    Default WIP - The Gauntlet

    Hello Everyone,

This is a game I am in the process of making that is meant to mimic the game play style of the game "One" for the Playstation 1. For those who haven't played it, here is a video for reference:

The main focus of the game play was to create a scenario where the player needs to move as fast as he/she can while also being aware of where they are going. Tanks exploding on the left hand side of the screen make sure the player keeps moving at a fast pace. If the player stops or slows down, they will be killed by the explosion. The ship outside shooting rockets and bullets keeps the players focus on what is happening directly near the player. The crumbling building itself, with holes in the floor and windows and walls being blown out, force the play to be conscious of where they are running while all this is going on.

    Here are some WIP Images:

These are a few rough thumbnail sketches. The level design is basic

    Here are a top down:

    And some lighting shots:

    Some more screen shots:

    A description of the game:
The player emerges from a sewer and out into a very exposed hallway with windows. Upon entering the hallway, a flying ship lowers in to view and begins shooting at the player. As the player runs, the ship glides along the outside of the building firing into the windows. This causing building damage the player must avoid, as well as explosions within the building. The ship itself is a point of danger trying to shoot the player.

    And of course, videos:

Thanks in advance for your time. All constructive feedback is welcome. Thanks again.

    It was definitely interesting.
I'm sure the sort fixed look behind you camera angle adds to the flair of the game, but it would get frustrating if the sum of it + the mirrored control scheme killed you enough.
Procedurally generated levels would probably be better suited for this, because it looks like a "high action" party game.

In keeping with that high action feel, you could use some elvation changes to nice effect.
you're running along avoiding all the carnage behind you, the cracking floor in front of you, the crap dropping from the ceiling, then out of nowhere, a jump you can't quite make and it's over....
no, you're still alive somehow, but on a lower level, and the pace has picked up.
Stupid phazy kid, "You have a difficult decision."
Shepard, "No, not really. Anyway, little sociopath, I watched you die."
Stupid phazy kid, "That wasn't me, I just look like that for some reason."
Shepard, "This gives me another reason to enjoy the memory."
