    Default Wallbounce Tips and Tricks

    I had nothing to do and thought I do something to help the community. First of all I want to say that I’m not a “tryhard” wallbouncer I prefer strafing over bouncing but anyway… I would appreciate it a lot if you guys give a read and feedback. (It’s my first time to write such a long text actually)

    This Thread is a little Wallbounce Nice to know/Tips and Tricks, where we put tips and tricks for wallbouncing that people might not know. Please feel free to ask anything if you have questions or want me to add something.
    Unfortunately I don’t have a capture card so I will keep it in Textform. I will focus on things I have not seen in a youtube video yet. That’s why I will not talk about How to do a wallbounce or something like that.
    First tip: Turn on “Omnidirectional evade” and make sure you have atleast a look sensitivity of 15.

    • When to use Wallbounce: (TIMING)
    I find myself Wallbouncing to try to get upper Hand in a shotty battle. For example: The battle starts and I can’t get my opponent into the blindy box while my opponent already hit me with his first shot. So normally if the second shot hits me I will go down. So as soon as his first shot hits me I will wait for let’s say a quarter/split second and do the wallbounce. That is the right time to evade the shot because if you have done it earlier his shot would have gone to the wall you’ve bounced in to because you actually tell your opponent your next move and you give him the chance to shot you. So TIMING is a big thing in wallbouncing
    A good situation to use wallbounce is when you face multiple opponents. You can strafe as well but it would be much difficult to come out as a winner in a battle.
    You can also use wallbouncing to move around the map. It’s actually a good way to practice and get to know the map and see which wall you can bounce to or not.
    NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER bounce TOWARDS your opponent. I also don’t recommend bouncing all the time. In a 1v1 a good strafe will outplay a bouncer. Just because you are such an easily target if you bounce all the time because the good player will see where you will be so he places his shot in your face.

    • Wallbouncing Range:
    If you keep practicing wallbouncing you will soon get a feeling from which range you will bounce or roll or do nothing if you use alt scheme. However… there are actually different ranges where you will slide into cover or not. If you look right at the wall your range will be the longest. The shortest range where you will be able to bounce is when the wall is on your left or right side. (when you roadie run parallel to the wall.) If you don’t believe me try it out. Now here comes the big advantage of the “omnidirectional evade” Thanks to it you will be able to bounce into 11, 1, 5 and 7 O’clock directions. This makes possible to bounce a long hallway all the way down without using right analog stick. If timed perfectly it is possible or you can use it to bounce to a wall in of said directions.
    ADD: Chik'Tikka said that a good way to get a feeling for Wallbouncing Range is to practice at gridlock at the frag/incend spawn.

    • Wallbounce Cancel:
    A lot of people talk about this. But a lot of people don’t say that you have to time it. It doesn’t have any sense to go into the bouncing animation and cancel it right away because you almost stay at the same place. So TIME you wallbounce cancel. Wait until right before you hit the wall before cancelling it if you want to evade the shot. If you want to feint your opponent you can immediately cancel it but I don’t know how often that works. To be honest, if I see my enemy bouncing I wait until I know for 100% where he will be and then pull the trigger. And again TIMING it very important.

    • A Third Eye:
    Before you go into a shotty battle you should check your surroundings and keep in mind: “Where are the walls?” “Where might I get stuck into?” “How to evade?”. Even while in a shotgun battle you should keep track of your surroundings. That’s what your third eye is for.

    • Unpredictable Bouncing:


    This is a simple one. While Wallbouncing you become an easy target for your opponent if you just chain your bounces from left to right and right to left and again. So the thing you want to do now is being UNpredictable by mixing up your bounces. It can be mixxed with strafing or bouncing to the same wall 2-3 times before switching. Just don't make yourself an easy target. But remember: Only use wallbouncing when necessary it should NEVER be your number one option in a 1v1 shotty battle.


    • Wallbounce into a crouch:
    If you lean against a wall and push the Left thumb stick you will crouch. As you know the crouch animation is very slow. BUT if you’re in the wallbouncing animation and push the Left thumb stick while sliding you will crouch as soon as you hit the wall WITHOUT the animation. This gives you a better chance to make your opponent miss his shot.

