I have released an alpha of my shooter Project Culverin on 4shared with a basic map called Nightfall. This a proof of concept of some of the mechanics I tried to put emphasis on during development.
Most art is placeholder(Note that the music is not! Thanks to c.Bledsoe for such good work), and in some cases standard UT art is used, as I put functionality over flair during the development of the core game. Great thanks goes to Gaz for providing a great amount of art for public use.
The goal of Culverin is simple: Recreate the glory days of simpler First Person Shooters, back when games were all about creative weapons that tailored to playing styles.
Many weapons nowadays tailor to playing styles, but lack creativity. This is mostly due to heavy inspiration by real-life weaponry or an overwhelming desire to play it safe.
But I'm not here to rant about the modern game industry; back to my game:
(A screencap of the map, Nightfall)
(The Main Menu)
Features:
-Several weapons: Magnum Pistol, Ricochet Rifle (bullets bounce of walls!), Rainmaker(Rapid-Fire rockets!), Grenade Launcher, Shock Rifle (Rebalanced version of the UT weapon), Rocket Launcher (same deal as shock rifle), Gatling Rifle, and Shredder (m60 with Explosive rounds).
-These are all coded using the UT framework, with modifications. The True First Person system by slowJusko has also been implemented.
-Context sensitive original music
Stuff I know already:
-It relies heavily on other people's code. I know this, I'm trying to make a game that's fun, not a game that's completely from scratch.
-The sniper rifle is utterly broken. Yes. I'm planning to fix this with the next update
-The Ricochet Rifle is the only gun that isn't really a UT knockoff. I'm planning to do a lot more work on the weapons. There will be significantly more with the next update.
-Nightfall isn't the prettiest around. Function over Flair.
-The jump boots are essentially unchanged from UT. I know.
Planned updates:
-More weapons (Including a very important new default weapon that will be included in patch 5)
-Another map: Inversion. Every 30 seconds, gravity will shift directions.
-A training map to better familiarize people with the weapons and mechanics in the game.
-A melee system, hopefully. Blacklion has already assisted me in creating this.

The newest DL link will always be at the top of the post.
If you have any comments/suggestions/CONSTRUCTIVE crticisms, leave them here! I'd like to know what you think and where it can be improved. Remember that empty praise or patting me on the back doesn't bring me any closer to a good product. Tell me what you think!
