Hello fellow Gears, as many are aware of, there's been a huge controversy over the rifles in Gears 3. Many of you have seen me in these threads posting into the matter and have seen my opposition to the matter. Now I am not making this thread to bring up the argument and rehash the situation. I usually tend to hear both sides of the equation. I am here to propose a resolution to the matter on something that had dawn upon me since the Hardcore Playlist Weekend.
In my opinion Gears Of Wars 3 feels like a complete game in gameplay, but I do not feel it's gametypes are complete.
For the remainder of this post, I want you to envisioned that Gears 3 is Gears 1 Multi-player portion complete from launch. Gears 1 MP would be the alpha and Gears 2 MP would be the beta of the multi-player portion.
Along the way of this theoretical Gears MP beta testing we derived additional gametypes based on the original ones:
Which then we added:- KoTH
- Annex
- Guardian
- CTL
Then we consalidated them and made:- KoTH
- CTL
- TDM
Back in Gears 1 the most fun gametype to play was Execution. Execution allowed you to play sorta in the same tense adrenaline filled atmosphere that Counter-Strike became popular for and allowing players to finish off their kill with style.
Warzone on the other hand you didn't need to "Execute" in that mode type and was similar to the other shooters out on it's time.
A few of these beta players stumble upon gold in the word fun, the Gnasher. The reason being that Execution demanded the usage of the Gnasher since the rifles couldn't do execution no matter how cool you could be using the games following mechanics:
- Blindfire from cover
- Wallbouncing
The Gnasher was your safest (and still the safest) bet to guarantee your kill, and one of the few weapons in the game to allow to do em in a Mortal Kombat-esque manner.
When Annex was introduced into the Gears world, it was a way to let those hungry Warzone players with a reason to continue playing. These are the rifle beta players that went past the Execution mindset and pushed the Gears engine and franchise to it's limit. The ability to respawn continuously and racing everytime to your objective, made the "Execution" gametype experience more streamlined. Now everyone had the chance to be a rambo whether the game didn't warrant it or not. You could play freely but then came the problem with Annex. Due to the fact this was the only game type that allowed you to do this, these beta players (even on the PC) felt it was just better to forget about the rules in annex and just tally up kills.
Team Deathmatch is introduced completely destroying all purpose for the original grandfathered game types: Execution and Warzone.
As one can see this is why Gears Of Wars 3 is now a rifle dominant game, but it doesn't mean the Gnasher isn't there and it doesn't work. There's nothing "wrong" with the game or it's un-balanced. It's just the gametypes themselves need to be revamped and this is what I mean by the fix.
The New Execution
I would like to take the time to add this additional modification that I feel needs to be addressed concerning "executions", the whole concept of them in this game is a "gimmick". When I say gimmick is that they only serve their purpose in the mode execution, beyond that mode there's no need to execute them as they usually tend to get you kill. If EPIC could find a way to streamline the executions for a player that is down without losing total control of a player (ala Gears 2 Gnasher golf swing melee kill that you could still walk in animation) that would be amazing.
The basis of this fix I am proposing is on strictly this new Execution. The new execution will be exactly what Hardcore Weekend was, Gnasher and snub load-out only, the regular weapon spawns will be there, and there will be absolutely no rifles in this mode. If it need be, some of the weapon spawns could be ammo boxes.
The New Warzone
In this mode rifles will be allowed to headshot on active given certain scenarios for each rifle.
**When I say last bullet, I mean that the character's gear omen is almost filled up, the "last bullet" would be usually the one that downs, but on active has the capability to do what is suggested below**.
Hammerburst
Iron sights last bullet to the characters head.
No-scope last bullet to the characters head.
Blindfire last bullet to the characters head.
Lancer
*due to it's accuracy and steady stream, Lancer will not headshot on active while holding the LT.
Retro-Lancer
No-scope last bullet to characters head (burst fire).
Mulcher like gibs on blindfire (last bullet to the body).
Mulcher like gibs on hipfire (last bullet to the body).
Hipfire last bullet to the head, good luck with that
. Blindfire last bullet to the head, good luck with that
.
The snub in this mode will also get the ability to headshot like in Gears 1.
Please keep in mind that for all of these you must be active reloaded.
Gnasher in this mode is a pick-up weapon along side the DBS.
Team Death Match will remain virtually untouched. If anything, there can be a variant of Teamdeath Match that resembles the new Execution modetype.
CTL becomes Capture The Flag:
Would you like a true Capture the Flag gametype? (580+ supporters!)
KoTH will remain virtually untouched.
Why do I believe this is a good fix for everyone?
Rifle players have finally gotten what they wanted with Gears 3 but as any rifle player will tell you, we were Gnasher players first and foremost before we were rifle players. While we love our rifles, Rifles will never provide the same kind or rush or energy that our beloved Gnasher gave us. Giving out 2 seperate modes to fully satisfy both extremes will really help the addiction for those moments when you caught someone off guard in their dancing and pop their dome off. (Get the Unreal Tournament 99 / Gnasher Headshot frenzy treatment.)
Gnasher players will have a mode type exclusively to being hardcore Gnasher badasses.
