    Default Thane

So we know he is High Lord of House Ix. But is that all there is to him? There is obviously more to his story. So let's start off with a few theories I have.

    1. First Blood of the Deathless: I believe this means he is the first ever child of a Deathless. He gained his immortality by killing his father/mother, whichever was Deathless. If I'm not mistaken that's how the children become immortal. It's been a while since I read Awakening.

    2. High Lord of House Ix: If Deathless usually don't have children, why would then have a house. Usually house refers to the family name. Such as the House of Wettin. There are other examples of this. Anyway, I think that House Ix is the Castle the Vault of Tears is located.

    3. His name: He is named Thane. Thegn, or Thane, is a titled given to people.

    4. This isn't really a theory but I wanted to know what you thought. I was looking through the .ipa of Infinity Blade. I noticed a file that had the name Thane on it. When I opened it up in Gildor's umodel I noticed it was the Dark Knight. The one that you fight right before Raidriar. I thought it was neat. I don't know if they developed Thane's character from that or it is just a title. I highly doubt there is a link between the two. However, it would be neat if The Dark Knight was a Deathless.

So what are your thoughts? Sorry if anything I wrote was to difficult to understand. Also sorry for any misspellings or false info. If you see any please let me know so I can correct it. Also, apologies if any of this has been posted before. I couldn't find anything while searching. Thane is probably my most favorite character despite him not being much of a challenge.

BRAIN, we have just recently been discussing the 9 chairs at the top of the table, so, good timing, Thane is discussed in these, so you can check that out,, Here are my thoughts

    1. Agreed that he is not the First Deathless, Sanderson wants the player to think that, but the word OF, changes everything, and yes, my guess is that he is the first child of a deathless that killed his father to gain his immortality. (ISA explained that Deathless do not have children, as children can steal the immoratality and when the deathless first came to be, they slaughtered all of their family members) I'll bet Thane stole the immoratality before the deathless even realized it was possible.

    2. the recent thread about the 9 chairs should answere some questions. I think that Ix, refers to the roman numeral 9, and there are 9 chairs on the top of the tower, with Thane sitting at the main chair. He seems to be more of a protector, law enforcer type. I think the House of Ix is the title for the 9 deathless that would meet there.

    3. Also his shield is Byzantine, refering to Byzantine empire, his garb is very middle-eastern, not sure how this relates though.

    4. what exactly is the .ipa and how can I find it? not big on the technical aspect, however, I think that his moves are based on the Dark Knight, (no shield for the dark knight though) Very unlikely, as you said, that they are the same, in fact, in IBA, there are numerous DARK KNIGHTS that serve Raidriar, he calls them the Seringal.

Good stuff. Do you think that Thane and Easoluem are related in some way? They look way to similar not to be. No evidence to speculate on that, but would be intersesting.

    Hi Brian!

So Synge and I disagree about the first point. You can read a little more in the thread he was talking about here:

    http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/...p-of-the-tower

I personally think Thane was the first deathless, and that the immortality has more to do with science. But thats just me

Histories on armor are all really interesting-they were a little more in-depth with IB1 than IB2 for these though. But we can still draw inferences. Not sure how the Byzantine shield connects either.

Synge, the .ipa is like the file content of the actual game. Brian's iOS is probably jailbroken, or he accessed it from his computer.

Synge is correct about the dark knights and the seringal.

And since we are talking relations, did anybody else notice that the new God King's armor looks A LOT like the WoS's armor?

I also noticed that the God King's new armor and the WoS's armor are similar. Funny thing is that Raidriar's armor is supposed to be high tech, yet WoS has something just like it. He was wearing the highest tech of the day before it even came out.

I do have a jailbroken iPod, I use it for tweaks like barrel. I got the .ipa from my itunes folder.
As for Thane and the Black Knight's move sets, they don't appear to be very close. I can say that they are both 10ft Sword and Shield enemies.

As for Thane and Easoluem, I think that they were from the same Group or ruling party.

Going along with what I said about House Ix, I think that the residents of the chairs are as follows:
    1. High Lord of the House -Currently Thane
2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 are for the Deathless that are part of the Great Pact.
I don't believe the Blood Sentinels are deathless. I think they are actually champions that seats 2, 3, and 4 volunteered to protect the seals. I don't think the Archivist is a seat holder. Not saying he isn't a deathless.
I think that seat number is equivalent not just to power, but also to status.Thane holds seat 1 because he is "the Shield".

I believe that Raidriar began the House of Ix, not saying he built the castle. He gather close allies. Which does not include Ausar or the Worker, if you can trust the Worker's words. He pretty much says Ausar is Radriar's most ancient enemy.

I would love to type more about this, but I have to get some sleep. I will work on writing up more of my theories. Do you think that this topic should be merged with the 9 chairs thread?

Nah we can just talk about it on this thread to save the confusion.

I think this topic also merits a discussion about the history of the archivist, which has been previously undiscussed. Who is he, and why does he know Ausar? Has he always been a blood sentinel?

I don't think he is deathless. No time passes at the VoT, so that would explain how all of the sentinels have been around for so long.

