Does Gears 3 still 'do it for you?'

Having read these forums for quite a while now and with my own frustrations on connections and servers, I personally feel that the 'fun' element of the game has now gone. I am contemplating taking a break from the game as most sessions end with me being utterly frustrated with the game, rather than happy to have played a few hours on it.

With numerous topics/threads on this forum about the issues the game has, whether it be lag issues, server issues, OP weapon issues, map glitches, weapon pick up issues, matchmaking issues, DLC content issues (This forum seems to get them all)

The question is:

Are you still enjoying playing Gears 3 and where do you find enjoyment in the game?

That feeling while playing the beta is long gone now. I seriously miss it. The ink stun, the flame nade killing you when rolling away, gnasher shooting H20 that has the color red, and that supermanned powered gun retro.

No one stays till wave 20 in Horde. Beast needs variety. And Where are all the locust MP characters?

To anyone that thinks that Gears 3 is annoying. I honestly say this from personal experience. Play Gears 2 again. Not for an hour or 15 minutes. Play it for a day. I played Guardian for 1 day and then went back onto Gears 3. My god, it is the diffrence between Gyrados and Magikarp. So many issues on Gears 2. The reason you find the Gears 3 issue so bad is because a lot of people expect it to be issue free or perfect. It is far improved from Gears 2 and since that is the predecessor it should be compared accordingly. It still has issues, but if you want it to be perfect than that is not likely.

Yes. I get the "feeling" more often at certain times in Guardian and Beast matches. Horde pissed me off all weekend but usually I love playing it too.

Btw the "feeling" is usually accompanied by a cry of "This is the best game in the flooking world ever!"

nah i didn't expect everything to be perfect. i just didn't expect the game to be designed for rifles with massive maps, ott stopping power that stops you running away, etc.

Epic are far too stubborn regarding the stopping power and Retro issues. to read that when they removed SP it made "no difference" to the killing power of rifles, yet they still decided to put SP back, just tells me everything i need to know...

The first two Gears games were far more like CoD than this. CoD is fast paced and action packed. Gears 1 and 2 were fast paced and action packed.

Gears 3 is more of an actual tactical shooter that offers more than self satisfaction. It is a breeding ground for a wide array of tactics, subtle movements and exquisite explosions. It resembles more of a BF type of gameplay were if you stray from cover for a second you literally die in less than a second.

In my opinion the idea and how Gears plays now is absolutely fantastic. Hopefully the stragglers that miss the old days(not directed at you personally) will simply go and play the older games in the same way that Halo 2-3 fans play that over Reach.

Gears should evolve in this manner in my opinion and hopefully by the next installment, bigger maps, more weapons and more concepts can be developed.

So, many of the issues derive from frustration of the strategies, not necessarily from gnasher strength or whatever. Every person with a gnasher has the same amount of firepower, etc. It's not like the game is unbalanced. I agree the gameplay has a few issues, but tell me a game that doesn't have some issues? The game is still a blast to me. I love it. I find that when I get frustrated with the game...it's because I did something wrong...not because the game wronged me or my opponents did something cheap to beat me. I think so much of the community blames Epic for issues they have, but a lot of the issues derive from a lack of skill or lack of adapting. Most of the community that complains were hardcore Gears 2 players who can't seem to adapt. My solution to that group of ppl....go find a flawless game and let me know when you find it.

I completed agree the community is heard but its a different game I love it but hate the serious achievement it ruined the game for me

Hell yes it does. No other game provides that feeling of just pure Godhood when youre doing well and the feeling of pure garbage when its not your day.

I just wish Ranked was still alive I only left because I was so pissed off that all the Ranked players had left.

I have a love/hate feeling about GOW3 myself. If I play mindlessly I enjoy it, if I play to win I want to break the disc. I guess my hate for the game stems from playing MP.

this game is meh. I agree with the guy who mentioned the big maps. the rifles, stopping power, infinite amount of power weapons.... it just adds to a noob friendly version of gears, a main stream version, that some people enjoy while others are reminiscent about the old days.

its saddening but gears 3 is just about the only video game I play. I love gears too much to give up on it despite the aspects of it that I don't like. everything that is truly unique will find its way to conformity. thats life.

this is my favorite shooting game of all time and the way I combat the problems with the game is I just don't play everyday. I make it a point to take breaks so I don't get bored of the game or frusterated.

Well it is the only game I have so for me the boring factor doesn't matter because it's not like I can just throw in another game lol. I plan to take a break after I re-up for the last time, I am currently 92

I love gears. I go and play other games, major titles, critically acclaimed multiplayers, and so on but I always always come 'home' to gears. there's nothing like it or even close

Amen brother! Gears in my opinion is even better than other games when it comes to inconsistency or problems. This game is polished very nicely all but for a couple problems. I agree that people think there is problems because of mistakes they make, not because of things being overpowered or unbalanced. This is coming from a Gears veteran. My advice is to make adjustments to your game because gears 3 is different than gears 1 and 2. In the end, if you are more skilled it will pay off. All it takes is common sense when you're playing.

You should play some lower level games sometime. Epic does an amazing job for this community. My friends and I used to play a mech/hound game called Chromehounds online. It was so much fun! We could play that thing for hours. However, it was a lower populated game (probably a few thousand were on at any given time) and there were also issues with some of the gameplay connections. Everyone got so unappreciative and "took a break from it for a while" and "got tired of the connections" and w/e....and the producer stopped hosting the servers. That game is officially DEAD. Once the servers went offline, Chromehounds lost 95% of it's population-guaranteed. You think Epic won't find another community to please? This game is very well rounded. It's very apparent to me that a LOT of programming and time have been put into this game. Epic does something most don't-they care! But, if all the community does is spit at the game and tell the producers how poorly something is...they could drop this community. Remember this, we need them....not the other way around.

Yes Gears 3 is still my favorite game out there. I tried out MW3, but it isn't really fun. But it showed me, that no matter what issues it has, Gears 3 is a very good game.

It's still fun. I just wish some things were changed (ink stun, mantle, characters being muted). It's the little things we wanted that made the difference, and they seem to have been ignored for shiny new maps and re-skinned MP characters.

I put Gears 3 down for a few days to try out the Ghost Recon Future Soldier Beta which is fun but not enough to hold my interest over a long period of time. FS is super tactical and requires patience, Gears 3 does as well but not nearly as much. Depends on the day since it feels Gears likes to pick favorites.

But I still turn on the game every day and play. Heck, I've dedicated a lot of time on the forums, started quite a lot of threads on different elements of the game.
I don't see myself quitting anytime soon.

just discovered campaing/arcade again for me .... while i was somewhat disappointed the very fisrt time i rushed through gears campaign .. i am now enjoying it to explore it again on Arcade .. still to play Horde and Beast on the FR & FoN Maps

I love the game and have been a Gearhead since 1. Please fix it! You are right it is irritating. One time a buddy and I played Gears 2 (lag and all) for 26 hours straight!!! There is NO WAY I would play Gears 3 that long. I love the game but it needs some fixing, it is still my fave.

Gears 3 is still easily my favorite multiplayer game. It can definitely be frustrating at times, but overall I usually have a lot of fun playing it.

I do really like the Ghost Recon beta, but it can only hold my attention for so long. I'm more interested in campaign and co-op modes on that game.

I know it's cheap and generally not fair to compare one game's issues to another, but in the grand scheme of things, Gears has it way better than most others out there.
