    I am going to assume you didnt read any of my post other than the relax a bit comment. Notice what I said - I am having and have been having similar issues with Halo Reachsince almost February. Microsoft had a statement ON their page a day or two ago saying there were matchmaking issues. Pete said via twitter this probably causing the issue you are seeing in Gears. It could also be your connection or your router. So in short, my comments are contributing and helping, OP wanted to know what the heck was going on, I provided a reason we are aware of. Read my post entirely in the future please.

    It seems we have hit a dead end.
    After some phoning around, it turns out that Epic Games doesn't actually have a tech support, and basically the only way to get help would be Xbox Support or here.

    There's no use talking to Xbox Support, because they've already confirmed that this is a GoW3 server issue, and Epic is who we need to talk to.
    So I guess all we can do is wait for someone from Epic to bring an official response.

    @NFI. Thanks for that information.

    I haven't tried to see if I am having the same issues that I am having with Gears. It's worth a shot. I do remember Pete saying that it may affect the servers it just seems very fishy that it will or only seems to affect us fellow Canadians, and I think that is what is frustrating all of us.

    Any other Canucks see if Reach is giving any problems?

    well all i can say is doin more reading on the problem theres more then one game thats having this same problem MW3, yes Reach, Gears 2 had this problem i guess all we can do is wait and see what they come up with. if some of you guys are playin with ur friends ur doin alot better then me as i cant get on anything. but i Got S3.0 the other day so i can wait this out now.

    let's start here. i know they don't need to respond to every post, most of what's on these boards is nonsense. however, when there is an actual problem affecting a lot of users, a simple "we are looking into it" would suffice. 10 seconds of effort would go a long way.

    second, i get that you're a company guy, but you're obviously missing some things. i've seen 4 or 5 threads that were nothing but polite and constructive be taken down without comment. sure epic has a right to censor their boards if they want, but don't pretend they're not doing it.

    last, i understand how the servers work. when there is a problem that affects epic's game, whether the root cause is theirs or not, it is their problem. if they simply communicated with us instead of operating in a cone of silence, there would be a lot less animosity toward them. all i want is a playable game. if they are working toward a solution, i'm happy to be patient. if they aren't, then let me know so i can move on. that's all i'm asking for.

    I had this situation a few days ago, and I was unable to find a simple match

    This a step by step of what I did and worked out perfectly for me

    first, on the dashboard go to:
    settings>system>network settings

    choose from wired network or wireless network, which ever your connection, then:
    configure network> additional settings

    and then press "Restore to Factory Defaults"

    you will get disconnected from xboxlive, press ok


    then go back and under system settings, choose:
    storage>highlight hard drive "when hard drive is highligthed press "Y" to open device options and select "clear System Cache"

    go back again and choose:
    hard drive>system items

    erase everything under system items

    on your modem,make sure you have the following ports open:
    Port 88 (UDP)
    Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
    Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
    Port 80 (TCP)
    Port 27000-27020 (UDP)
    Port 27020-27050 (TCP)

    if you already have this ports open,erase them and assigned them again

    turn off the modem and wait 30 seconds and turn it on again so changes can take effect.

    when the modem is on,in your xbox go back to:
    settings>system>network settings

    choose from wired network or wireless network, which ever your connection, then:

    Test Xbox LIVE Connection, when test is finished you should see a indicator under network status that will say:
    "matchmaking up" with a checkmark.

    when done, go back to the game, it will ask you for an update.
    when done, you shouldnt have a problem in finding a match.

    Thanks for the advice HD. I did try that, but not really sure how to open the ports on my router. I currently have the Cisco DPC3825 Modem/Router and i don't have a specific menu option to open those ports, just port forwarding(which is the one I used). I am thinking I will purchase a router and then get my modem bridged so its just a modem...I am running a wired connection directly to my 360.

    So it didn't work yet, but I haven't tried anything since the new playlist went live.

    @pumas. You'll have to set them up in your own router configuration. Usually in port forwarding. If you go to portforward.com and skip the advertisement to buy their tool and choose your router it will guide u through the spot to put the numbers in.

    I have tried the new settings with opening those ports, deleting everything and even setting my xbox as DMZ. Still nothing

    I really think the issue occurred when they added that 24/7 playlist. It's really unfortunate

    Yeah you can, sorry my last post was when I was typing from my phone so it is a PITA to try and attach a link. This will bring you to the router list page and you need to find yours and it will tell you where to put the numbers for opening the ports.

    Another question. I have my DNS settings changed so I can watch US netflix, but as far as I am aware this will not change any matchmaking concerns.

    To my Canadian people that are having issues and that are with Shaw, are you running the Broadband 50? What type of router are you running? Also...would you recommend turning the "modem/router" that Shaw gives by turning it just into a Modem, and attaching a wireless router?

    i have the shaw 50 down, 3 up plan. i have my xbox hard-wired to the modem and it tests at 48 down/2.8 up. i do have the wireless function set to off because my apple tv would not maintain a reliable connection to my macbook for some reason. for my wireless, i have dlink dir 655. i lose speed with the dlink, but it's way more stable. i think you can call shaw to have them turn the modem/router into just a modem by putting into bridge mode, i just haven't bothered yet.

    as for my gears experience, i can now find a match after 3-5 minutes of searching, but it's always p2p. i have someone on my friends list in calgary with the same issues who has spent hours on the phone with xbox support to no avail.

    is it really too much to as for someone from epic to just comment on the problem as it's been over a week now?

    Well that has increased my connection speed. As for whether or not I am playing on dedicated servers its hard to say. It's taking me about 2min to find a match, I haven't noticed any lag but I only had a chance to play 3 matches.

    The one thing that is making me think I am still on P2P is the fact that one or two people have re-upped once, everyone else is still under 50 or slightly above.

    I'm going to try some GoW 2 and see what(if any difference) or now the matchmaking is just slower.

    So I never got a chance to see if Gears 2 was the same. But i am noticing that the characters talk at the start of each round...I don't remember this happening when I was able to connect right away. Does anyone else remember this?

    That's what I thought. I just wonder if I can connect to one and see or if someone would let me know as a confirmed that they actually do speak in Dedicated or not...oh well. I am stuck at work right now and might be able to jump on later.

    Since I've installed the new router I have not tried what HD suggested.

    Thats too bad Gza. Doing that for me at least helped my wireless network putting it in bridge mode. So right now thats the only positive that I found...so far.

    But yeah, I still need to do over 1000 waves of horde, and finish off beast...so I now know what i am going to be doing.

    it actually did help my wireless speeds quite a bit, the wireless function on the smc unit is terrible. it just didn't help the matchmaking process with gears.

    I have set up a Tech to come by and take a look. I did talk to Shaw and they do not block any ports. They limit port 25(their email servers) I am going to try doing what HD suggested again, but this time on my new router, outside of that I set the appointment up for Friday. So hopefully its an issue that is fixed.

    My buddy(on telus) had no issues this weekend. So it seems a hardware issue now...
