Yeah I didn't see the reply, I am mistaken then. I believe it's the comment about taking away money from the team? I actually rather have the decoy take some money by killing stuff as then he is worth your $10.000. Right now he is a $10.000 bullet sponge and you are probably better off buying the silverback upgrade for that money.

While he does need a upgrade, he doesn't have to be a god at using a rifle so he doesn't sweep the whole room if he just glanced at the enemies.

I would love to see the /Mortar/Vulcan/Sniper Onyx Guards from the Command Center stay around longer If you pay more money.(I.E after the Assist they Respawn in an accessible part of the map and run around with their Sniper or Gnasher(Gnasher for the Vulcan Onyx Guards) until they die.

Yeah, this is pretty much unanimous from everyone and I also agree. The cost of the onyx guard decoy and the pathetic AI causing it to die almost instantaneously is not worth it. There should be an upgrade or a fix.

You bought an onyx guard, and when the mauler comes close he sprays with the rifle? If the onyx guard only has a shotgun he'll be much more usefull. Just take a look at the bots in MP...they dont change their weapon when they need to, when you come in close they probably have their lancer or smoke out. Dont change the onyx guard in horde!

I have thought about it, that's why I created the thread. I still believe he needs a change simply because people also like to play horde alone. Just for the sake of argument, what's to stop you from saving the onyx guard when a mauler or any other enemy comes closer to him. You have all the tools (Super Reload, Infinite Ammo, frags, etc.). Not everyone plays with friends every time they play. A $10,000 onyx guard in horde is an absolute waste, he needs a change.

Both are hard to use in any situation as the SO requires using stealth or at least out maneuvering while the Gnasher forces people to aim good while strafing/wall bouncing. All I know is the SO does make people wall camp & I hate that but the Gnasher whores from Gears 2/1 just pre-active. So yeah both have issues.

It was a shocker but like what everyone says the whole Onyx Decoy issue could be fixed if he stayed next to allies & had some assault rifle to use. I wouldn't mind being forced to re-pay for him if he got destroyed but only if they made it so he doesn't blow up instantly when he's not even down.

The onyx guard in it' scurrent state is completely worthless, and way too expensive. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but once he dies (and he will, probably quickly) you have to completely rebuild? So how many thousands are you spending just to take a little heat off of you, for a short amount of time? Why not just use the less expensive decoy? After I got the command pack, I of course had to see for myself what the new upgrades do, and I used an onyx guard once. Thousands of dollars, for him to run with a gnasher and die right away.

I almost never use decoys, but if an onyx guard was actually useful, I would maybe consider it. I would like to see a way that you can "activate" the guard, similar to the way the command center works... you build the center, use it when you need it. I would like to see the same thing with this, would actually make him useful. You set up your guards, start to get over-run, hit the button, and bam, out comes your backup. Or, what if you could "spot" a location for him. So when the onyx guard is activated, you can say set him up near a doorway, or behind cover by using the spot feature.

I think that the onyx guard should just be a standard AI that carries a lancer. With this, he have a true teammate. What would be REALLY cool is if they rewrote is programming and made him a long range fighter is stead of that run up to a boomer genius he is..... You could give him commands using your tac com and could even tell him to get into the silverback.....

The decoy was never intended to be a bot team mate. He's there to distract the enemy and nothing more, pretty much act just like the lower level decoys except he's not stationary.

Actually, yes he was, since he also revives. He's just useless in boss waves and at the higher levels 30's to 40's. Pretty effective in the 10's & 20's on Normal.

My mate and I played Raven Down, casual, 3 easy mutators. Wave 10 bought 2 Onyx Gaurds. Both died that wave.

He should spawn like a bot in multiplayer with a full load-out of weapons (Lancer/Hammerburst/Retro, Gnasher/Sawed-off, Smoke/Frag and Snub). He should also be able to pick up dropped weapons and swap them with you. Interactive bots FTW!

Having a full loadout for a decoy, even though I think he should be more active and have a rifle, would be a bit much.

Nice job Dizzy. Even tho we didn't agree on ever point and I voted no. I think a decoy should be a decoy. I applaud you and this thread. You did a great job keeping it on topic and kept the conversation moving forward.

I hope Epic can find a nice middle ground and keep us all happy ( never happen someone always complains ).

Just pleas Epic if changes are made DON"T and I repeat Don't let the decoy anywhere near a smoke grenade. lol
