Well, Gears 2 was basically the same as Gears 1 and everyone loved it. Why? Because it didn't stray too far away from the original theme and mood of the game. And also, this game is about mass human genocide and overall death. They shouldn't have made it so bright and upbringing, even if there is some hope but that's just my opinion.

Did they hate the story? Doubt it. Horde? Doubt it. Multiplayer, I can understand but saying that means they hated the game as a whole, which is definitely not true.

Well, Your saying "everyone" hated Gears 2. Thats irrelevant cause i can think of lots of forumers who loved Gears 2 and others who hated it also that's not counting the players who aren't on the forums.

And i am sure that most people will agree with me on this is that the Campaign was the best in series, Horde mode was also the best in the series cause i can't how many people want classic horde back in Gears 3 and multiplayer had lag, bad hit detection, host advantage and major glitches but that was already present in Gears 1 so most players could deal with it.

So to say "Everyone hated Gears 2" is Just beside the point. I loved it, You hated it. Everybody has their own opinion on the game.

The campaign was definitely better than Gears 3's.

I know the brightness reflects the 'new hope' and what not, but I don't see how in the space between the second and third game, the COG have suddenly all chirped up. Gears 1 was almost like a horror game at times, and it was brilliant.

gears 1 - very dark, tighter shooter, seemed like a horror movie feel
gears 2 - huge battles, more enemies, seemed like a big budget hollywood movie
gears 3 - much lighter, massive areas (4 player co-op) amazing campaign but nothing like the 1st 2 games

Again, the colors suited it nicely, especially during the romp through the hive .. bleek but somewhat colorful.

Gears 3: Turmoil and Victory.

Definitely a lot less bloodlust in G3.

I'll always remember when you first encounter a beserker, because that poor COG Gear ran around the corner then got mauled to death.
Or when you come across the wretches in Act 3 and you get a little cutscene of them ripping everyone apart.

G3 has the scientists strung up on a tree, but it's bright....really gets rid of the shock factor.

I would like to have more blood and gore in this as well. I was playing gears 1 campaign the other day went for the chainsaw kill blood spurting everywhere and then gears 3 not as much and that is what I miss

The game engines more advanced they are showing it off now. That gritty feel was just poor graphics because if it were more bright the flaws would be VERY evident. I prefer a mix and gears 3 provides just that.
