Default How can i get better at Gears 3's multiplayer?

I have been running online on my own lately and have been having trouble holding my own and winning 1v1's. I cant wall bounce in a fight but can outside of one, how can i improve my skill?

    1) Use only Lancer and Gnasher, so no retro or Hammerburst (at least until they fix those Fenix Rising bugs),
    2) use 90% of your time only Gnasher and
    3) try to keep close to your team mates. And don't steal kills.

I dont steal kills to start because then hopefully they dont nick mine but i understand staying close to team mates, safety in numbers eh? Does sensitivity and alternate control scheme effect it?

I think when everyone first learns how to wallbounce its easy to do without pressure, but once in the heat of battle your mind goes blank....dont worry about it. Keep trying and eventually it will come naturally. Also a good strafe is essential in GOW3.

Check this link for tips on both. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YV-3QRnn9OM

For wallbouncing you need your look sensitivity as high as possible. Most (like me) use 20. Alternate probably makes short quick wallbouncing more consistant, but it also has its problems too. Basically there are top level players who use both control systems.

Yeah and if you can master is a VERY useful evasion tool on GOW3. Check the link, 'LikeButter' has a great strafe.

A matter of personal preference. Try different settings and ask advice from your friends. First you get a hang of one style or gun, and in time you develop some skill in all of those guns. And how to act in different situations is a matter of experience. You don't have to work for it: it comes naturally in time as you play. You'll learn easily when your having fun.

But at the moment the game is messed up because of the issues caused by the Fenix Rising DLC. So it's best to keep that in mind for the time being.

Sorry just edited that post. I meant 'look' sensitivity. 'aim' has nothing to do with wallbouncing really.

    1) Strafe A LOT. Thats just moving from side to side. It really does help.
    2) Find out what are your preffered settings. I use 20, 20, 20 and have done from nearly the start. Its easy to get used to and really helps.
    3) Watch some videos on youtube and try to mirror their techniques and moves. There are plenty by LikeButer, Yamimash, Arctic etc
    4) Just keep practicing wallbouncing, you'll soon get better
    5) Pop-shot, Pop-shot, Pop-shot, Pop-shot, POP-SHOT! Really helps. There are plenty of tutorials on youtube that can prpbably help better than I can.

    Good luck

I'm just wondering but if say a character looks like someone special to you then would playing as them therefore make you play better or not?

    Use Shotguns Only? NO

This is what makes people suck at gears. Yes you need to be skilled with the shotgun to get out of tightspots. But I'd say switch em around. If you see an enemy coming towards you. Shoot him with your lancer. If he doesnt have cover or fall back you will down him and get an easy kill. But if he has got cover. Push forward and dont let him heal. But keep your distance cause chances are he either has a shotgun out or a retro. So if you must, keep shooting till you make contact with him. Dont be afraid to push an enemy. I've seen it happen so many times. Someone damages an enemy so much that a bullet from anything at any distance will get him down. But they're too afraid to push so the enemey heals up his health then comes round the corner and blows you away.

But think before you act. ... Think bout these things before you go to take on an enemy

Is he using a Retro/Sawn off?
Has he just Active reload that Gnasher?
Is your Team around to help?
Is HIS Team there to help?
Do I really need to kill this enemy?

Dont take your time thinking about them. They should just pop into your head. Seeing an enemy run behind a corner then his footsteps stop making a sound. You should know straight away that he is waiting for you. Its ideas like this that keep you alive.

So just Practice and be aware of your surroundings Give it a while and you should become an average player or even one who is skilled in the game...

    That is awful advice.

1.) Use whatever loadout you feel most comfortable with. If you like having extra CQC options, go Retro. If you want to give covering fire, have the luxury of stopping power and have a very user friendly gun, go Lancer. If you want range capabilities, go Hammy. SOS is best avoided, it's a crutch weapon and won't help you against good players.

2.) Judge each situation and play accordingly. Don't hold preference for one weapon, make use of everything at your disposal, including the Snub.

3.) Make sure you can cover your teammates. You don't necessarily need to be near them. Firing two or three HB rounds can save your teammates' life.

High sensitivity is a must. If you can't react to that guy behind you, you're gone. Also keep your enemy in the center of the screen before you gib em

Does the character your playing as make you perform better? Say if their one you like or someone who looks like someone close to your heart or something, would they necessarily make you play better?

It's possible that could have a subconscious effect on your play, but the difference is usually minimal. I do tend to play poorly when I use Kim though. I can do fine with any other character, but I play terrible with him for some reason. No idea why.

That happen's to me, only its with bernie and any other cog, I'll decide to use kim or something to give people a shot at foreshadowing, then I'll see someone using bernie, and switch to her next game.

Honestly the only advice I can give is practice. I've been playing gears since gears 1, so Im used to alot of the required skills needed in gears. But when I started playing gears 1 back in 2007 (I got it late). I'd get raped repeatedly, I didn't give up though, I'd learn by watching others play and adapting to that.

I started getting better results when I stopped being so stubborn and knew when to piss off, regroup, get some health back and go back in.

Learn how to wallbounce, Then learn how to pop shot. Also strafing( I hate it, i use it as a counter to gang bangers )

Here is a thread I created. It got input from Gnasher Only users, Lancer, Hammerburst. Well rounded and nobody hated on anyone. So it contains a lot of positive and good advice.

The main page contains the information and strategy I felt make a strong player. Hope this helps @OP http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/...joining-alone)

This is a good advice. In other words: don't go into a fight you know you can not win (unless you can't escape).

Until they fix those bugs caused by the Fenix Rising DLC (including the lack of stopping power in Hammerburst and Retro), I strongly recommend to use only Lancer / Gnasher and mostly just Gnasher.

Being good at Gears of War is as much strategy as it is skill. If you want to win the majority of your 1v1s you have to play it smart. Always position yourself to give yourself an advantage. Allow your opponent to make the first move. Try to start off the fight with a Gnasher shot as he/she is running at you, wallbounce to cover, get the active and try to hard aim if they are still a distance away. If you are winning a shotgun battle never get in to insta gib range. If you feel you are losing the fight retreat and find cover. The great thing about Gears of War 1v1s is that you have the opportunity to fall back, recoup, and restart.
