    Default Tutorials by TorQue[MoD]

    Hi all,

Decided to create a thread dedicated to tutorials that I have or will write on game design with UDK. The latest tutorial will always be mentioned at the top of the thread to make it easier to find. This will also serve as a place where you can ask questions or make comments on all of my tutorials so I'll be sure to check back here on a daily basis.

Low Poly grass model Part 2:

Wind Pre-sets for SpeedTree: - I created several wind pre-sets for everyone to use. Basically this will make it easier to control how much you want your trees to sway in the wind in game. The pre-sets should make things a lot faster as I pretty much covered every possible strength of wind.

Thank you. Trying to sort out my recording issues so I can get part 2 finished. Fixed the problems with my mic, now I have to see about fixing the video.

Use windows media encoder 64 bit edition...Its faultless and free....
Cam studio, camtasia and the other various screen recording packages out there are seriously inferior to windows media encoder..
    I've used them all

Are you just suggesting that I use the WMV 9 codec when recording with Cam Studio etc. or are you saying that this is the name of a program for recording the screen? Cause all google brings up when you search WME 64 bit edition is the wmv codec info or Windows Live Essentials. I'm confused :P

So I downloaded the WME program from your website, but there's no option for recording from the desktop. I even googled a tutorial and it shows a wizard that says record desktop, but its not present in this version. Any idea where I can get an update or how to set it up manually?

    Thanks!

Ok so I got WME working (Thanks for the video Lex) but its not really a very useful program. Firstly I'm running two monitors and even though I set the recording resolution to 1920 x 1080, its actually recording both screens, and then re-scaling everything down to 1920x1080 which obviously isn't good. Also it keep crashing when I load 3D Studio max or anything moderately intense with UDK like destroying a PhysX object and comes back with the error "the encoding process was unable to keep up with the amount of supplied data." Thanks for the suggestion, but I think I'm gonna have to figure out how to get CamStudio's codec working.

OK my friend...Just out of curiosity, how much ram have you got and what chip ?
I can run the software with dual monitors, two sessions of 3ds max open ,UDK, Photoshop,Adobe after effects, audacity, also using the screen recorder etc all at the same time with no lag!
I have sixteen gig of ram and six core phenom chip but a really crap graphics card

I do agree though the programme is a little odd with its limitations, but compared to the latest camstudio BETA, I would never go back....Its impossible to sink audio with camstudio and very buggy!
If you have some money to spend I'd say use Camtasia!

Yeah I actually do own a copy of Camtasia 6... just managed to get it working again by downloading a codec called Laggarithic or something like that. Also finally fixed my sound issues... the mic boost was adding a load of noise so I played with the volume settings and finally got that sorted too.

I've got a 6 core i7 970 and 24 gigs of ram so its definitely not my system being too slow :P

Although I've been having a motherboard issue and just noticed lately that there's a lot of slowdown on my system so once I get that replaces under RMA and re-install windows things should work a lot better. Thanks for all the help though.

I've recently been using a nifty little recording program called BBFlashBack Express, It's a whole lot better with recording games and other on screen activity, because with most other programs you will get lag, like with Camtasia I'd always get terrible lag in game videos. You can also do video editing inside the program, but with some limitations on the Express (free) version.

Now that I finally got Camtasia working, I don't want to mess with things any more, but its great to know about that program. It looks awesome!
