    Default Aggressive or Defensive

Still trying to improve my Gears 3 game, and it isn't really getting anywhere. I still lose 90% of Gnasher "fights". Whether my bullets turn to rubber, I get one shotted far past gib range or I just plain lose.

How the hell do you play this game? If I rush in with my Gnasher I get BSed, lose or get gang banged.
If I sit back with lancer they either spawn behind me or sneak up behind me.

When I rush someone around a corner, I die.
When I wait for someone around a corner, I die.

    What do I do?

When you're playing support, be aware of your surrondings. Don't just aim your Lancer at one spot the entire game and expect to do good; you're obviously gonna get flanked or have their team spawn behind you. On Checkout, sit on plat (Ink/Fire spawn) and give your team support. Again, don't be tunnel visioned. On Thrashball, stay on Mulcher spawn. Watch out for people at the sides, they can down and kill you instantly.

So, the biggest tips I can give if you're playing support is 1) Be aware of your surrondings 2) Don't stay close to spawn. Find a high vantage point around the middle of the map and proceed to do your job.

Don't rush around corners blindly if you know someone is there. Always, and I repeat ALWAYS go wide with an Active Lancer when going around a corner. Sticking close to the wall with a Shotgun will get you killed. Having a smoke grenade will help.

How are you playing agreesive? Are you flat out rushing the enemies? If you are, don't. Try to stick with your team. Don't rush a room when the entire enemy team is in there, you will die.

I wouldn't advise being an agreesive shotgun player, though. IMO, this game punishes Rambo type players because of the insane Rifle damage.

You can be an aggressive shotgun player and do well, but it takes a lot of practice and you have to know when to push and when to wait for an opening. Flanking is important. It's much easier to kill someone when you can get close to them without them seeing you. I agree that it's not a good idea for someone that's struggling with the game though.

Yes. But if you're facing a skilled team, you're going to get wrecked if you just try to use your Gnasher. But if you're facing a team that's not so great, then yeah, go ahead and be Rambo.

But, in my opinion, playing a more defensive/support type style is more consistent. Sure you won't be racking up all the kills, but it feels good to have 3 kills with 1,200 points

Just had two really good games going hard with Gnasher actives. Seriously, actives make everyone into your b*tch. Thanks for the tips.

by far one of the most level headed post in terms of how to play this game in a long while. play the game like this guy n your kills will start to out weigh your deaths.
Been Playing Gears of War since E-day but I must confess , I dont have seriously for Gears 1 or 2 and looking at the requirements to get it in Gears 3? yea wont be doin that either.....

    General tips:
Play with at least 2 other people if you can. If you don't have friends who play, post on the forums and get adding some people, communication is vital.
It's better to have headphones so you can hear people sneaking up on you. A decent gaming headset isn't that expensive.
Play lots of quick KOTH and always be trying to break the ring to get used to gnasher vs gnasher. You might get 30-50 kills in a game of KOTH compared to 5-15 in TDM.

Another thing -- Use right hand advantage, well, to your advantage. Incase you don't know what that is, you can watch this video.

I also want to add to this.

If you're shooting left when in cover, if you pull out while hard aiming, you'll still be aiming at the left side.

This pretty much hits the nail on the head. Another tip is try to keep fresh actives in your Lancer at ALL times. Fire 3-6 shots while coming out of spawn and pop the active before the initial firefight. The first few bullets can get someone full red very quick or at least force them to put their head down before you. Also don't forget to spot, i find not enough players do so.

This may or may not be your problem, but I think this is common if you've played a lot of campaign and are pretty new to multiplayer...

The trick is not to be 'in cover' waiting for them.

You get into cover then pull out of cover. This keeps you nice and mobile. Take advantage of your 3rd person perspective (you can see them coming, they cant see you) pop out and pop their head off. Teach 'em for not checking their corners.
