Hey everyone.

Just thought I could make this forum a little easier for my fellow forumers by explaining some of the abbreviations and words utilized in this forum (see post 2 for dictionary) as well as useful links and helpful members

I want to thank skilled for giving me ideas to expand this thread beyond just a dictionary

Please be aware of the fact that these are not words only utilized in the Gears of War universe.


-“/”= Normally means end. For example: /thread = end thread.(Thanks to Salvy)

- @#%$%^*! (or any other cluster ofsymbols) = Someone upset and masking there curse words (Thanks toCGOWAddict)

- #-pointed = Amount of damage dealt to an enemy. Ex: 4-pointed equals full red. (Thanks to Celestial Haven)

- 10char = Short for "10 Characters" which is the minimum for your post body. For example; If you reply to a thread with the word "Yes", you may need to add "(10 char)" if you have nothing else to contribute which can occupy the remaining 7 characters. (Source: Orion. Thanks)

- Active Reload = Reloading faster. You can active reload by pressing [RB]a second time when the slider passes over the reload bar. (http://gearsofwar.xbox.com/en-US/gam...uide-reloading)

- ADS = Aim Down Sight (Thanks to NP473L)

- AF = Adam Fenix (Thanks to Rishy)

- AFK= away from Keyboard (or controller) (thanks to Viking)

- AKA = Also Known As (Thanks to Veteran Gear)

- Aoe - area of effect, when talking about grenade blast/damage radius (thanks to James)

- AR = Assault rifle (Lancer, Retro Lancer and hammerburst.)

- AR = Could also refer to active reload

- Arm rip:an extendable execution normally used against anyone most likely the last one alive. (Thanks to Dvtseeker)

- Atm - at the moment/minute (thanks to James)

- Bag and tag = When having a meatshield, stick a grenade to it and kick it towards an enemy.

- Batman = killing an opponent with a headshot who's sliding into cover (Thanks to Victimizer)

- Blind fire= Shooting without aiming from cover (hip fire when from hip)

- Bodied = Killing someone with one shot. (see gib)

- Boom = Boomshot (granade launcher)

- Boost= Strengthen if talking about gun.

- Boost= Could also refer to the scenario where one or more players play private (often «staged») matches against bots to get achievements, ribbons
and medals.

- BTTE = Brothers to the end = playlist (thanks to Roger9000)

- BTW = By the way.(Thanks to James)

- Buffed=strengthen gun.

- Bump = Keeping the thread active (and on front page) by posting comments saying “bump) etc.

- Cap = short for capture

- Cap: Can also refer to the firing cap of a weapon (the limit of how fast it can be fired). (thanks to Cold Banshee)

- Capping = capturing. Ex: Capping a hill. Be in the ring when it's capped. (thanks to Nefiiria)

- cfabre = Epic's Arch Enemy (Thanks to chuckie)

- Chicken Legs= Commando Dom (thanks to Viking!)

- Clan = Group of players forming a team

- Claw(ing) = Right hand: Thumb = RightStick | Index finger = A, B, X, Y | Middle finger = Right Trigger andBumper http://i.imgur.com/TptGD.png(Thanks to Veteran Gear)

- Clutch = Winning a match by yourself when the odds are against you. (thanks to jmfchuckie)

- Com Dom = Commando Dom (Pre-order Character, or Commando Dom Limited Edition (DLC 4) (Thanks to Veteran Gear)

- Consistent = unchanging in achievement or effect over a period of time (thanks to Gear-Star)

- Cover slip = Quickly slip around cover without having to back up.

- Crawling = after being shot down, but without being entirely dead, you can crawl. (see DBNO)

- Crimson Omen = The red skull (you get it when you die – life indicator - and as a weapon skin.)

- Cringe = Unable to move (after ink) or unable to utilize weapon etc (after stun)

- CTL = Capture The Leader

- CQC = Close Quarter Combat.

- DBNO = Down but not out. In certain game types you can self-revive.

- DBS = Double barreled shotgun = Sawed off shotgun (Thanks to Viking)

- DLC = Downloadable content.

- Dome = Headshot (Thanks to Mist Ghillie)

- DPS = Damage Per Second.(Thanks to NP473L)

- EE = Easter Egg = an intentional hidden message, in-joke, or feature in a video game. (thanks to Veteran Gear)

- EE = Epic Edition (Thanks to Rishy)

- EGFC = EPIC Games Forum Clan. An awesome group of gearheads who do events and things. (Thanks to Viking)

- Elite sawed/sawn off: s.o.s with abayonet (raam shadow dlc). (Thanks to Dvtseeker)

- EPIC = (Awesome) Game developers.

- EST = Eastern Standard Time. Referring to the east coast of America.

- Evade = The maneuver where you roll.

- FFA = Free for all

- FPS= First person shooter

- FTW = For The Win = something is coolor good. Can also mean a game/life winning strategy.

- GAR= Get a room.

- GCON = Gears Community Online Network (GCON). Creates events and content for the Gears of War community. (Thanks to Rishy)

- gg no re = goodgame, no rematch. (Thanks to nunchake)

- Gib = kill someone with one shot (shotgun).