    • Button Mashing:
    I have seen this a few times at my brother. If he is in a shotty battle he gets totally hectic and button mashes everything. DON’T do it. Always keep your cool and again TIME your gamepad inputs. It’s like a beat’em up but not that hard actually. Button mashing gets you nowhere. The gnasher fire rate for example. If you mash the Trigger you will push it a split second to early and before you can push it another time your opponent already popped your head. That’s why you should time your shots because a split second can make the difference between life and death.

    • Alternate Control Scheme:

    Since this guide is for our new Gearheads I just want to mention, that there is an option called "alternate control scheme". This scheme splits your roadie run/roll/ and taking cover button in to the A and X Button of your gamepad. As a result you won't do "accidental rolls" anymore. The problem with the standard scheme is that if you're to far away from wallbouncing you will roll instead sliding. The alternate scheme takes care of that. Unfortunatelly I can not give you any tips with it because I never used it, but arCtiC (really nice guy!) made a video about it, which I higly recommend if you're thinking about using alternate scheme:

    So there are three things you have to practice to improve your wallbouncing: TIMING; get a feeling for range and when to bounce and strafe; and keeping your cool.

    I think that’s it for now. As I said feel free to tell me what I should add and what you think about this. I might forgot two or three thing but I will add them If I remember them.

    Ive never been a wallbouncer, i may bounce once in a fight but it causes me to miss to much.

    I never knew you could bounce into a crouch though haha thanks for the tip mane!

Look where his barrel is pointing, how he moves and especially how he shoots and if he misses you in which distance he missed you. For example: Let's say your opponent missed you in a wide ancle.     Good write up OP, way to show the importance of timing (IMO the hardest thing about wallbouncing and connecting a good shot is timing).

    I've played Gears since about two days after it was originally released.
    And never felt the need to learn how to wall bounce.
    Maybe one day.

    I play with omni evade off as when I'm getting around the map I find that I get stuck a lot more, but I'm sure and I'm pretty sure I've tried it, with omni evade on I don't think it affects your bouncing angles, but if so, I will have to go back to omni evade.

    Indeed I have some informative tips on strafing check out my other post on the first page where I reply someone with quote. that's a really helpful tip

    I don't know how long you have been playing but all your blind shots will go into the area where the red cog symbol is when you take damage. You just have to burn that area into your memory . Sticking a tiny white point on your TV may help xD.

    at 1:29 :
    I guess his opponent was getting hectic because likebutter didn't die. You could see how fast he spammed his shots. that's why he was missing them all also he stood still and was not moving a lot

    at 3: 15 :
    simple blindfiring^^ everyone can do that as long as you know where the blindy box is (red cog symbol)

    at 7: 18:

    I don't know how long you have been playing but all your blind shots will go into the area where the red cog symbol is when you take damage. You just have to burn that area into your memory . Sticking a tiny white point on your TV may help xD.

    I guess his opponent was getting hectic because likebutter didn't die. You could see how fast he spammed his shots. that's why he was missing them all also he stood still and was not moving a lot

    I have a question when your pumping your shotgun after you shoot one shot, is it better to measure the distance of the enemy and hipfire or follow the enemy with the barrel while pumping your shotgun?

    You don't need alternative controls to wallbounce quickly and efficiently either. Standard is fine. You just have to "look" at the cover you're planning on bouncing off of more (this also helps with alternative anyway). Try not to do too many "hard bounces" (which is basically holding your left stick all the way to the left or right) as that's when you just roll (most of the time). It takes some practice but you can end up wallbouncing very quickly and efficiently, and with good accuracy, by doing that.

    At close range i would remain by hipfiring but at medium range i'd pop shot ...

    excellent+^_^+ i have requests on Wall-Bouncing tutoring occasionally, (see siggy) and for beginners and even just advanced practice i like to use that large area on Gridlock, the grenade spawn, a lot of good surfaces far enough apart where you'll fail if your too far away, so unlike the top of blood drive and such you can do a full range of basic bouncing there. good way to get a feel as to how far away you can slide+^_^+

    I like the hallway on old town. That area between ink and pistol. Good way to chain some bounces.

    All of this is cool too, but mainly if you really want to wall bounce. Alternative style control scheme + claw is the way. How to do it extremely fast to the point that its effective anyways.
