits!

I'm still playing OG, and I did just experiment with this. After you defeat GK and go back to Saydhi's Palace, it cuts 5 years off your forging! I expect it will cut more after I beat Saydhi and get back to the VoT, too.
