Exclamation Neca Gears 3 Figures @ Toy Fair '12

Figures.com just posted Neca's Gears of War 3 figure assortment & misc. merchandise at this year's Toy Fair in New York. Unfortunately, there's nothing really new to show besides Series 3 that's already been announced. Check it out here.

Thanks for the pictures. I'm still annoyed that they're releasing another Marcus and two virtually identical Savage Therons. Takes me back to the old days of Series 2. At least the two headsculpts on the Theron Guards then were completely different.

The Theron heads are completely different helmets, so I dunno how you can compare it to series 2 Therons, where it was the same head, one with a helmet covering it, one without. They're still 2 different Therons, just like series 2's were.

The Marcus is a bit of a waste though since we've already had a Gears 3 one released twice now. Sure he's different, but I preferred him as an exclusive where we were meant to be guaranteed the Golden Retro.

Series 3 is definately an economical one for them as all of the figures are using old sculpts. The Therons are from Gears series 2, just with new heads, the cog soldier is Baird with a new head, and marcus is well marcus, with a few parts new. Hopefully we get more waves this year, although I only see them going upto series 4 this year. S3 is due June, so add the typical 2-3 month gap between toys, and you're talking September ish for S4, leaving little room to churn out a S5 before Christmas.

They need to really invest in the line and in boxsets. In doing so, you could rapidly get out Horde's of Locust characters, and to some extent cog figures although the cog would be more expensive to produce as more unique tooling is required for them.
TBH though, it'd help to get more than 3-4 figures per series like McFarlane does with Halo.

I was pretty disappointed that it was literally everything we saw before then to top it off the cog soldier wasn't even at the showing. I was really hoping for some wretches or the other boomers hopefully there will be a good SDCC exclusive and future series revealed at it as well

    Unhappy

I'll admit that I'm underwhelmed. These were the same figures that we saw at SDCC '11 minus the Journey's End Marcus Fenix which was supposed to be the show's exclusive until Epic put the kiboosh on it. It would have kept the fans at bay if Neca showed some prototypes like they usually did on past TFs. After all, Toy Fair is the toy industry's equivalent to E3. Even though I've stated time and time again that Neca has a ton of other lines, it would have been reassuring to show the Grinder (even the helmet & Mulcher), Jack, & the Gears 3 COG soldier (new helmet on the Baird figure). As it is, Series 3 won't hit until around the end of spring. SDCC is a bit of a stretch to see what they have in store for 2012. Darn.

Yea this toy fair made me kinda feel like they pushed Gears to the side and mainly focused on all the Valve stuff. I know they have other stuff to work on but a lot of random franchises they work on i see catching dust on store shelves but can never find a gears figure to save my life so i would expect them to represent this successful franchise even more at this toy fair. I kinda felt cheated since they kept hyping the gears on twitter each time someone asked them stuff just to show us something we saw for almost a year already.

I asked NECA about Therons late last month, and to one question, they replied with "maybe in a future Theron boxset". While this doesn't say they are 100% definately making it, it does show that they still have boxsets on their mind.