- Gib= Also refers to when your body is blown to pieces.. aka insta-gib from the unreal tournament series (Thanks to woPLrdAY)

- GMT= grenwich main time=time zone for UK (thanks to Viking)

- Hangman = killing an opponent with a headshot while he's jumping over cover (Thanks to Victimizer)

- Hardaiming = Aiming down sight (ADS). (holding down left trigger) (Thanks to CooRsY)

- HB= short for HammerBurst

- HCP = Horde Command Pack (Thanks to a Crunchy Plum)

- Hipfire= shooting from the hip. Not aiming before shooting.

- Hitbox=Where your character will receive damage. It's smaller for the female characters(obviously)

- HOD = Hammer of dawn (thanks to dvtseeker)

- Iceman = refers to a trick shot coined in Gears 1 (by IceMan 8o4) where he would do a side roll then get a pop shot/blindfire headshot with the Longshot. (thanks to TerrorTwilight)

- Iceman = can also refer to two-piecing. (thanks to Victimizer)

- Icwatudidthar = I see what you did there, referring to someone saying they understand a joke. (thanks to CJ 1825)

- Idc = I don't care (Thanks to Victimizer)

- Idk = I don't know.

- IIRC = If I remember correctly (thanks to Firework)

- IKR = I know, right (thanks to Fuzz)

- IMO = in my opinion.

- Imho = in my honest opinion (Thanks to Victimizer)

- Inb4___= Describes that they are posting before a certain event to happen, i.e. inb4theban, inb4thelock, inb4___'scomment (thanks to Chuckie)

- Incen = short for incendiaries.

- Inconsistent = not staying the same throughout time. (thanks to Gear-Star)

- Insta-kill = Instant kill. Killing someone with one shot. Ex: a headshot etc.

- IO = Infected Omen (Weapon skin) (Thanks to Rishy)

-(I)RL = (In) Real Life (Thanks to Yure)

- Ivory: an awesome but difficult to get weapon skin. (Thanks to Dvtseeker)

- Kobe! = refers to a long range, insta-kill incendiary kill. Preferrably a blind toss in the air, but an aimed throw is just as good as long as it's far (thanks to

- KoTH= King of The Hill

- KS = Killstealing.

L

- Lag= Bad connection/internet resulting in latency issues etc.

- LB = Left bumper (Thanks to Victimizer)

- LE = Limited Edition

- Lead Shot = Aiming your cursor headlevel and let the player walk into the shot.(Thanks to Gear-Star)

- Lefty swap =maneuver involving cover to make the character hold the gun on theleft side of the body, instead of the right side. (Thanks tonunchake)

-Leroy Jenkins = one who runs towards the enemy with guns blazing.(Thanks to Dvtseeker23)

- LGS = Liquid green skin (Weapon skin) (Thanks to tyrvas)

- LMAOSHMSFOAIDMT = laughing my arse off so hard my sombrero fell off and i dropped my taco. (Thanks to Firework)

- LMO = Last man out (Thanks to Tyrvas)

- LOL =Laughing out loud (often used ironically or to mock).

-Lone wolf = someone playing solo/alone.

- LQTM = Laughing Quietly To Myself (Thanks to Viking)

- LT = Left trigger.

M

- Mantle kick = Jump over cover and kick the opponent on the other side.

- MB = Mechanic Baird (Pre-order Character, or Mechanic Baird Limited Edition (DLC 4) (Thanks to Veteran Gear)

- Map control = controlling key points and/or power weapons on the map

- Meatshield = Grab an opponent as a living shield to sponge up some bullets.

- Mech Baird = Mechaninc Baird (Thanks to tyrvas)

- Melee = Hit your opponent. Retro lancer has bayonet and Lancer has chainsaw as melee attacks.

- Minitage = Just like a Montage, but a shorten version of it. (Thanks to Veteran Gear)-Mobs = Enemies (Thanks to Yure)

- Montage =Compilation of many nice kills etc in a video.

- Mutators = Special settings in Horde mode or Arcade Campaign making it harder, easier or fun.

N

- Nades = short for grenades (most often frag grenades)

- Nerf= weaken.

- Ninja - Very fast forum post replyer. For example, if Tao Devil replies before you do then you;ve been Ninja'd! ( Thanks to DJ AL)

- Noob/Newb= Someone new to the game. Can also be used if you play as if new to the game.

O

- OMG = Oh my God (thanks to Vetetran Gear)

- OP = Over Powered

- OP = Original poster, referring to the opening post of a thread.

- One-piece = kill someone with one shot (shotgun)

P

- Party = Multiple people playing together and communicating in a “party”.

- Payton Manning = Getting a headshot with the boomshot. (Rattlehead)

- Pop-shot = Quickly aiming right before shooting (so your aim “pops” in and out again)

- Power weapons = Weapons giving you the upper hand. Explosives, snipers etc.

