    Default UT3.exe C++ Runtime Error

    Hello and thank you for trying to help.

    Problem:
    My game crashes upon any attempt to play the original UT3 campaign or Multiplayer.

    Facts:
    1. Yes, i searched google and the forums - I hate posting. -_-
    2. that msvcr8.dll thing and deleting the UTEngine.ini file didn't do the trick.
    3. The game used to run smoothly on my system, even with V-sync on.
    4. My Nvidia drivers are up to date.
    5. I have C++ and .net installed (again, the game used to run fine before)

    6. I'm playing a mod for unreal that's called "Planetstorm - Angels Fall First" and it runs perfectly, the mod is a total conversion and is using a completely different folder for it's INI files.

    Only the original UT3 content doesn't seems to run.


    I'm running:
    XP Pro
    Q9400
    GeForce 9800 GTX+
    4 GB ram(3.25 due to XP Pro)

    If I recall, I did not try to play the campaign after installing the patch5 file and the titan pack - but then again, MP worked fine even after those installations so I got no clue.

    hi, welcome and lol @ ur sig

    dunno for the others but i ve encounter this problem more than with anyother game, the only fix i found, if we can call that a fix... was a complete uninstall (uninstall + delete MyGames/UT3 and (C: )/Program Files(x86)/UT3) than reinstall the game...yeah it s long and yeah it s boring
    than after resetting all ur game save ur config, published and unpublished folders somewhere if u re 100% sure that the game runs well...so...the next time it will happen u can reinstall ur game and replace the stock published , unpublished and config by ur copied/saved clean files to spare some time ....than answer to some CD KEYs friendly questions and hop
    some will tell that they are several way to save a copy, probably better and faster than this one...lol...i installed this game so often that my DVD is dead +.+

    i bet that installing n testing mods and mutators drive to all theses problems, i know peeps playing without thoses troubles but only mates that never install complex or beta custom content
    GL...and sorry i think there s no magic way to go faster than by a clean complete reinstall

    thanks blitz but I can't uninstall\reinstall every time this happens.
    Between work and commitments I simply don't have the time, when I have some free time for gaming I'll just use the time to play CS:S\HL2 mods or ArmA2 that do work with mods.

    Of course that it would make me think twice before trusting Epic and the stability of their software on the next holyday - when the shoping craze begins, lol.

    I hope to find out that Epic games live up to their name and find a solution that actually supports the people who support them, I think you know what I mean.

    If you say "Crash", you should provide the crash log (of UT3 not Windows).

    Also you have a QuadCore Processor and a 32bit OS; ??????? REALLY WEIRD
    try this;
    UTEngine.ini
    make it true
    PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=True


    - maybe buy a new OS and a new GPU

    MP may not use titan and the other stuff.. so try playing the game when you actually have it up to date. Patch 2.1 + titan etc

    I do not post much due to a personal knack towards search buttons and info finding in general, I post when I have to - until now I didn't have to.
    Speaking of info, you've probably missed the line in which I wrote that the game runs on the highest settings and also that it's mods(total conversions) are running smoothly - no need to go sherlock to find it.

    The game is up to date and TP is also installed.


    The boolean value change didn't work though and the C++ runtime error re-occurred.

    The log isn't written entirely. If you get this C++ runtime error, just close that message, but don't close UT3 (or the log window).

    I had lots of problems with custom chars. Rename or move the folder My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Published\CookedPC\CustomChars

    lol, i was actually thinking about doing that after going through the log myself(thanks to RattleSN4K3).
    You're kinda reassuring what I thought might be a problem for the game.
    At first I thought that there's no way that the costume char feature could be that buggy so it's not even worth a try but heck... what do I have to lose - right?

    I have a file named - LocalShaderCache-PC-D3D-SM3.upk

    The problem happens anyway even when Costume Chars are turned off in the "player" menu through the game.

    is the \CustomChars folder suppose to have myown player model or other players player models? if it supposed to be my own then something is wrong because I have just edit a Ronin one existing char and the folder was not created, even when I've created a new Lindari one nothing happened.

    I did what you said before and the game just closed anyway so this time I didn't wait for it to crash on it's own, I guess that explains the incomplete log...

    I think it's incomplete but this time I've allowed the game to run to it's bitter end.

    FYI - there's something funny here, I alt-tabbed into the game again and it would seem that the game still runs but I can't give keyboard input but can have limited mouse input - I was shot dead so I needed to click on "fire" to respawn but it didn't register - I could still look around with the mouse...

    So, the game still runs in the background - bots moving and are shooting but i'm stuck in a would-be stationary spec-mod.

    I don't know what to do in order to get the game to produce a full log file.
    Is there a possibility to open an official support ticket like on Steam or EA forums somewhere in EpicGames domain?

    Game say something about an error that's related to some msvcr80.dll.
    I've did try to add that DLL into my game folder as described in one of the post but it's either not working or that there was something wrong with file itself.
    Any clues?

    Hmm. The exception is not very common. The msvcr80.dll is just the "origin" of the assertion exception. It's part of the Runtime Environment.
    You need to locate the problem. I googled that assertion error. There was this game called "Global Agenda" where that error occured. They say it's something with the Nvidia PhysX card/software/driver.

    You could try to remove the PhysX mappack (or update the software). I would suggest to rename the folder "\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3" (like "\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3 original". This will force UT3 to create a clean profile folder with no addons/mutators/and other stuff (assuming you're running UT3 without "-NOHOMEDIR").
    I would copy the old content step by step back to this folder if all works well. And i wouldn't overwrite the original created INI files in your Config folder as they get "broken" from time to time.

    Thanks guys, this gives me a lead to follow.

    The msvc DLLs family is one I'm familiar with and I've assumed that the problem probably did not originated from those files.
    I did suspect the PhysX componants and that's what i'll try next.

    Due to the fact that I left my "reakless hacking days" behind me I'm no expert in the materia and your input did help me to consolidate what I'd otherwise think to be a ghost in the machine

    @toebee3 - thank you first of all. If you'd follow that thread too you'd see that there was no solution at the end of it.



    ASSUMPTION: I am now working under the assumption that the "C++ runtime error" occurred due to a faulty PhysX component which may be found either in the UT3 map pack released by Nvidia or in the PhysX drivers themselves that works through the C++ runtime environment infrastructure.


    I'll keep posting on my progress for record's sake incase anyone else might bump into the same annoying problem.
