Default UDK packages no longer saving

At some point yesterday my feb 2012 version of UDK stopped saving my package.

ie open level, import texture into package, save and close.

Reopen to find no the texture simply not there.

What worries me more is that it's not just this package, it's all packages.

    Anyone had anything similar?

You didn't change the names of any of the folders in your UDK folder or the UDK folder itself did you?

No, I'm pretty anally retentive about folder structure

Are there any error messages being displayed when you open the editor or start the game? It would help if you could post any logs that contain errors as it'll give us a better idea of what's going on.

You can find any logs that Unreal outputs under [Install Path][\UDKGame\Logs

    Nope, nothing

What's worse is I've just installed march beta and I'm getting the same issue.

    So basically I'm completely screwed.

I'll try looking for app data for udk and delete that, but any ideas would be really appreciated

Okay so it looks like it's materials and textures, I can import a mesh and it will remember that it's part of the package but if I import a texture OR create a material it doesn't

    HEEEELLLLPPPPP!!!!!!

Looks like if I import a texture and don't use it, it gets lost?

Have you done a right-click, "fully load" on the package?

Sometimes you'll have to load the content manually like that.
Please don't send me private messages asking how to use UDK unless it has to do with my work, everything I can teach is already out there.

I am not support, I am here to learn myself.

    Yeah it's fully loaded.

It's exactly the same issue as this

So save current level or indeed any of the save functions don't seem to save my package.

    ie

Click the save current level icon, mouse over the textures in the content browser and they show
    Status: Loaded (Package Not Saved)

I can't right click the the package to save it as it says 'Can't save map files via browser. Not saving 'testMap'

Maybe I'm just going about this all wrong.

I've been saving my textures, materials and meshes inside my level package and that seems to be part of the problem.

I've created a myMaterials package and that seems to be fine for saving everything.
