    Default Online mapping feature

Sly. and me had the idea for an online mapping feature that enables more than one individuum to work on a map at the same time.
Probably something for UT4, if it is ever to exist.

What do you think about this?

It would be best if such a file would be saved in a cloud (temporary) and updated automatically everytime the "team" would work on said map and in the end, if labeled as finished, it would be saved on every mapper's PC or on one mapper's PC - or automatically uploaded to an (in)official map site - whatever one would prefer.

It would give players plenty of possibilities, one of them being the possibility to create one gigantic map for a game with a variety of themes: Cities, landscapes, underwater stations, castles, whatever, it would speed up the process of creating such a huge map in a team and there would be no such thing as a "mess" of files and outdated files.

Of course it will probably be impossible to create such a thing, there are many difficulties and one would have to think about a lot of stuff, for example, what if a mapper works alone on the map and the other suddenly decides to join the fun?

It sounds like an awesome idea to me!

I don't know that game but according to wikipedia, it should be somewhat similar to what we imagined.

There's always the "old" way of doing it to. You could set up a network drive and always save to that drive. A lot of businesses do their work that way.

A french community of mappers tried this kind of idea (4 or 3 years ago).
The name of this projet was "tour de babel" or (babel tower in english).
In fact, each mapper had the file during a short time (around 2 weeks) and made one level of the tower.
Each tower had a different style.
The idea is good. but it's very difficult to manage the project.

The problem is also the optimisation of the map. The fps was very unstable.

    Your idea sound good.
Mb the project need one manager or a team of manager. Otherwise, the idea 'll fail.
Just to define the style of the map and share the work between the differnt mapper, ....
