    How in the world can you get better at dodging a grenade beyond flipping away from it? The only other way is to run away but you'd have to know just where the grenade is coming from, position yourself in the correct opposite direction and then hold A. In the time it takes to do all of that it would have exploded already.

    For this to be true would mean that shooting a persons character model during their roll, or just before the end of the roll would do essentially nothing, because their hitbox wouldn't have "updated" -- which is not the case because I've done both of the things I just mentioned.

    Maybe the problem is something else? The hitbox is definitely not the problem, because shooting a person mid-roll still gets you the kill, which wouldn't happen if the hitbox hadn't followed them at least somewhat through the roll.

    If they can, it won't be an easy fix. The problem most likely exists, but even to prove or disprove it, Epic will need to look at all the collision detection code. There was a lot of code for Doom 3 when I looked though it. (The entire game was 780,000-781,000 lines of code). They're also looking for something that isn't there (code that doesn't update the hitbox). I think they can fix it, but it'll be a PITA.

    this has happened to me, i even managed to sponge a boomshot (god knows how) but usually, ill be at a wall in cover then ill get shot snd wont die till i moved away from the cover

    I see where you're coming from and to be honest can't explain it, but the video in the OP clearly shows how evading often fails against grenades because your hitbox hasn't moved.

    so many times ive rolled past a guy online to be gibbed when i was clearly my body lengths past him, why epic thought something like this was a good idea is beyond me, if it works the way you've explained it then thats truly game breaking and it needs addressing soon, its like epic want to kill their own game.....

    If it's simply latency, it's likely the worst latency I've ever experienced in an online game. We're talking up to full seconds in some cases.

    If it's a programming snafu, well that's just awful on it's own.

    Either way, an issue of this magnitude needs the attention it's getting.

    I don't really know, myself.

    All I know for certain is that there's an issue with people being killed even though they've evaded.

    This is the only thing I can think of that explains it, even if it does have some logical holes lol. It makes the most sense (to me, at least)

    Can just hope EPIC does something to address it.

    I would hope it's easy to fix. There is obvious support for something to be done; this thread proves it. If it's easy, then there's the chance it could be changed.

    I never roll now from nades and bullets. just rodie run and wall bounce and your hitbox seems to stay updated.

    ok so I just read all 19 pages and AMEN to the OP <3
    as a relatively new gears player who came over from FPS games I find this game incredibly inconsistent, I know to get good at anything you need to practice it and understand it but how do you practice something that doesn't even work half the time?
    no one has pointed out yet that rolling sideways to avoid a retro charge is useless as you get sucked back and this also happens with the lancers chainsaw.
    I have been in situations when an enemy has disappeared round a wall and I've gibbed them when they are no longer on my screen, at the time I put it down to lag but after reading this I'm not so sure.
    I think connection can be an issue as I usually have a high ping and rubberband a lot but I think there are also coding problems as well because I come across a lot of these problems when I'm not lagging especially the retro/lancer vacuum effect.
    I just want some consistency and for things to do what they say they do.
    I really hope that EPIC picks up on this and fixes it because I'm really tired of rolling past people and then dying when they are facing the other way or being sucked into a retro charge/chainsaw when I have seen them coming and side rolled to EVADE it or dying to a frag after I have rolled away from it or when I roll back from someone with a SoS and still die or when I throw a ink/incendiary and it lands on someone but does no damage, or when I land a boom directly next to someone and it doesn't do anything, or when I get mantle kicked when I'm about 7 feet away from the cover...and so on.
    on a side note I love this game and really enjoy it when it works. I don't believe I am better than anyone and I don't suffer from the delusion that if I die then the game must be broken. I know that as a new player there will be things that I don't understand yet that will come from practice and patience (as will anything in life).

    I understand what you mean. But sometimes a guy will roll out of the way, I shoot where his hear used to be before he rolled, and I get a headshot off of it and he goes flying as if he got popped while rolling.

    Mm, chainsawing has always suffer from a vacuum. The Retro Charge exacerbated this, and coupled with hitbox not moving, makes it very dangerous lol.
    I mean, it COULD be lag- other people have pointed it out, and this thread is entirely conjecture- but that would mean it's a CONSTANT lag. A constant 1second lag on the hitbox, which is massive. That's even more scary than a slow hitbox.

    It's just a shame that the uniqueness of the game seems to put a lot of strain on it, causing these issues, especially the Mantle Kicker.../Shudder.

    When someone throws an incend, you're already moving off but it still manages to hit you?

    It's because, according to the game, you're still in that same spot until you hit the ground. Is it possible for this to actually be fixed? It really sucks when you accrue deaths which should never have occurred.
    You forgot to bring up sliding into cover, it does the same thing.

    After reading this thread, I really couldn't stop noticing it. I always thought i was just too slow to evade, or lagging. This really is a bit of a game-breaker, I rely a lot on rolling around and bouncing off the walls. I thought I'd become terrible at it since gears 1/2... Didn't realise I was making it actually easier to be killed. Thank you for making me realising the truth lol
