It's gotta be Bailing Marcus outta the slab? Surely!?
Without risking his career as a COG soldier to rescue Marcus, none of these events would of happened, and Raam and his army would no doubt have conquered Sera? His act was risky and one which has potentially saved the human race...Euthanizing his wife was a necessity as she wouldn't have made it through life due to her physical and mental scars...Not to mention she may have died from illness anyway? Killing himself was slightly cowardly and I don't think it was exactly needed...Had he of jumped when Marcus told him to they probably could of fought there way out of it, he basically just committed suicide cos he couldn't bare the war any more? It might have been necessary to help them survive but I wouldn't class it as a brave act, more of a selfless one...But we'll never know whether they'd have survived anyway..
Killing Maria. God bless you Dom![]()

I love music. I play the drums when I am not on XBL. Been playing for close to 3 years. I'm easy going, hit me up any time, any day, and I'll more than likely play GoW with you, if not I'll make it a point to invite you later on when I have time.
Taking care of Maria I guess. It was very brave of him to do that.
Killing his poor wife Maria after searching for her for so long.. R.I.P Dom and Maria.
He was pretty brave to dome his wife with a magnum pistol rofl...will someone please explain that to me? The only cutscenes in the entire trilogy (off the top of my head) that doesn't show the Gears with lancers are the scenes in Gears 2 where Marcus gives Tai a gnasher and when Dom kills Maria. He might as well have just picked up one of the boomshots from a recent battle and finished her off that way.

Dominic has the hardest life in all of the Gears characters in my opinion. First off, his older brother, who was Marcus' best friend, is dead. His kids were killed during E-day. He has to watch Tai kill himself, who was also like an older brother, by a shotgun to the head. He has to kill his wife with a Boltok pistol, which quite literally explodes heads in the Gears universe. All his crops that he took care of (which can have an emotional attachment, it was something he was a care giver for and helped keep his mind off his trouble life) are burned up on the ship at the beginning of Gears 3. He visits Maria and his home town to find all the residents basically turned into zombies and the town completely massacered. Then he happens to cross Marias grave unintentionally because that is the route they have to take to finish their objective. Followed by sacrficing himself to save his squad.
Wtf.. no one else in the Gears world has anything nearly as traumatic as this.
Dom is a very valiant solider, and all of the things he's done required courage and will power to carry out regardless if it was the smart thing to do or not. Honestly, killing someone who you truly love, especially years of searching for that person, will scar you for life and forever change your views on life if it's worth living anymore, which Dom made clear.
He became a farmer. A very brave thing to do considering the current economic climate.

I suck with the judgment Gnasher and I can admit that. You don't see me complaining about the gun.
Some of these answers are hilarious. I'm stumped on whether it's going through kryll-infested darkness with only a spotlight to guide you(I mean seriously, that spotlight could have gone out at any moment!), growing a beard despite everyone trying to keep a clean-shaven face, or becoming a farmer despite the economic turmoil.
But on a serious note, I think it was sacrificing himself so they could all get away. If you're a human at all, you can feel the emotion going through him at that moment. How he could have taken off and been the only one to survive, but instead he sacrifices himself so he can save his family. It's very emotional, and every time I play that part of the campaign I have to skip that scene so I don't start tearing up.![]()

I'd say a tie between sacrificing himself and euthanizing his wife.

Shooting his wife in the face.
First is small potatoes by comparison to what they normally tend to do in games.
Third is just a dumb thing to do.
I honestly preferred Gears 3 before all of the silly updates. Everything was just better for players who didn't whore Multiplayer, and liked that every weapon had it's place. At least in my opinion.
Appreciation to the Cole Train: Now I have a Commando Dom
Its hard to see how the person you love its suffering and its even more hard to take away that pain for her so...
Maria... Tough thing to do.
Not sacrificing himself though, probably wasn't hard, didn't have much to live for at that point.

Euthanized Maria was the most heart-breaking saddest thing a man could have done to his wife to let her out of her misery/suffer.
Out the Blue!
Rescuing a friend is easy but killing something you love... is on an whole other level...

Has to be the euthanization of Maria, followed closely by his sacrifice in Mercy. Epic did a good job depicting Dom's gradual emotional breakdown throughout the series. He went from a charismatic commando in gears 1 to the broken but still capable veteran in gears 3. If you paid attention to the details in the campaign, you could actually recognize that Dom had gone though the different Stages of Grief (shock/denial, pain/guilt, anger/frustration, depression/reflection, reconciliation/acceptance)...not sure if Dom ever reached the last stage though.
def driving the truck into the tanks.
Personally, I believe that the act of trading his own life for those of his squadmates pales next to his decision to end Maria's life.
CHOISE is what distinguishes these two sacrifices. When they were surrounded and at the brink of being overrun, Dom acted more on logic and the soldier's instinct. It was one death vs. five (yes, i didn't forget dizzy). They were under exigent circumstances and Dom did not have the luxury of time to contemplate his decision. He acted on instinct and with valor.
On the other hand, he had plenty of time to decide the fate of his beloved wife and yet he chose the hardest but most selfless path.