- PST = Pacific Standard Time. Time zone of the west coast of America (Oregon, Washington, California etc) (Thanks to Nefiiria)

- Public match= same as quick match (correct me if I'm wrong)

- Push = aggressive attack often utilizing smokes and/or shotguns

Q

- Q&A = Questions & Answers(Thanks to Veteran Gear)

- QM = Quick match = Faster matches with easier opposition.

-QFN - Quoted for Notice (Thanks to MxcnPro)

- QFT = Quoted for truth. (Thanks to iGodz || DraGon)

R

- Ragdolls = oneversion of gears 2 smoke grenades that made your character fall over.(Thanks to nunchake)

- Rage quit = When someone leaves agame in anger (after losing, often blaming lag/sponging) (Thanks toCogthrasher)

- Ragetage = A montage made out of oneperson's raging. (thanks to Cold Banshee)

- Randoms= People you play with who aren't in your game party, and who you joined with randomly. (thanks to WoundsOfDeath)

- Ranked match = Harder opposition, more team-based (more than possible for lone wolves as well)

- RB = Right bumper (Thanks to Victimizer)

- Re-up = prestige mode (if familiar with Call of Duty): You can reach level 100 more than one time.

- RL = Retro Lancer

- (I)RL = (In) Real Life (Thanks to Yure)

- ROF = Rate of fire (Thanks to mikeydude00)

- ROFL= Rolling on floor laughing (Often used to mock)

- RS= Right stick

- RS = RAAM's Shadow (Thanks to A Crunchy Plum)

- RT = Right trigger

- SB = Silverback, an armored mountable vehicle with two legs and two arms, right arm armed with machine gun, left one with missiles (Thanks to Veteran
Gear)

- SKRAAM = The ultimate troll boss, created on the forums a few years back. Skorge and RAAM combined together, it also has balls on it's chin for good measure. (Thanks to Rishy!)

- Scrim= is basically a clan match apart from its not ranked. (competitive teams practice with scrims)

- SGE = Savage Grenadier Elite

- SK = Savage kantus

- SMH=shaking my head.- Solid = Favor. Ex:“Do me a solid” (thanks to Time Victim)

- SOS= short for Sawed-off shotgun

- Spawn trapping = Stopping the opposing team from moving away from spawn.

- Spiderman = killing an opponent with a headshot who's coming out of a roll (Thanks to Victimizer)

- Sponging= A result of lag, letting the opponent walk away unharmed from point-blank shots.

- Spotting= Show your team where the enemy is located. To spot, aim at your enemy and press LS

- Stacked team = Team full of good (high leveled) players who communicate and cooperate well

- Strafe = Atype of movement which consists of a player moving from side to sideand dodging shots. (Thanks to Gear-Star)

- Stun= character unable to move (after ink) or unable to shoot etc (after smoke)

- Superman = killing an opponent with a headshot who's starting a roll (Thanks to Victimizer)

- SWAT turn = Quickly change from your cover to an adjacent cover.

- Sweaties - People who tryhard and wallbounce ridiculously to scare you. (Thanks to MxcnPro12)

- Sweep Shot = Quickly dragging yourcursor over a players head and taking an shot. (Thanks to Gear-Star)

T

- TBH = To Be Honest (Thanks to VeteranGear)

- TC=Thread Creator (thanks to TAO Devil)

- TDM = Team DeathMatch.

- Teardrop = Shooting/killing with thetorque without fully charging/loading it. Often far away. (Thanks toNunchake)

- TIH = The Insane Horde = Massive group consisting of more than 270 members (Thanks to NI Locust)

- Tl;dr = Too long, didn't read. (thanks to Nonoru)

- Torque = Torque bow (the bow with explosive tip)

- TPS = Third person shooter (Thanks to Victimizer)

- Trade = Where 2 people in a battle kill each other at the same time (Thanks to GreenArrows)

- Trickshot = Getting a headshot with aTorque Bow, leading to a double kill (Thanks to Veteran Gear)

- Troll = Often refered to as agenerally unproductive member who makes irrelevant comments and/orthreads. (Thanks to mikey dude00)

- TU = Title update.

- Tweaks = Changes (for the better)

- Two Piece = Hit, stun opponent, shoot (not possible as you get stunned when hitting). Most often refered to when bayonet charging without instantly
killing then spraying wildly with the RL.

- Update = Where 2 people in a battle kill each other at the same time (Thanks to DJ Carnival)

- VG = Veteran Gear (Thanks to tyrvas)

W

- Wallbounce = Sliding/bouncing from wall to wall/cover to cover (Thanks to Veteran Gear)

- Weapon skins = Design/camouflage for your guns.

I think it would be a good idea to separate the game specific acronyms from the general acronyms.
Keep in mind that the Gears part of the forum is not the only part of the Epic Games forum and so if there was a new forum user - let's say a Infinity Blade player or a Unreal Tournament player - they would have to go through the post and find the general acronyms as the Gears-specific acronyms are not useful for him unless he will decide to buy and play Gears someday. For example, to gib someone means "to splatter someone" in the Unreal Tournament community, not necessarily the same as in Gears as it is not always one shot but can be caused through the second or third of the Rocket Launcher missiles you just shot.

PS: IKR means "I know right".