Hope that cut and paste works, if not, I reposted all the links to the best storyline discussions we have had , I may take some time to read, but I'm sure you'll be interested, alot of great discussion and new ideas

We have talked about the armour, Yes IBA makes it a point to recognize that Raidrair's new armour is the newest technology that Raidrair been waiting to use. What's the point of stressing that? Well, just a few paragraphs later, Raidrair thinks that the Worker trained Siris, (same fighting style). First of all, how can the worker train someone while locked in the vault? Then Raidrair states that he is going to pay the Worker a visit. So, at least, we know that the Worker can communicate with the outside world. Well, at least the deathless.

Anyways, I've mentioned before in previous threads, but the Armour is almost identical. IBA stresses that it is new as a clue as to how the Worker gets the armour (he must have just recently aquired it) Raidrair visited the worker, he had not yet realized that Siris was Ausar, only suspected that Siris may be deathless, Raidrair talks to Worker and they both realize that Siris is Ausar. Of course, enemy of my enemy is my friend, so Raidrair and WoS hatch a plan to trap Siris in the vault. Part of this plan inlcuded WoS getting a new set of Armor from Raidrair.

Raidrair is not trapped in the vault, only Siris/Ausar. I can't wait for Raidrair to wake up and hear that conversation! (BTW, was Raidrair really knocked out for the months it took to get from Saydhi's estated to the Vault??)

So, why would Raidrair agree to put his life on the line, turn over the blade to Siris, then to WoS, who also gets a new set of Armour? I think it was "garfield" thread that pointed out that the blade was actually created as a device to trap QIP, (hence the dungeon in IB1), and not actually able to kill deathless. Reading IBA, everything about the Infinity Blade are just assumptions made by Raidrair. He actually comes up with the whole idea of it needing to be charged, probably to explain why it wasn't working. I think this is true about the blade, as it obviously does this function, AND, the device that WoS is seen holding in his hand, is what actually kills Thane. So this device, is the real power and WoS just told everyone that it was the blade, in order to protect the real god killer.

My point is.. WoS tells this secret to Raidriar to get Raidrair on his side. Now, I think that Raidrair is the good guy, and if Ausar is as bad as IBA is making him out to be, then WoS, is probably a decent guy. Still not enough to convince you?,,,,,,,, Okay, so Raidrair tells the Worker to go to hell, cause "I'm not letting you and your god killing device out of here!".... WoS then says, "Well, Siris thinks that we are old pals, so I'm just going to go along with that and since he thinks your the worst thing on the planet, AND, you know he'll smoke you in a duel, I'll get him to slay your ass, and I'll trap YOUR soul down here!!"

haha, so what would you do if you were Raidriar? Now that he knows that the Blade won't kill Siris/Ausar, he knows that, even if he kills Siris a hundred times, Siris will eventually hunt him down, for the Worker, until he gets the blade and traps Raidrair's soul. Raidrair's only chance to avoid imprisonement is to go along with whatever the Worker says!

    I'll continue about the Archivist......

Archivist-- how great was his voice when you first heard it, not to mention , you think your about to get a bunch of question's answered and all he does is create alot more.

Great question.. Is he deathless? what about Stone Demon and the Goliath exo-pilot.?

No evidence to prove either way, Grant, good point about ISA's statement of time not passing in the Vault. First of all, if it were even true, which ISA doesn't even seem to believe, I thought she was just refering to the actual prison cell, and that it was timeless as a form of torture for the Worker. And remember, the statement is not fact, and actually, seems to be just a story that the deathless have come up with as a way to keep mortal men from trying ot challenge them... However, it would be a great way to explain the Sentinals, and their motivation for sticking around that dirty old castle. (anyways, as the twists go in this book, I'm thinking that this will actually be a true statement)

So regarding their mortality, GK2, WoS, Easoluem, Thane, Archivist and the Stone Demon all wear the same color scheme of Gold and Greyish/Black. Exo-pilot of Goliath does not, kind of explaining his whole line about "caring little about their squabbles". Anyways, they all have some bond, or similar loyalty or faith that would explain the color scheme.

Back to Archivist, He wears the helm similar to ISA's, which was described in IBA as the helm of a deathless, or one that serves a deathless. So that doesn't help answering the question of his mortality. Although, I just thought, that maybe the Archivist and ISA are related in some manner. I'm leaning towards the Archivist being a deathless, mainly because of the way he says, "AUSAR?" just his tone implies shock and that he knows this person. Before dying, Archivist seems to plead with Siris to reconsider, almost a warning, like he is trying to help an old friend that has no idea of what he is doing.

Although I wonder if the Archivist was prompted before this battle, and all of his lines are BS... I still can't get over why, if he knew Siris was Ausar, why he would say "....the walls will come down and the worker will die with it!" , C'mon, were all deathless here, we all know the Worker can't die in a building collapse.......

Unless...... The Vault is timeless, and the Worker is mortal.

Hmmm... I am not sure about the WoS and Raidriar scheme, but the history of the IB has always been of interest to me. Why can it only kill Ausar? I have read the threads on this and the best explanation I have seen is that it is meant to free him. But if that were true, then why is it meant to take his Q.I.P.? Odd...

