    Default Shulu Wrath of a Fallen Warrior Level 1 Stage 1 Update



    In this video you will notice that the vamp from ym Blood King game is in here.
    Well Since I'm not doing Blood King anymore at the moment
    It was just a character that needed to be put to work.
    At the end of the the little flight hallway, there will be a dragon battle.
    I forgot I need more camera shakes. I really need better music. I make my own music, but I need better. lol.
    Look into that later.

    Video has some descriptions.

    Aaaaaaaaaaalllrighty. Back to Zombie game. I was planning on working on zombie game tomorrow,
    but I will do some today and make the whole day for tomorrow about developing an actual zombie.

    Shulu Wrath of The Fallen Warrior (What is Game 1 About?)

    So the point and idea of game one is that Shulu/main character heard of what is called the Spirit Cryslin,
    which is the most powerful weapon in the universe.
    Shulu heard that it was a challenge to obtain such a weapon, so he decided to take on the challenge.
    Even though Shulu is the son of a king, Shulu is forced to be in a tournament for his fathers kingdom
    to prove to his people and father that he is fit to be the next king.
    Through time Shulu became very confident that he would win the tournament so he decided to find a better way
    to prove to his father that he is more than worthy to be king.
    Also to prove that he is more of a warrior than his own father. When Shulu heard about the Spirit Cryslin
    he decided to take on such a journey before the tournament began and to arrive at his father's feet with the Spirit Cryslin.
    It is a journey to kill 6 protectors. They are all protectors of 6 keys in which must be placed in the hidden door
    that guards the Spirit Cryslin.

    Things you do in game.

    So basically you travel from area to area defeating bosses.
    Boss 1 is King Shimo, boss 2 will be a huge dragon, boss 3 will be a huge gorilla, 4,5, and six, not sure of just yet.
    Focusing on 1 at the moment.
    All areas will be different, and there will be a short gap from you to the boss in which you
    tackle side enemies such as the spider creatures you will see.
    For example level 2, you run along the ground towards a towering area of dragons,
    but creatures spring from the lava at you. Your destination won't be far for each level. For level 2 you will be flying a dragon,
    and taking down other dragons. I finally got my enemies to fly. Whoo hoo!
    The last level you pick up a flying power. So you will basically be flying around without dragon, like Superman/dragonball Z.
    I've spent my time getting things to work like I want it, now that I have them working, I'm looking forward to bringing them to life.


    Backstory


    As far as back story, in the game before each level there is a character talking to younger Shulu under a tree. He tells you of the story
    of how the Cryslin came to be. The visual of this is a flip book with words, images and voice over narrative. Much like Trine 2.
    Just with more animation and pictures with the book.



    You guys are going to notice a few things that need to be fixed, but trust me I'm on it. Not so much worried about sound right now.

    Day 1 WIP 02/07/2012

    As of now today, I only did the default animation for Shulu.The idle and jump. Took away the double jump.
    The first environment/level will consist within that cave much like my really old videos of Shulu, there will be a puzzle to open the giant door.

    Old Example (Warning video is super loud)

    Going to redo and put this at the base of cave and do those type birds again and you follow that path, but it will be some sort of key you need to collect to open the door at top of cave. Which is difficult to get to because of
    broken bridge. Creature is in water.



    Tommorrow I'm going to do the melee attacks, and then the first weapon attacks, which will be a power shooting from hand. I have the first tiny
    enemies already done, so I will try to get a lot done tomorrow.

    Veryyyy cool!! I love the lighting in the environment, you wouldn't think those colours would necessarily fit together but they work perfectly in the scene. Cool puzzle too! Looking forward to more updates. Possibly more puzzles?

    Day 2 WIP 02/09/2012



    This is actually day 2. Just counting actual days that I work on game.
    So overall I have most of the hard sometimes annoying parts done.
    I have some tweeking to do on key press because the button, it's stuck
    with the shooting action sometimes.
    Even so, the first tiny annoying enemy is done, Their just spider like creatures
    called Gropkins that you don't want to touch in the game.
    I'm able to kill them, so now I need them to kill me, which means I need to get
    started on a Scaleform Menu. Just a health menu for now, because I want to get to fleshing
    out this cave with props and such.


    White Paper Games and MQE I don't know if you guys know that that environment is an very old
    one, around when I first started with Unreal.
    I had lost the files. So now that I'm jumping back to PC games, I wanted to try to redo that scene, but
    make it a bit better. Glowing mushrooms and all.

    Today or tommorrow I will have most of the environment for inside the cave done.
    I just need to get the menu, attacks, and first enemies taken care of.

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalrighty then folks--By the end of the day I should have a health menu which
    should kill me and restart level. Then I will get to modeling rocks and such, filling up the cave.

