UK Server Problems

Whenever I play against people from France, Italy, Spain, Columbia, Puerto Rico, Mexico, etc I get TONS of lag and they sponge tremendously. I am in Northern California on the WEST COAST of the USA. I dont know why the game is putting me in the lobby with people from the other side of the planet!

Frenchies are the worst. I only seem to get placed in matches with them if I'm in an English party/lobby.

Same here Dan, looks to me like a hell of a lot of UK players have given the game up now due to the connection problems the game causes.

I know a lot of my UK friends have stopped playing.

Even playing as a random now, I seem to keep ending up playing against the same old gamertags.

I've had another bad week. When coming off cover around a corner and hitting RT with the gnasher I'm getting blown to bits 50% of the time and sponging :-@

When it's so poor how come most European countries are ranked in the top 19 (and even in the top 10) of the world? The Netherlands is even 5th while the US is 12th, the UK at 17 and France at 19. I think the real problem lies at the Gears servers.

According to the Akamai report, the global average Internet connection speed is 1.8 Mbits/second, which seems paltry compared to the average speeds enjoyed in the countries that top Akamai's list.

Based on the findings, [color= red]many of the fastest Internet connections are found in Europe[/color]. China, the world's most connected country, does not make Akamai's list because its average Internet connection speed is slower than the global average. Similarly, the United States, ranked #2 in terms of Internet users, enjoys an average connection speed of 4.60 Mbits/second, which is only the twelfth-fastest in the world.

We won't give away which country boasts the fastest connection speed (You'll have to view the slideshow to find out), but let's just say that it blazes past the United States at nearly 17 Mbits/second.

And Gears 3 is on "fair" dedicated servers.

i really wish we could start a kind of revolution. We have the potential power as a community, but not the discipline. We could really change things

settle down there lol, revolution is going to extremes over an aspect of MP
but its not like i dont experience lag playing from another continent on EU servers :C

It's our internet infrastructure, many newly developed countries have far better internet speeds because all the installed tech is modern, our cables and hubs all over the country are ancient and seriously in need of upgrading. Its not Epic's or MS's fault, they cannot make your internet better. Hassle BT!!!

Same here. For the most part I can't even be bothered playing this game because of how bad it is. Or if I do play i'm on for about 20 minutes then I get annoyed with people not dying so I turn it off.

Sorry,but that is a load of BS. I play BF3 all the time and have no problems with it and that has dedicated servers. I play games such as COD which runs on p2p and that plays ok as well.
I'm not saying other games are perfect all the time but for the most part they are much better to play than Gears 3.

I think the only solution is to find one of these so called dedicated servers and camp out next to it !!! But from what I've herd we have more chance of finding the holy grail !!! Uk left to rot :-(

Mate, UK connections in general are awful, I read somewhere that less than half of the UK has at least 10mb Fibre optic connection, and normal phone line connections are dreadful for online gaming nowadays

My connection isn't brilliant as im on bog standard phone line. I get something like 8meg down and 0.8 meg up BUT i've had my connection type changed to fastpath and I get very low ping(15ms to anywhere in the uk) and I still get horrible connections in this game.
The connection problems are not on our end.

Thats a good cop out for epic but come on mate, they need to fix it . The simplestt way, same as on gears 2 is to apply a uk regional filter to all players from uk. Problem solved. And dont tell me they cant or wont have enough players because it worked juust finje on gears 2 social three years after release with hardly anyone playing. In fact try it now u shud only get uk lobbies. And another point u may not know, Italy has its own personal server an d only play Italians because they are so vocal here on the forums. Look it up, why do they get regional server for their country if its so impossible. Oh yeah because epic just say anything to shut us up

I joined a few Guardian matches earlier today, and there was sooooooo much lag.

I'm trying to improve my wallbounce, but it's just impossible when you teleport all over the place rather than bouncing to the locations you should be. And when your enemy doesn't go down to three to four decently placed Gnasher shots at a fairly close range, you know that something's up.

It's bordering on unplayable in all honesty, and I'm on a 30mb connection which gives me pings of 10 - 30 in Garry's Mod...

Apparantly the servers for Europe are in Ireland, apart from Italy who have their own server. Wouldnt all the countries from Europe be better connecting to Italy or a server on the continent because it doesn't really work currently.Either that or we've been completely b's'ed and all the servers are Europe? Also interesting to know 100mb virgin works for you, im on 20 and my friends on 100, both virgin media, and he gets lag more than me so I think how its set up also effects things not just tbhe most expensive

There are server problems. They need region filters as lots of uk players can't play against Europeans without a lot of lag issues.

I would like to invite DarkAp89 to explain to us UK players a few things . he is the communnity workEr on these forums for Italy. Well I am wondering Why Italy has its own server? I know it did not have at release date, and was something epic added later for the Italian community with darkap89 often been very vocal and helping to make the Italians voice heard. Also, why are the neighbouring countries to Italy playing on our uk sever (different continent) when Italy would surely be a better server choice. The whole uk situation is groslly unfair, espcially when considering Italy has a good server that lets them play fairly . Now I can re say again, I am not asking for our own personal server (like Italy) I just want some basic region filters ( a tick box like what has been on pc games for decades) would do, just let me search for other uk players unjtil it has 5, the match with another 5 uk players. U can even stick us on the Europe server, just region lock us. Now can anyone asnwer why Italy has its own server, why the countries next door to Italy share servers with the uk and Ireland, and why does no one answer uk gamers but Italy they do. Ps. No offense intended, I like dark ap and italias, but I am sick of this thread been ignorede, people been deleted or banned, no officila word from ur man epic, and Italy get everything on a silver platter. I have had 2 threads deleted already for discussing this, but despite that I still want to get to the bottom of the problems folk in the UK are experiencing currently. In the past week or so there has been a sharp increase in lag/rubberbanding and generally the game has become unplayable for me and my friends. Those I don't know who i have been in a lobby with as well, have cited similar concerns about the gameplay.

So Epic please do not delete this thread, as ultimately it will benefit you in the longrun, as we need to establish just how serious a problem there is for UK players right now. It is not fair that the issue be ignored. Something has happened recently, and we need to know what.

There has been this same issue here on the west coast of USA. The sponging is terrible, and i noticed that everyone who sponges is from columbia, mexico, or some other country. This needs to be fixed.

The UK's server is in Ireland. The servers are Microsoft servers Not Epic's.

The region filter uses all servers for EU, pings all the closest games 1st, just like UT,
I expect the French call the Brits sponges when we connect to the ITA servers also...

More servers worldwide would be a good start, but, as the count lowers so will the servers I expect.

If I'm being brutally honest, my connection is often better when I connect to/am hosted by Americans...with the small EU population anyway, I'm sure removing some aspects of the EU region filters would actually do me more good than harm.

I have heard this before mate, could be the servers in US have better specs, less cpu spikes & of course the US networks are mostly all top notch.