Plus his relationship with the Worker. If the worker trained him, why did they turn against each-other? If the worker is not deathless, why is Ausar? And wouldn't Ausar not be in the pantheon (whether it be literal, metaphorical, or an illusion) since he was trained by an enemy? ToO mAnY pOsSiBiLiTiEs... lol

I think Isa was right about the time not passing, same as you.

And why would the archivist claim that the building will fall anyway? Is it really that poorly built? haha (more evidence for deterioration? )

And I think that the archivist may have been one of the devoted of Ausar before he was a blood sentinel. Remember that the blood sentinels were sent by the ruling four to uphold the great pact? (weird since ruling 4 should mean 4 sentinels...) I know there was another thread on this, but they were probably sent by these 4 ruling deathless. So Ausar perhaps sent the Archivist to guard the Worker at the VoT.

On another note, what seals is the Archivist referring to??

This is just for conversation sake, but what if the seals are what is holding the memories of Ausar back. What if the Archivist really is a devoted of Ausar.

The seals are the things Ausar sticks his hand into to progressively unlock the VoT.

I thought the seals were prettly cleary explained as the "locks" that Siris sticks his hands into. Of course, nothing is as it seems, in this game, so any ideas about that would be interesting.

Brain--in a way, the seals ARE holding Ausar's memories, at least indirectly, as every time he dies, he regains more memories of his past life., Considering he unlocked them all and still did not remember who the Worker really was, I'm not sure they have a direct tie in

Grant-- We will agree on something at some point! How can you not believed that Raidrair and the Worker are working together. =)
    1. Raidrair visited the worker in IBA 2. WoS has the EXACT same armour as Raidrair, the same armor that was just invented, therefore, he must have just recently recieved it 3. IF they were not working together, why would WoS, tell Siris to get the sword and bring Raidrair back?? WoS doesn't need Raidrair to be unlocked, why not just say that all he needs is the Infinity Blade? Having Raidrair alive would seriously diminishes his chances of leaving. I'm %100 sure they are working together.

As for the building falling, More evidence of structural damage!

haha! I caught you Grant, your just being an antagonist aren't you! You believe that Thane is the first deathless, you do not believe that the word "of" in "First blood OF the deathless" could mean the he is a child of a deathless...., however,, you believe that the ruling four and the sentinals are two different groups because Thane says, "And safegaurded by sentinals OF the ruling four" LOL,

It really can be either way, justs adds to the frustation, hopefully we get a little more storyline tonight..

Also, I was thinking the same about a timeline, would rather wait for Dungeons to come out though

Yes but he said the seals must never be "broken" to allow "him" to return. Ausar is not breaking those pillars. Plus any deathless could use the pillars, and so it would have nothing to do with Ausar specifically returning. it is just not consistent.

WoS said that he wanted raidriar back so that it removes more competition from the world. haha and I'm always an antagonist

Agreed with the storyline till dungeons... but we have some things already that we could put on it. plus I am making it more of a "theory" storyline since nothing is really set in stone.

The seals he was referring to were the ones holding back the most vile evil. I think Ausar is that evil and the Memories Siris has locked away are being held back by a metaphorical set of seals. Basically after a certain number of rebirths Ausar will be fully awoken.

That is an interesting theory Brain... It seems plausible to me, but of course not preferable
I would love to see a new deathless! But I'm sure there will be plenty of those.

Like I said though, it is a plausible theory. What do you think Synge?

Raidrair is not locked in the vault, watch the ending again, Siris goes through the " binding" process, not Raidrair, Raidrair's QIP is not contained, but I'll bet he will enjoy telling Siris what is really going on.

If the most vile evil is the Dragoor, it explains whet the archivist says much better. I have past posts describing at length how I believe that the man in the statue , slaying the dragoon, is Raidrair, Assuming that is true, that statue is probably a depiction of Raidrair slaying the Dragoor on the plains of Koroth. Again, you don't really " slay" your equal, but you do slay a dragon. Also... According to the IB 1 manual, the Dragoor Blade, Ring and shield belong to the dragon slayer...which is Raidrair, ( they are in his dungeon)

So , Archvist says that the most vile evil will return if seals are broken. If the Dragoor is the most vile evil, how do the seals relate to him. well, why does the archivist claim that the walls will come crashing down? Maybe once the vault is opened , and the work tries to leave ,, without exchanging" QIP,, the castle has a self destruct that would cause it to collapse. also, the vault of tears is described by Mustarx as a prison fortress. So maybe there are other things that are trapped in the castle that would be released if the walls were to fall down.."..I think the Dragoor will be trapped in the lower dungeon.

Oh, forgot to mention, Have you noticed that the door that the NOC beast comes out of in the arena is the exact same door to RAidrairs birthing chamber in Lantimore? What do you make of that.? Proof that the Vault is One of Raidrair's castle?

Oh not to mention that all of the MX titans have the same logo/ insignia that iron golem, and the big fat titan had in IB1

I' m thinking that the Tomb is Raidrair's last mortal body