    Day 3 WIP 02/11/2012





    Oky Doky. Day 3 of working on game. Boy oh boy did I have a tough time getting a working
    health bar system going.
    Whoooooooof. I haven't done it in a while. Things were not going right for me at all.
    I got something going for now.

    I was thinking to make it trigger based player health derease
    but I think I will just set a uscript for "on touch".
    That will save me the trouble of doing it in kismet. I can get that done real quick.
    So the next thing I'm going to do is start getting my menus set up. Pause , Exit, Main etc.
    Basically set up my keyboard configurations and inputs. Sounds like fun.

    So those things will be called my day 4.

    Hopefully day 4 don't leak over to day 5. I want to get on modeling and stuff on Day 5.

    Your work speed is pretty much unprecedented, really nice job. And yeah, rule of thumb is if you're gonna use something more than twice (like the healthbar and whatever implications the health decrease brings) do it in script instead of kismet

    Day 4 and 5 WIP 02/14/2012


    A lot has happened in the past few days. I had lost all my files trying to fix someone else's computer, but I just recovered everything today.
    I have the main menu, which load to first level, I have Exit menu, I have inventory Menu as well, *and also when I die I restart level.
    Today I decided to do some environment. I will have a video tonight showing all I have so far.
    I should have did some concept before I started the cave, but I'm going to see what my brain comes up with.
    The cave will get better as I go and I will add more props.

    02/22/2012 WIP




    WhoooooooooooooooooooH! It's been a minute. I've been busy though.
    I was really angry at scaleform for a minute, but I'm over the anger now.
    WhooooooooSaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

    So basically I've been working on getting the level looking how it did over a year ago
    and then take it from there to make it better.

    What is in Level 1. In level one, it's simple.

    :A short matinee showing you walk in front of screen. Shulu says "Looks like the only way out of here.--British Accent"

    :Camera cuts and zoom to giant door--now player starts.

    : You the player have to pull all levers, but the spiderlike creatures are coming from the base of the rocks slowing you down a bit.

    : When all levers are pulled, loud tremble and roar--giant beast rises out of water.

    : It's attack system is that it stands tall in the water as it reaches down to smash you. Spider like
    creatures still get in your way.

    : The only way to hurt it is by hitting it in head with your special attack. Not the sword.

    : When you kill it, it falls in water with matinee, and camera cuts to behind you view as you command dragon creature
    to land in front of you. "You speak a language only it an understand to control it. This one has armor on.

    : Camera cuts to Giant door as it opens.

    : Camera cuts to Shulu behind view as he jumps high in the air as the dragon creature takes off and lands on back
    of it then heads through doorway.


    End Level 1.


    What I have to do tomorrow is do a sword. Then set up the attachments. Then do a sword attack and special attack.
    Sword attack is a simple swipe attack. The special is a stab ground with sword, and rocks fly in air around player and whatever
    is in that range will be killed.
    This is what's going to hurt that boss. Sword is for spiders, in this level.
    Then I have to do the switching of modes. Normal mode without sword, and then if you have the sword, your able to run faster
    and your running animation is different.
    So you will be switching with that in your inventory menu.



    I will be taking levels from the pc version of Shulu and converting to IOS. So if one level is long then I will
    make that level a game for the IOS. To chop the IOS series in chapters.
    Anyway back to work.

    02/26/2012 WIP






    I'm still at it. I'm going to finish up the menu's and do the attack animation for sword mode. I will tweek the animation when I'm done.
    This is the packaged game that your watching, cooked and everything. There is a short matinee that will happen after the load screen as well
    that I have to do, but no rush. I might be gone for a while again, but I will have plenty more done next video.

    Thanks--I will. I was thinking of getting rid of the voice over though. It's a lot to keep up with especially since I have crappy microphone.
    I'm thinking of just keeping the subtitles. Yet keep the sound effects such as the growls and hit sounds. Definitely keep music playing.
    I just don't know about the voice overs.
    I know some games do hat such as a few role playing games, but I don't want it to be a fatal move.
    I will figure it out later.

    04/13/2012 Update


    I did quite a bit in the past 3 days. I started an outside level. Once I created a basic tree,
    things started falling into place for the environment. Right now I'm working on the city and making it active while at the same time duplicating trees throughout the terrain to fill things up. Alrighty--less talking more working.

    04/16/2012 Update


    I did quite a few things. I can't explain them all right now. I'm going to work on those tree
    huts more because there will be an individual round walkway attached to each hut as a place to park their flying creatures.
    I will also work on dragon animation and player animation as well later.
    Right now it's all about the environment and fleshing out all the places the player will go in the game.

    This will be the city you explore and uncover the keys. There will be a lot more stuff
    in the environment so it's kind of empty now.
    I did this whole environment and models yesterday. I'm about to go to sleep, my eyes are burning.

