Why people swap to the gnasher at spawn.

People swap to the Gnasher out of spawn because that way they can pre-active and thus ensure nobody else has a chance. It's as bad as the retro.

Personally, depending on the size of the map I keep my Hammy out. If its a mid-small size map however, I'm bound to end up being rushed by some rambo f*ck-nugget who thinks he's God, and seeing as the hammy has been nerfed so far that retro's out class it at long range, I'll keep the Gnasher out. Or Sawed-Off if I feel like trolling said players.

Small maps it just makes sense to keep gnasher out. Ends up being much more effective.

Force of habit. It's what I've done for years, so I can't help it. In Gears 2 the Gnasher was clearly superior to the rifles, so everyone switched to it upon spawning and still do in Gears 3

It's like rolling every 2-3 seconds while running. It doesn't get you there any faster (at least not in Gears 3), it's just a habit

I guess you could look at it this way:

If you get attacked by someone at long range and you have a shotgun, it's easier to switch to a rifle as you have time to take cover and are not going to get killed instantly. In close range however you CAN get killed instantly, so if you have a rifle out it's less forgiving to switch weapons.

That is certainly one way to look at it. I always switch out my Gnasher at spawn as well. I simply dislike Gears of Rifles. I figure, if casuals see me using a Gnasher most of the time and getting a decent 1.5 or greater kill death or MVP, they will be encouraged to use the Gnasher as well. Who doesn't want to get a double or triple kill by wall bouncing and gibbing? Its sexy and addictive.

Exactly. No point having your rifle out when travelling.

Took me a while but I stopped rolling lol. It's slower I think..

Personally I switch to my Gnasher at the jump for when I'm moving out of spawn I don't give my position away to an enemy I see at a distance. Which in the case I'm holding my Gnasher forces myself to move into a stealthier spot for which I can either hit them with the Gnasher or switch over to the Lancer or which ever Rifle I'm equipped with at the time inflicting a higher amount of damage.

The reason I do it is the same reason I roll at the start, even though they made Rodeo Running the same speed as mash Rolling in Gears 3, because it is what I have done for a very long time.

Switching to your shotgun (Secondary weapon) out of spawn is a stupid idea and I dislike these people.
