FIRST!
Whats up guys, I just wanted to post a quick guide/settings thread because im sure alot of people here don't know what a "scrimmage" is.
A scrimmage is a practice game between two competitive teams who are prepairing for a tournament, or are just trying to improve in general as a team. Depending on what league you are practicing for (Gamebattles, GoWnation, Hypefest, Local tournaments, ect) you may play on different settings/gametypes then normal ranked matches. This is one of the things that makes scrimmages better for practice then simply playing ranked, because you can set the game to whatever ruleset your league/tournament uses.
To get a basic idea on what some competitive settings are here are the settings for Hypefestation. This is the more commonly used settings throughout the competitive community, however there are more leagues that use different settings.
Hypefestation Settings:
Starting Weapons: Lancer/Gnasher
Execution:
Rounds to Win - 4
Round Time Limit - 5
Number of Bots - 0
Bleed-Out Time - 20
Friendly Fire - On
Weapon Respawn - After Pickup
Map Selection - Host Chooses
Maps: Checkout, Clock Tower, Drydock, Gridlock, Hotel, Mercy, Old Town, Thrashball, Trenches
Team Deathmatch:
Respawns Allotted - 15
Rounds to Win - 1
Number of Bots - 0
Bleed-Out Time - 20
Friendly Fire - On
Weapon Respawn - After Pickup
Map Selection - Host Chooses
Maps: Old Town, Trenches
King of the Hill:
Round Score Limit - 210
Rounds to Win - 1
Number of Bots - 0
Bleed-Out Time - 20
Friendly Fire - On
Weapon Respawn - After Pickup
Map Selection - Host Chooses
Maps: Drydock, Trenches
Keep in mind you are NOT limited to these. If you don't plan on competing in any hypefestation tournaments, you can use whatever settings you want when scrimming. But when posting for a scrimmage, its a good idea to post what settings you will be using to avoid confusion.
If you plan on posting for a scrimmage there are some things you need to include in your post. It doesn't need to be long, but the basic information you need to include is:
Settings used
Players per team (2v2, 3v3, 4v4, 5v5)
Your gamertag so they know who to invite
Specific gametypes (Execution only, Exe/KoTH only, All gametypes, ect)
Which team you want to host first
Scrimmage Terminology:
Scrim = Scrimmage
Full Cycle = Every gametype/map being played
aoi = Ask or Invite (A quicker way of determining who hosts. Invite means you want host, asking the other team for an invite means you want them to host)
L/G = Lancer/Gnasher settings
Exe = Execution
GB = Gamebattles
GN = GoW Nation
Hype = Hypefestation
Scrimmage Etiquette:
There are basic Scrimmage Etiquette's to follow. Obviously there is no penalty for not following them, but building a reputation as a team who has poor etiquette will make other teams not want to scrim with you.
Here is a really good video on Scrimmage Etiquette made by one of Gears of War's most known professionals ArCtyC http://reflectzyn.com/competitive-ga...titive-gaming/
Hopefully this helps those who are new to scrimmages. Thank you EPIC for putting the time into making these subforums. Hopefully this will catch on and people will come here for Scrimmages as well as the other websites. Love you EPIC <3