    04/19/2012 Update

    I know I keep changing things but it's always for the better. I redid Shulu. The other one was too crappy looking. I spent 2 days rigging him off and on so tomorrow I will be animating Shulu with new fighting animation and setting him up with the new dragon again.
    I will setup the fighting modes as well, then I will start on enemy dragons and get that working, so
    that they fly and attack me. Then I shoot them and they spin out of control and fall to their death type deal like I did with spiders.
    Anyway it's all about animation tomorrow and setting up fighting modes again.

    05/01/2012 Update

    This stage is basically a how to play stage that you can play at the main menu of the game. You will have the Play game button or training button. If you press training it will take you here. There are things I need to do next which is animate the enemy dragon mouth and have fireballs shoot out of them, so that the enemy shoots at player as well. Also I have to put a sword in his hand. This stage will be a demo download soon.

    That's Shulu in the video. For this game he has to collect the keys to open the door where the Spirit Cryslin is hidden. That's another adventure.
    For this one it is simple.
    Shulu has to head to the giant mountain that holds the keys. The mountain is being guarded by many Red Gwill dragons.
    So you must take them down.
    In the mountain I think I will make 3 doors that leads to 3 different paths/adventure ending with a boss and collecting a key. Just really simple.
    Paths with puzzles, jumping, and annoying enemies.

    The iPhone game will be the dragon fighting. I haven't really come across a dragon flight game on iphone so I will give it a try.
    This demo in this video is me testing flight and ground combat, before I move ahead to the first level dragon battle.
    When I do the first dragon battle level, I will convert it to iPhone.

    I just need to finish up a few things today then I will setup this demo for download so folks can test Shulu's combat and such.

    I think the camera needs to pan out more when he is on the dragon, having the character fill up all that screen space seems like a bad design choice. Shifting the camera up and back would allow for more vision of the surrounding area as well as giving it a more epic look, when you flew up really high in that video the grandeur of the landscape was lost because the camera was still intimately close to the character, putting the focus on him instead of the game world around him.

    I adjusted it a little in this video like you suggested by moving camera up a little and back, but I don't want to do it too much though. I kind of like how it is, and it only gets close when he flies up with environment out of view.


    Okay today I have to put the sword in his hand and I also have to do the effects when player hits enemy with sword. I want a slow effect.

    This is Shulu and the spirit cryslin.
    Only this game is before he gets the cryslin.
    The creator of the cryslin wants you to find 3 keys
    To open the door to where it is hidden, which is
    on another planet of course.
    Yet on this planet resides the 3 keys, 3 bosses.
    I can't type too much. I'm doing this From my iPod which
    Really sucks.

    So in this video I played with a few things and even added as well.
    I'm working on adding more ruins.
    Those lit blue doorways are like portals which will take you to some sort of destination in the mountain.
    There will be 3 doorways.
    The third is by the water but I want to *do something special for that area tomorrow.
    Anyway I will have a lot more done tomorrow.

    So in this video I did many more ruins. Today I will be finishing up this entire outside scene by adding a few more props and working on some various rocks.
    Then I'm going to work on a first person mode.
    Currently key 1 is for default sword mode, and key 2 is for dragon flight mode.
    Well for key 3 I want it to be for first person shoot mode. That way you only see the player hand while he shoots power attack.
    So after I do all this I need to work on outside guardians.
    There will be giant guards guarding the doors near start up area. Their harmless.
    Except the one near the water.

    So for this video I have added first person view. I then adjusted the dragon texture and POV.
    Fp view has a sword power attack.
    Also I added a Meter for the fp attack *including a few other things.

    The next thing I have to do is a character that guides you through the game.

    There have been a lot of things that I've added. I've been lazy this month. I was busy working but I'm still keeping at it. This is the first level. I'm going to play with the environment a little bit more and then put some enemies in here.
    I have a few in mind such as some venomous plant creatures in the dark cave parts and some spider webs in some areas in which those spiders I have in my other videos with be coming from.
    Also there will be bigger walking creatures that attack you as well.
    I decided to give the player the ability to turn into dragon instead of him riding one, and you will have that ability at start of game. Only for each level there will be some restrictions as far as flight parameters. Like it will be ill advised to fly over fog as giant tentacle creatures will automatically extend from the fog and kill you instantly. This will keep you in bound.

    There is a lot that has to be done but it will get there.

    I forgot to post screen shots. Haven't done it in a while. I just created those plant nests. They actually open up.
    I decided to put the spider creatures in them so when you get close to a plant nest, the spider creatures come out of them. I might just make the plant nests do different things to surprise player. Maybe one might shoot poison darts. So kill as many as you can to collect health back.
