    Map - Deathmatch (PC) DM-Aetherdale

    I had a sudden itch to release a Deathmatch version of my Aetherdale map. Enjoy!

    There have been some minor updates to the original map (found here: http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/...CTF-Aetherdale)

    Changes include -

    Fixes:

    - Some trees were not rendering correctly and others did not allow bullets to penetrate their leaves. Troublesome trees have been fixed or replaced.
    - Indoor pickup factories now emit light onto surrounding geometry.
    - Preview screenshot quality is no longer tied to texture detail settings.


    Changes:

    - Added Rocket Launcher pickup factory to caves.
    - Tech elevator behind the windmill has been removed.
    - Berserk pickup near the windmill has been moved to the position previously held by the blue flag.
    - Shield Belt near the windmill has been moved to replace the jumpboots.
    - Jumpboots near the windmill have been moved to the position previously occupied by the Berserk pickup.
    - Berkserk pickup on the hill near the large house has been moved to occupy the position previously held by the red flag.
    - Jumpboots near the large house have been moved to the hill position previously occupied by the Berserk pickup.
    - Helmet near the archway has been moved to the position of the health pickup near the Redeemer. The health pickup has been removed.
    - Grass and flowers will no longer render if detail is set to low.

    EDIT - For anyone unfamiliar with installing custom maps: The readme file states that this map will show up in your Capture the Flag list. This is not true; it will show up in your Deathmatch list just like any other Deathmatch map. This is just something I missed when updating the readme file.

    This looks great. Totally great atmosphere and lighting techniques according to a screenshot. Downloading and I'll give it a try with this map and the CTF version (haven't tried one yet).

    Beautiful map. At first I feared that I would have trouble running it on my laptop, but the framerate is great, which is surprising for such a stunning map. So, great job!

    How's things Stevie? Yes this is a final but I created the thread after a few drinks on Friday night and seem to have dumped it in the wrong section!

    I've contacted the Admins, so hopefully they will move it over to Full Releases soon.

    Its all Mesh; this is great.
    - like flawless + you have room for even more visuals.
    - have not played extensively yet
    CTF, now DM... any chance of a adding a "V"--vctf?

    TKBS, I did play around with vehicles when I did the original CTF release but the map is too tight in many places for it to work well. I found that I was constantly bumping into things and getting caught, so I doubt I'll end up doing a VCTF version.

    Thumbs up an excellent map still as DM!

    I still see a hobbit in there somewhere and I liked all the fixes/changes except removing the health pickup. This map has excellent atmosphere created with the various trees, moving sky, windmill, small canyons, former flag bases, crystal caverns and other out-of-the-way areas. I like the addition of all the ambient sounds also as well as the roofs. The gameplay is made interesting with the different areas and that is what gives the map a lot of its character. The gameplay is wide-open but with lots of tight side paths also. There are many paths between former flag bases and good weapon/item placement (especially the goodies in the houses). It's a very enjoyable and fun map, but the bots are still a little easy.

    Thank guys, and for the feedback SkaarjMaster - What difficulty do you play on? I have restricted a lot of the paths that the bots are able to take since I wanted them to stick more to the roads rather than taking all manner of ridiculous shortcuts through the map; perhaps that could be reducing the challenge slightly, though? It would be good if the bots behaved a bit more deviously!

    Awesome! Thanks for getting a PS3 build up and running KurlonT. I'd love to try it out but I don't own a PS3!

    Haha, always dangerous to drink and post maps . Thanks for putting out a DM version of this map. VERY beautiful map!

    Question

    I thought I set the bots at the Skilled level, but I saw Average pop up the other day and now I'm seeing Skilled again tonight. Can that change randomly or can it change depending on game type or what? I always thought it just stayed at the setting I put it at all the time.

    Just thought I'd let you know that I have been enjoying this map quite a bit. It really has some great atmosphere. The only thing you left out was some virtual beers and a chair at the top of the windmill so I could kick back up there and relax and listen to the wind. (in between sniping that is! LOL)
